Opened in 1883, the Brooklyn Bridge provides passage between Brooklyn and Manhattan for motorists, trains, bicycles and pedestrians. One of the primary symbols of New York City, it is a marvel of design and provides spectacular views of the city's skyline.

It's a lovely walk on the Brooklyn Bridge. There are markings on the floor so you know where to walk and not upset other walkers and cyclists. There are some little stalls on the New York City side where you can get magnets and key rings etc at really cheap prices. Be careful of people with animals. If you try to take a photo they will want money. It is free to cross this and such great views of the city and it is such a beautiful bridge.

This is definitely well worth walking across. The views across to Manhattan on a clear day are fabulous. Be warned though it is very popular and I can imagine in the peak season it could be very choked. Furthermore the pedestrian path is shared with cyclists. There is a solid white line to divide the two but with visitors stopping to take photos the pedestrian traffic invariably spills into the cycle lane much to the consternation of the cyclists. That said the walk and the views make the walk worth it. My advice it to start on the Brooklyn side at Pebble Beach - which is by the Main Street Park between Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges. This gives you great views of the bridge with Manhattan as the backdrop. There is the Time Out Market along the riverside walk towards the bridge if you want a bite to eat or a coffee. From there you need to head towards Washington Street to access the walkway. It is difficult to miss as there is a plethora of tourist trinket stalls as you approach and the ubiquitous tour groups. Once you have clambered up the steps enjoy the views. You will have to contend with the structure of the bridge getting in the way but I used the struts and other metal work to frame my pictures. Probably the best points for pictures are the two main towers of the bridge. It depends on what you want. There is also a metal worked pictorial representation of how the bridge was constructed. It can get quite windy so be warned. I enjoyed my walk and recommend it.

I decided to do something unique this New Year's Eve and went on a walking tour of Brooklyn Bridge sponsored by NYC Walks. Approaching the Bridge with the group and seeing the Bridge lit up, and walking towards the majestic arches was thrilling. Walking on the Bridge at night is a whole different experience than seeing it in the daylight. The views of the City at night with the sparkling lights of the buildings, the piers, the boats, and river below are spectacular. At midnight seeing the fireworks all over the City are amazing. And toasting the New Year with the champagne (and goodies) they give each on the tour adds to the delight of the evening (+ the noisemakers provided added to the fun!). Our tour started out earlier in the Broadway/Wall Street area. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable of the area, the City in general, and the Brooklyn Bridge. There were people in our group from Australia, France, England, Brooklyn, and from all the boroughs of our beloved New York City. The tour attracted families, two or three women or men, singles, and couples. Many of the buildings we passed early on the tour were beautifully lit up and there were Christmas trees, lights, and decor to delight. The New Year's Eve tour of Brooklyn Bridge given by New York City Walks was a most interesting and fun adventure and a great way to celebrate 2020!

Walking The Brooklyn Bridge is one of those ‘have you do things” in NYC. I was so lucky with the weather (18°C in January) and was there before midday on a Sunday. It was incredibly busy at that time with pedestrians, joggers, baby buggies / strollers, dog walkers and I can only imagine it got more packed as the afternoon wore on.
You should ensure to try to keep to the right when crossing to help with the flow of traffic, however, you will have to cross to the wrong side all the time to overtake slower walkers or the people standing in the middle taking selfies.
I am not sure of the actual distance but leave yourself plenty of time to cross over and back and bring a bottle of water.
There are small stalls of people selling hats, t-shirts, key rings etc, and if your budget is tight then this is the place to buy some souvenirs as they are cheap and plentiful on the Manhattan side.
You should take a bit of time when you cross over to Brooklyn as you can get great photos of the bridge and also there are some lovely shops and cobbles streets.
Enjoyable walk to Brooklyn.

During our recent stay in NY, we walked twice till the end of Brooklyn Bridge and back, as from the bridge you have an amazing view of the city skyline and if you avoid rush hours you may get the chance to feel partially lonely, especially towards the Brooklyn side, where most people don't even go to.
The bridge itself is really stunning, we enjoyed reading how and when it was built, imagining how many people walked on it over the many years and looking at the planes approaching their landings at JFK.
Overall a wonderful attraction and a good way to keep in shape.

Despite the cold January weather with the sun out wrapped up warm this is definitely worth a look. We took a walk over Brooklyn bridge. It’s totally safe with pedestrians completely separated from the traffic running underneath the footbridge path. There is no charge to cross the bridge. You can get some amazing views and pictures looking back towards the city of manhattan. Take in the sites of the Statue of Liberty, the tallest one world tower and the Empire State Building. It’s about 20 to 30 minutes to walk across but depends how often you stop for a photo opportunity. We took a stroll on the other side now in Brooklyn. Stoped for lunch, walked along the water front and visited Manhattan bridge too before strolling back across. On a clear day it’s worth a visit even if you don’t go all the way across to the other side.

Must cross the bridge at least once. It's only a little over a mile (1.1 miles or 1.8 kms). TIPS
1. Start in Brooklyn with thinner crowds--fewer tourists and vendors compared to the Manhattan side especially during the summer. Nearest subway station is High St. A or C train. Enjoy the view as you walk facing the Manhattan skyline. If you're tired when you get to the city, the 4/5/6 Brooklyn Bridge City Hall station is right at the foot of the bridge.
2. Best time to go is the morning as early as you can and before the temperature hits 90degrees in the summer. Sunrise on a clear day is gorgeous and relaxing. No crowds, only a few adorable couples taking photos and rarely that social media influencer with their photo/videographers and props that block the public path.
3. Sunset is also a good time but avoid holidays and summer weekends if you can. Spectacular views of the city skyline.
4. Narrow pedestrian path now safer with the bicycle lane moved to the lower level.

An overall great experience. The subway ride can be tricky because Penn station has many twists and turns, but by asking for directions we could finally arrive in Dumbo safe and sound.
The day was quite windy, yet we could appreciate the wonderful views of the city. Truly amazing!
It can get crowded at some points, especially because of selfie-taking, photo sessions, or just people stopping and standing by to appreciate the views.
There are also two lanes: one for walkers and one for bike-riders., but at first it is easy to forget which is the right lane to follow.
If you have the chance, don't miss this unique experience.

I recommend starting on the Brooklyn side of the bridge so that you end up on the SoHo side. It's a beautiful walk as the NYC skyline is to the right, the various bridges (Manhatten, etc.) can be seen, and the various building (Observatory, etc.). One of my top favorite things to do while in NYC is to walk this bridge. It does get crowded so early morning or early evening is the best time to visit.

One of the fun & free sightseeing in NYC, the view from the bridge is really beautiful and also after all the fatty food that this city have to offer it's nice to to a little walk to "burn" the fat. At the weekend it's a bit crowded but than you can earned a visit at Dumbo area at the Brooklyn side of the bridge. The metro is super close to the bridge on both sides (Manhattan & Brooklyn), on the Manhattan side it's worth to combine a visit on the bridge with wall street & world trade center area.
