The island welcomes a new boat line connecting the picturesque town of Lixouri with the capital of Argostoli. Strategically positioned at the port of Lixouri, the main offices of Vikedios Damodos offer immediate access to any information or service a traveler might need. The modern, luxury and efficiently operated vessel makes transit a breeze and offer an enhanced passenger experience with its l
Show more...I used the 4:30 ferry today and was charged €21 for 2 foot passengers one way to Lixouri. Later I discovered the price was €3/passenger. Beware of this rip off by some crew members. Utterly disgusted when the honest people of the town are trying to attract tourism.
Show more...Regular transport from Argostoli-Lixouri every 30 mins. They were always on time, and it's a lovely scenic ride across the bay.
The staff are very hardworking and brilliant at getting all the vehicles on and off.
Foot passenger or by car, someone will come and take your fare, then give you 3 tickets from a perforated book. Then someone else comes following and takes 2 back again.. seems weird, just leave the stubs in the book and tally up at end instead of having little bits of paper potentially blowing around on the breezy deck?
We stayed at Lixouri for 2 weeks and on the only cloudy day during our 2 week stay we decided to get the ferry over to Argostoli. It is very cheap for foot passengers and it is a lovely experience. Great views, smooth crossing, really enjoyable. We saw a huge turtle swimming close by which was a bonus. The ferry runs every 20 to 30 minutes throughout the day until quite late.
Show more...Used the ferry to get to Lixouri from Agostoli and do not regret it, my wife had put enough finger imprints into the car door handles without another trip along cliff edges so the ferry was our best option. The cost was a paultry €6.80 for the 2 of us AND THE CAR. Why o why does it cost £140 to get to the Isle Wight from Portsmouth when a service like this would do? It was also very quick and efficient service with just enough time to take a selection of photos to put on the PC and never look at again. Do not expect a health and safety trip like Dover to Calais, the ramp is lowered before docking and if you were in the military try to avoid running off the ramp shouting Charge! The water is deep and the locals take offence. Excellent no frills facility.
Show more...Pleasant and punctual ferry. We took our hire car over and the total cost was €9 for the two of us and the vehicle. This is one way, NOT return. If traveling from Argostoli, simply follow signs/satnav for Lixouri ferry parking. If you are crossing as a pedestrian, simply park up (free) on the left hand side. If you are crossing in a vehicle, simply park in the marked lanes and wait to be called aboard by the crew members. First come, first served, but on both of our crossings, we were nowhere near full for cars and definitely not for foot passengers. You pay on board - cash only - and it's a bit disorganised. One guy gives you your tickets. Two minutes later someone else asks to see your tickets and five minutes after that someone else rips them up and gives you half back!
The toilets weren't bad to be fair. The views are wonderful. Crossing takes about 20 mins.
Don't hang about as you approach the port if you are in a car - the turnaround is really quick and you're expected to be sat in your car, engine running, as soon as you dock.
Save yourself an hour plus of windy mountain roads, take the ferry across to Lixouri for 3Euros. You will feel like you are on holiday straight away, the sights are stunning and the trip only takes 15/20 mins. The car ferry was a time saver for us, we would have had to leave our villa so much earlier to get to the airport, this way we had an extra half a day to enjoy.

Sit on the top deck for great views, or sit inside, in air conditioned comfort for the 15 -20 minute crossing. The choice is yours.
All for under 7 euros, for a car and 2 people.
A very pleasant 20 minute trip. Low cost and hastle-free to board either with a car or as a foot passenger. Comfortable air-cinditiined lounge, efficient, reliable service.
Show more...Mini "cruise" to Agristoli - worth it for a change of scenery and a chance to see the turtles.
Runs every 20-/30 minutes. Buy your tickets on board - even with contactless payments!

The ferry was OK to use, if somewhat frenetic during loading/ unloading.

Lixouri is not worth visiting, it is small, grubby and nowhere near as pleasant as Argostoli. There is absolutely nothing to do there, pllus a lack of facilities or even an acceptable taverna.
