One of the most beautiful & charming forestry area in Ireland! It is a literal fairy forest with it`s magical atmosphere. Situated near to a amiable little river, the Fairy Glen, at the feet of the famous and now UNESCO Heritage site, the Mourne Mountains and right beside the sea, the Carlingford Lough. It is absolutely wonderful area which offers so much, activities such as hiking, camping, walking, swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding, picnic, mountain biking - now there are new, popular Downhill mountain biking trails as well. The town, Rostrevor lays at the center of this meeting point of the mountains, forest and sea. The settlement is quite & tranquil with plenty of quality restaurant and pubs.
Highly recommended destination if you visit Northern Ireland.
Dont know whether I was unlucky or if what happened to me happens on a regular basis. I dont normally write reviews but being a mother of young children felt I needed to let other parents know what happened us. On arriving to the campsite it was perfect good park and good facilites. Reception staff very friendly and helpful. I was with my Husband and 2 children age 2 and 4. It was around 3am I was woken by the sound of 2 young men shouting, they started to kick some tents and then started to say lets go into the tents and shag anyone who is in them. At this stage I was totally panicking a few people then got out of there tents and told them security was on there way. They were also stealing any bottles of drink lying about. Security eventually came but they had gone at this stage. They had came up from the town through the fields at the back. Told reception next morning but they said nothing had been logged in the security book which I find amazing considering how scary these guys had been. These guys were local and I dont know if this happens on a regular basis or if we were just unlucky. It was my first experience away camping and it will be my last as I felt so vunerable when they were running around. It is so sad because it is a lovely place and caters for families and i know you can get this anywhere but I was shocked that security didnt take it a bit more seriously.
Show more...I have been going to Kilbroney camping for as long as I remember and if you love nature and scenery this is the place! Toilets and showers kept very clean and nearly all the tent pitches are close to the toilets. Fantastic cafe on site and also laundry room. Have always found the staff and security very friendly and brilliant park for the kids. Atomsphere at night is really fun as you get people from everywhere here. Last time we went some Southern Irish men were playing fiddles etc..! Am really sorry that the lady reviewer had a bad experience as I have been coming to Kilbroney 20+years now and not one incident like this, but like she says this can happen anywhere. All in all I would definately recommend to anyone.
Show more...i have used kilbroney park on many ocassions , mainly for daily excercise and pleasure trips for my 3 year old daughter to the swings in the play park. i live in the rostrevor area and am aware what goes on a daily basis .At the moment the park is over run with dog walkers ,some of these dog walkers have up to 4 dogs with them, these dogs are never on leads, small children are being terrorised by these mutts, not only th at these animals are constantly allowed to deficate freely were ever they want , i have remonstrated with owners of these pets on several occassions, about there behaviour . the staff of kilbroney park could not care less, having reported this behaviour on numerous occassions to the office in the park , next there is no one enforcing dogs must be kept on a lead at all times policy of park.
Show more...We had booked to stay again in kilbroney in Aug 2015 for 3 days however the night before we were ment to leave I broke my foot.
The next day we rang to ask for a refund or a different date and they refused stating you have to give us 7days notice in writing I replied with how can you plan to break you foot 7 days in advance I was an accident there reply to this was repeating several times (that's are policy sorry )
This park will not give a penny back regardless of what you say even in a genuine accident..
Sorry to say now that they have lost us as campers altogether and we will be searching out a new area to stay losing them money from this family 3-4 times a year be aware folks very poor people skills so disappointed now
Regards the man with the broken foot 2/8/15
We recently stayed one night in Kilbroney caravan park in our motorhome and that was enough, the site alocated to us was so sloped we couldn't level the van even with ramps, we then asked the staff if we could move to one of the free level sites but were told no they are all booked, we also phoned a booking before arriving. Well the slope was so bad my sister in law fell out of bed, I couldn't stand up in our van and in all the time we were there I watched 2 level sites sitting vacant. The toilets smelled bad I was glad we had our own. There wasn't that much to do there either a big green park that's all. Avoid if possible.
Show more...Avoid if you want a camping experience with good facilities and friendly staff. Should've known better really as it was too reasonably priced.. No camp control or security. Albeit we don't have children, however the children are everywhere with absolutely no respect for anything or anyone's property and the parents don't care at all, apart from where their next vodka is coming from. On a positive note, if you stay away from the campsite all day to avoid the dross and explore the stunning surroundings, it truly is spectacular. Pity about the clientele.
I am very liberal minded however, after my patience wore thin trying to explain that children's bikes being scraped along my car was unacceptable and being told to ****off, we decided to leave.
Maybe we just arrived at an inappropriate time. If you can switch off to the dross and enjoy the surroundings then I would give this site a 2star..
Kilbroney campsite has great potential. The setting is stunning and spacious and I really couldn't find fault with the facilities etc. The place is completely let down by the staff who were unpleasant and authoritarian. If you enjoy staying up after 11pm when you go camping you might want to try another site.
Show more...Stayed at Kilbroney Park in Aug 2010. We were kept awake to the small hours of the morning by one party having a heavy drinking session with much loud singing. Although there was security on site they didn't take action to stop it at the time and the revellers were not evicted the next day despite complaints from us and others.
Before you stay, I would recommend you visit the site and see for yourself how unclean the toilet block is and how poorly maintained - tiles missing. The sluice area was horrendous and looked as if it hadn't been cleaned in weeks. Our drain blocked the first day another reflection of poor maintenance. Litter, weeds poorly cut grass are all noticeable. The surounding environs are beautiful and the childrens play area is very good.
