We have recently been to forest lodge for a 60th birthday meal and there was 30 of us and I would just like to thank all the staff for making it a lovely experience. The food was beautiful, it came out quickly and with no confusion. All the staff were very helpful and brilliant with our 2 toddlers. Thank you! We will definitely be back :)

Went to a wedding at Hazel Gap barn, just a 10 min drive away from the pub. Room was absolutely fine - nothing special but what you need. However, stay was ruined by the miserable woman who runs this place. The wedding started at 1pm and I asked politely if it was possible just to get changed in my room (didn't need it to be finished, just wanted to get changed there and drop my bag off) and although I think the staff behind the bar were willing to let me up, she came marching out and rudely told me I'd have to pay £20 to access it. Instead, she made me scrabble around in the disabled loo that didn't have a full length mirror. The loo hadn't even been flushed, so was quite dirty. I also had to leave my bags in the hall way of the pub (not in a secure area) so felt quite uncomfortable with that. What harm would it have been just to let me drop my bag? She gave the reason that it was because of cleaning but that doesn't make sense because if I paid £20 I could have immediately accessed my room, so it was obviously ready. The rest of the staff were lovely - so polite (especially the cleaners who I chatted to in the morning & the lady who served breakfast). The miserable landlady should take a leaf out of her staff's books and learn some customer service!

Very disappointed with the attitude and understanding of the management. They have a 48 hour cancellation policy which I fully understand. However, I live abroad and my flight to the UK was cancelled on the day I was due to check in. So I was obliged to cancel the room. I understand the hotel is a business and the £130 for a superior room would have been money lost to them. But their rigid approach to cancellation when it was totally beyond my control was very disappointing. I travel widely for work and stay in many hotels in the UK and Europe and have never encountered such a harsh enforcement of the cancellation policy. Totally within their rights of course and I have paid the cost of the room. But I would never ever dream of staying there in the future and will not recommend them if anyone asks about places to stay.

Just wanted to say a massive thank you to Bev and Sue for the way they looked after us at our Dad’s wake. We couldn’t have asked for anything more. Nothing was too much trouble and we were so well looked after, guided and cared for. They were both absolutely super. Thank you so much. Xx

We stayed here recently as a large family for a wedding. Never have I stayed in a hotel where the staff are so polite, friendly and helpful. Toning was too much trouble and they were outstanding to the wedding party who stayed with us. Bev was amazing we can’t thankyou enough. Keep up the good work guys

I have been coming here for a several years, not too regularly about 3-4 times per year for work. Here I am again and the facilities and service are second to none. If you read any negative reviews then they have to be from a competitor, and I am not being paid for this review and I am happy for you to contact me to verify. They have a new menu and OMG!!! you must try the Lebanese Shiah Tawook…. Audrey is just amazing and Ashley is a very lucky man. If you are visiting Mansfield (not sure why) or nearby, stay here, eat here or just come for a great beer, it’s well worth it. Exceptional.
