esea contemporary is the UK’s only non-profit art centre specialising in presenting and platforming artists and art practices that identify with and are informed by East and Southeast Asian (ESEA) cultural backgrounds. esea contemporary is situated in an award-winning building in the heart of Manchester, home to one of the largest East Asian populations in the UK. Since its inauguration as a community-oriented visual arts festival in 1986, esea contemporary – previously named Centre for Chinese Contemporary Art (CFCCA) – has continuously evolved to establish itself as a dynamic and engaging space for cross-cultural exchanges in the British art scene, as well as in a global context. esea contemporary is located in the heart of Manchester’s Northern Quarter. Admission is free to all.
Show more...Love this place. Conveniently located in the Northern Quarter, so you can easily just pop in while you're out and about.
The staff were all really nice, and I loved the exhibits. You get to see art that you don't usually get to see anywhere else, and it's a nice, chill space.
This was a lovely little visit whilst in the NQ, enjoying an acid trip with the kids. The exhibitions were very colourful and the staff were very helpful when I got stuck in the toilets thinking that I'd found a secret exhibition area.
Show more...This place is bit of a hidden gem, located in the heart of the Northern Quarter. Really well curated gallery with a good variety of artwork. Always something new to see when I pop in on my lunch break every couple of months. Great gift shop as well!
Show more...Well worth a visit, good location. Varied exhibitions that are informative and fun. Staff are helpful and friendly.
Show more...I was doing shopping in Arndale Centre and this museum is literally behind it. The exhibition - 'Aquatopia' is so inspiring and made me think about the way I use water and how can I make a change. They focus on the theme with great details and information. The shop is great too, with lovely prints from artists. The size of the museum is actually perfect, I spent like 30 minutes there. A place worth checking out when you are in Manchester!
Show more...I visited the museum with my husband and it was brilliant - so interesting and very different to anywhere we had visited before. Would highly recommend!
Show more...I particularly like this. On a visit to the Northern Quarter we took the opportunity to visit as it often has highly-accomplished, reflective exhibitions. In one room was Joanne Harris' musical account of every officially-recorded nuclear explosion, with some two and three dimensional visual pieces in silk, silverpoint, bleach and light. In the other were Taiwanese artist Yin Ju Chen's mesmerising reflections on our perceptions of the solar system. The gallery also has a photographic display in the corridor showing its remarkable growth from a little shop window in a rundown environment to the solid and established centre it is today.
Show more...What a fantastic success of the rebranding of one of Manchester's most established centres devoted to Chinese culture and arts representing artists from mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and artists of the diaspora. Has to be one of the best art spaces in the city.
Show more...Interesting exhibitions, in a beautiful gallery space. Perhaps not on everyones radar but always worth a look given that entry is free.

It was a really interesting museum however the number of exhibitions was very limited. Quite a small museum although the exhibitions themselves where very interesting. Definitely worth a visit!
