Midhope Castle is believed to have been built in the mid-late 15th Century (earliest reference 1458) and today stands as a derelict castle on private land on the Hopetoun Estate near the village of Abercorn. Visitors can access the castle but there are a few restrictions and visitor guidelines due to it being located in a busy working area on the Estate. For more information on the castle please visit the website in this listing for full details.
Show more...£4.80 something each to walk round the house and get a quick photo. I was so glad I got to go here as I am a total superfan lol but my husband couldn't believe we got charged to take the photo of the outside of a house lol! You will spend 5 mins here!
When u walk back down towards the card park on your left hand side u will see a small woodland path and it takes you a walk through the woods to the beach where u can view blackness castle and the forth bridges from afar. Glad we went as we found this little gem of a walk..
Outlander of course!
Lallybroch
£6 per person to go and have a close look at the front only. Not inside or even round the back. Bit extortionate but the Outlander fans wont hesitate paying! We didn't. Lots of people coming for their photo opportunities. Poor people who live nearby with all these people coming!
You're watched by a guy sitting in his car. Security keep the place safe I guess. Everyone wants a piece of TV history.
Prices are adjusted due to filming tidying. Good to know the cast is still nearby.
The building is impressive true enough. So glad I came to see it for myself. I can imagine Jamie and Claire wandering about :0)
I only hope the money spent on entry goes towards helping to restore this building.
This is a must for an Outlander fan, Lallybroch. Considering it’s a derelict building it’s in pretty good condition on the outside. You are not allowed inside. You have to pay to visit, the guy on the gate is a lovely man and tells you were and what the scenes were filmed roundabout. If you wanted to stay in the area he has a B&Q at the end of the road which he said the programme has changed his and his families life which was nice. If you watch the series the woods you will recognise for scenes shot there.
Show more...If you are an Outlander fan, Midhope is a must. Walking up to the castle from the drive was surreal because it is identical (save some telephone wires) from what you see in the show. We were lucky enough to have the place all to ourselves for pictures and it was a perfect start to our Scotland vacation. It's true that the inside is not open to the public, but I wish a super fan would renovate it and turn it into a B&B! The woods surrounding the castle are beautiful as well. I would take a few minutes to head down to the stream just to the opposite side of the car park. Parking was a bit steep, but well worth it in my opinion. Beware that your kids (and probably your spouse) won't get it and will be nagging you to leave, but I absolutely loved it.
Show more...For outlander fans, this is a five star. Well worth the five dollars per person. It is true that all you can do is walk around the exterior. You can peek in the windows and see that it’s very dilapidated. The man at the gate ( I wish I could remember his name) talked with us for a long time and shared the history Of the property andstories of the Outlander filming here. Enjoyed my visit to Lallybroch!
Show more...Outlander fans will love seeing "Lallybroch". We got tix for early morning in April, so we got great photos before other people arrived. You cannot go inside (it's derelict), but the outside is fairly intact. Was definitely worth the admission price to me.
Show more...It was amazing to stand on the driveway of Lallybroch, we’re both huge fans so it was worth it for us. It’s only about 100’ from the car park and a good track on a gentle incline, perfectly accessible for anyone. The castle is a ruin and you can’t go inside but we still enjoyed our trip.
£10 for 2 tickets and parking, don’t follow the map link on the ticket, search google maps for midhope castle instead.
A must see for any self respecting Outlander fan. We even met 80’s Bree!! Great to see the iconic location in the flesh so to speak. The kiosk at the entrance sells “Lallybroch” keys for £2 so you can let yourself in whenever you like.
Show more...I visited Midhope Castle as part of the Outlander Tour from Edinburgh. I am a big fan of the show and was excited to see Lallybroch, home to the Fraser Clan.
It was pricey for what it was as it is literally just a ruin with only one small sign about how it was used in the show. Good to get the photos and say that I’ve been there but you only need 10 mins maximum.
There was portaloo available.

We visited on a fairly wet day and were a bit underwhelmed. Only takes 15 mins to see the outside and read the information. Felt it was a bit overpriced for what it is - interesting historic site but could be more like £2 per person since you don’t go in. However, would recommend a trip to South Queensferry afterwards, great cafes and gift shops.
