Do you like BIG airplanes? History? Then this is the place for you. Large outside airfield with retired airplanes of all types. From military transport C141 to medical transport. Due to Covid can only actually go onto the C141 but you can see the inside and it is truly amazing how many men and cargo could be carried in this. Museum is usually open Wednesday - Sunday 9 - 4 and there is no admission fee. Best to call just to be sure they are open. Great place for family.

I'm a bit of a flight and aviation nerd; although mind you that doesn't mean I know a lot, I'm just interested. This collection of wartime cargo planes and historical memorabilia is simply top notch. I was able to be there on the day where they reopened the displays in the hangar which really added a lot to my experience. Oh and yes, it's on the active base so if you hang out for more than 20 minutes during a training day, or at least while I was there, you'll likely see takeoffs and landings, as well as other training exercises of C-17s and C-5s. Overall an awesome experience.

We stopped by the museum today. Our tour guide Mel was very knowledgeable about the various aircrafts at the museum. He was very passionate about the history of them and shared with us many details about each one. Our favorite was the C5 Galaxy, and Mel spent over 30 minutes showing us the inside and outside of the plane, which was so interesting to learn the history of where we we were standing, which dated back to the 70s. Highly recommend stopping by the museum and taking a guided tour. Fantastic!

We are from out of state visiting for our child’s sports tournament. We had some extra time left on the start of our day and decided to check out this museum. We stumbled into a volunteer tour guide, Mr. Bill Rogers, who took us on a great history tour of these awesome birds! So much rich American aviation history at this museum and highly recommend this museum to all passing through.
Thank you to the kind and very knowledgeable volunteers who continue passing on the history of all that’s on display.

Out of 5 Stars, I rate this at least 7 or 8 Stars!!! The staff here was easily the best we have seen at any museum. The fact that we had a personal tour guide was Unbelievable in itself. Our tour guide was Nick S and was literally a “Walking Encyclopedia”. His style of presentation was excellent as he had stories and details to share about each of the planes and exhibits. He made the tour so exceptional that even a non-airplane enthusiast would enjoy it. Nick related to our group just like we were long-time friends. Seeing these big birds was a thrill as well as learning the history of the AMC in general. The other staff members there were equally passionate about this wonderful display of aircraft. I very highly recommend that you take the time to plan a visit to this museum. Would go again just to learn more and get more perspective on these magnificent planes. The only negative about the entire visit was that they would not let me fly any of the planes. Of course, I am joking about that…. Seriously, make some time and pay them a visit!

We visited the Air Mobility Museum on March 22, 2023 with a group of 24 students and 10 adults that are part of a homeschool group. They split us into groups of 10-12 and each group had their own guide. Our guide spent two hours with our group touring the musem and five of the planes. The stories these guides, who I believe are all veterans, tell about working on these planes are awesome! This was our second field trip to the Air Mobility museum and it is such an amazing place! They have free parking and admission is free! Definetely leave a donation to keep supporting this great museum!

We decided to make an impromptu visit on our way home from Dewey beach! I highly recommend the open cockpit days, the third Saturday of each month. They start in the spring and into October! It was so cool getting to walk through the planes and they had several retired air force and military personnel to explain the air craft. Plan on several hours, the yard with the retired planes took us a good hour and there are the inside exhibits and a 9-11 memorial we didn't have time to check out.

I am a veteran with 41 years' service in the military & this place brought back so many memories. Many of the airplanes here I had flown on. 2 planes were special to me. One was a B17 bomber. During WW II my dad was an MP at Wheeler Field Hawaii & one of his jobs was to remove the Norden bombsites when this plane came in & install them just before they flew out. The plaque by the plane said it's nickname was the "gooniebird". I remember him talking about the gooniebirds all the time. The other plane was a C47 transport that dropped paratroopers during 3 combat missions in WWII. One mission was a D-Day drop of the Army's 82nd Airborne Division. A tour guide let one on the plane & I was able to walk from the drop door to the pilot's seat holding the static line. It was special to stand where some of our nation's greatest hero's were. The museum is free & located on Dover Air Force Base. You do not have to have a DOD ID or visitor pass to visit.

Very well run quality museum! We asked for and got a volunteer guide who enabled us to go inside several aircraft. He tailored our tour perfectly, we had children with us, and kept it interesting and fun. The displays inside, and the planes outside are very cool. This is a free museum but after going, and appreciating the work and knowledge of the volunteers, I'd recommend giving a donation, there's a jar by the museum shop. Oh, by the way, they have real and unique (made in) Hawaiian shirts for sale there.

Good idea to stop at this museum. Our guide was terrific, and we highly recommend having one to really get the most out of the exhibits. The flight simulator was fun. It was raining so we could not go into the planes outdoors. But we got to go into a plane kept inside. Admission is free, but a donation can be made.
