North Yorkshire Off Road Centre

My son was bought the Young Driver Experience as a birthday present after waiting patiently to turn 11 and be old enough. We originally booked for May but covid had other plans! Colin was excellent throughout at communicating how rebooking etc would work once the restrictions were lifted and we eventually got to visit in July.
It was definitely worth the wait, my son had an amazing time and Colin was friendly, calm and patient throughout the drive. All covid measures were in place and we felt very comfortable.
As passengers myself and husband were able to enjoy the experience with him and its something we will never forget. I would definitely recommend this for any young adventure enthusiast and my husband is already looking at when he can book one of the experiences for himself! Thanks Colin for a great day!

I had an amazing afternoon driving the new Defender with Colin. As is customary when I visit North Yorkshire, the weather was torrential rain and we had a lot of fun sliding about the most picturesque of courses overlooking Robin Hoods Bay. The new Defender is fantastic, Colin know the controls inside out and his tuition was first class. Not only did we tackle some difficult terrain, he also made links to my own Range Rover and how to get the best out of the various settings which at first seem overwhelming. The downside, I enjoyed it so much that I'll be parting money reguarly for future sessions. Highly Recommended.

Fabulous experience for beginners and experienced alike. I myself work closely with Landrover and have been lucky enough to drive at Eastnor Castle - the home of JLR official offroad capability validation. Colin was extremely knowledgable and accommodating and reminded me of many essential skills and techniques I'd forgotten. My children however (7 & 10Y) had never driven any vehicle before and were far better listeners than me. They both still talk about it 2 weeks on and when asked by friends and family keep telling all that it was the highlight of their holiday. I am now under serious pressure to change my car!

I spent a day with Colin on his Tuition and Tour experience, and loved every moment of it. It was a great opportunity to experience what a Defender is really capable of.
Colin provided detailed and comprehensive instructions both on the off road course and whilst driving on the Moors. At no point did I feel unsafe, or out of my comfort zone.
Our day took place during the second wave of the Covid pandemic, but Colin had taken every precaution possible and none of the measures detracted from the experience.

The day was the highlight of my holiday, and if you are looking for any sort of off road driving tasters or tuition then I cannot recommend Colin highly enough. I hope to return again the next time that I'm in the area.

My brother and I had a great day out doing the off road experience as a birthday present. Neither of us had driven off road before so the time taken to learn how the controls differ and practising on a whole range of hills was very useful. We also enjoyed making it competitive and seeing who managed to get the hills right first time. I can thoroughly recommend this as a day out for anyone with an interest in driving, and the experience you have can be tailored based on whether you're completely new to driving, off-road driving or own your own Land Rover! Not to mention the outstanding views of the Moors and Robin Hood's Bay.

My wife purchased a voucher as a Xmas present and I planned to go late April/early May but due the the Covid situation this was delayed until late Sept and it was well worth the wait, Colin regularly updated us re the situation. I had a great afternoon in the 110, Colin is great, a friendly and very knowledgeable instructor. I would recommend this experience to anyone who wants a very enjoyable experience and to 4x4 drivers who wish to have a better understanding of how to tackle some demanding terrain. I have been on several 4x4 experience and this is the best

What a day! What a setting! The new defender with it's chunky BF Goodrich tires, and Colin the instructor sat beside you, you feel like you can put the vehicle anywhere.
He makes you feel right at home, you feel safe, with very clear instructions, which inspires confidence.

Would I recommend this experience? In heartbeat yes!

Could it be improved? For me, the only thing that it's lacking is a Unimog, other than that, you'll have to go a long way to beat what Colin offers. The new Defender is definitely a very capable 4x4 vehicle, and I would recommend the old school people frightened of the electronic era to give it a try, I think you'd like it.

Booked to have another drive in the new defender to learn more about this vehicle and it’s electronic assistance systems. The off road centre was wet due to rain but fully using the trucks systems was able to drive around the trails with no problems. Was able to use the new defender to slowly climb up very steep slopes ( up to 33 degree ) staying in control of the vehicle with little wheel spin or bumping around in the traditional vehicle way as fast as possible. The on board cameras different views also aided the driving experience. Will need steeper trails next time I visit for the more modern vehicles ?.

Just experienced the full day ( off road course in the morning and greenlaning in the afternoon ) package in the new defender with Colin . If you have just ,or about to purchase one, I would highly recommend this course because you will learn far more about its capabilities than a few hours reading the manual including whats not in there.! After a brief control demo you are the driver all day (brave fella - no dual controls ! ) He is a real enthusiast and a professional with no nonsense, informative and precise instructions . The vehicle gets a full workout, trust me, and the achievement , satisfaction and knowledge ( even if you are not a regular offroader ) that you gain at the end makes the day very satisfying and well worth it .

Wow what a brilliant way to spend half a day, with Robin Hoods Bay as the backdrop, wild horses roaming the course all goes towards the drama of this off roading experience. Colin’s instruction and attention to detail on how the Defender WILL get us over, across, up and through the many natural obstacles that the course has is second to none. We learnt so much, it was a confidence building and thrilling experience. I don’t mind admitting there were times I didn’t feel I could go through some of the stuff but listening to Colin and doing exactly what he says does show you what you and the Defender can achieve. Writing about it doesn’t do it justice. I’d say Just do it. You won’t regret it, you’ll love it.
