The most famous course in the area has hosted the British Open 3 times in the last 30 years.
Show more...I have always held this course in the highest regard.I remember the year that Paul McGinley was knocking on the door of winning the Open Championship here,so near and yet so far! What a course, without doubt in my top ten within GB and Ireland.Sadly it reminds me of some courses,Muirfield,Wentworth,Old Head of Kinsale,Malone Golf club,to name but a few, close the door behind you on the way out if you manage to get in.I take my hat off to Sunningdale Golf Club who embrace the true spirit of golf, making you aware of the difficulties of the course but still show you a truly engaging and memorable visit to Berkshire!
Show more...After looking forward to playing this prestigious course, we were soon feeling like they did not want us there. The man at the reception informed us we could not go into the clubhouse as we all had shorts on (not mentioned on confirmation letter). We asked if we could get a drink and a sandwich and although we could we had to wait in reception like kids who werent allowed inside. When it was brought down the abrupt waitress said none have sugar or sauce put it down and walked off. Zero customer service skills there. It got the day off to a poor start. Luckily it got better the guy in the pro shop was welcoming and helpful as was the lovely lady at the half way house. The course was stunning and a challenge. We would of liked to of stayed for a drink and soak in the historic setting but this was taken from us due to the stuck in the past Club rules. All 3 of us had smart golf gear on but it was not good enough for the dinosaurs of this establishment. Would we go back? no. Paid a lot of money and were let down by the welcome and unadvertised standards. I would advise Hillside, Birkdale and Formby over RLSA.
From the moment you arrive to the moment you leave all staff treat you like a full member and very special visitor to a wonderful experience of service and golf course. Would highly recommend. Stayed in Dormie House , had dinner and breakfast. Even managed a game of snooker with my son. Played a fantastic golf course true links in excellent condition with some wind adding to the experience. Round in 3 hours 45 minutes, no issues about slow play. Spoke with a number of members who were very friendly and gave great advice about how to play their course which they were very proud to discuss with us. This was a 3 day trip playing Royal Birkdale, Formby and then Royal Lytham which was the highlight of the trip. Thank you.
Show more...This was the final one of the three Royal courses in the North West Ea gland. Would I rush back no. Had to park on the street, good COVID precautions in place. Course is in good nick but is missing something. Starting with a par three which is nothing special but some good holes later on. The final hole is great. Was there as a golf day and 47 points won it betterball 90%.
Would I go back and pay the prices no but I would go Royal Liverpool , Royal Birkdale but if you want real value for money go to a Royal st Davids or Silloth.
Couldn’t fault the course but playing behind two four balls (America’s 🙄) with caddies was a bit slow.. didn’t realise that you don’t get a starter pack on the first tee.. like at, Kingsbarns, Royal Troon, Turnberry and recently Dumbarnie.. as for Covid restrictions, where? 🤷🏼♂️ no one seemed bothered, very lackadaisical
Show more...Huge thanks to the team at Royal Lytham
for a wonderful experience. From the superb bookings team, to the incredible food and service to one of the best tracks in the world in superb condition we had a wonderful trip. I’ve played here with family and with friends over the past 12 months and we think it is one of the best golf experiences in the world. I haven’t been fortunate enough to stay in the Dormy House yet, however I’ve heard it’s amazing, like the rest of the experience. If you are visiting do allow some time to take in the incredible clubhouse which is steeped in Golf History - it’s amazing. We found the members very welcoming and friendly. Special mention to Lauren, Elaine and Janet for all their help.
I stayed in the dormy house and played the course twice with seven other friends and we loved it. The dormy house is stunning. So comfortable. Tony was excellent. Very knowledgeable and shared a lot of stories and took and interest in us. All staff were really friendly and the food was excellent. Golf course brilliant and is one of the best I have played but there are some waste land areas in the right that are untidy. It should be back on the open circuit
Show more...We played two rounds staying in the Dormy House overnight with DB&B. This is a wonderful course and a true Championship links. The bunkers are severe and sideways or backward shots are often the only alternative to escape the hazard. The course was in excellent condition and there is a huge practice area with short game facilities. Whilst our stay was interrupted by a power cut, this did not detract from what was an excellent visit to the Club. The staff are very friendly and efficient and the food is excellent. The Dormy House bedrooms now have en suite facilities - a great improvement.
Show more...What a great course! Caddies were very friendly as well as the women at the turn, the rest of the staff seemed a little more lukewarm with visitors but the course is a must play. Big driving range a short walk past the 18th green. Starts with a par three which is a little unusual but a nice warm up. Has some spectacular holes but a lot of bunkers. Caddie said 206. Didn’t find any on the front but said it at the turn and was hit hard on the back. Didn’t spend much time in clubhouse because I had to leave but it was gorgeous. A must play.

Show more...It was unfortunately ruined by what I can only say is all the things about golf I hate
Turn up hour twenty before our tee time to get a cup of tea and maybe a sandwich only to to be told no golf shorts in club house
I asked the steward to show me where it said this on the web site or on the emails and correspondence sent and received when trying to book but he just said not his problem.
Now I have no issues with dress codes but on a hot day at the end of August surely it would worth putting on an email or the web site that golf shorts are not permitted into the bar or the club house
We paid a lot of money to play and we all said it ruined our day not being able to soak up the history of the place after our round.
The one shining star was the lady at the halfway house who smiled and laughed and made all 3 of us laugh (sausage roll Is a must ! )
