We specifically wanted to see the Mevlana or Whirling Dervishes so we travelled to Konya for a night from Alanya. It is an amazing experience ❤️ The music is old turkish music from centuries ago & it's mesmerising to watch the Mevlana. It was so worth the time & effort to go. We went to the show on Saturday evening at 7pm it was only 30TL each which isn't even €2! Everyone in Konya was helpful & friendly I never worse a head scarf but dressed respectfully as suits this shrine. Go & enjoy it does your soul good 💖
Show more...Beautiful visit to the museum, I highly recommend a guide as there is lots of history to be told. It is not a very long tour, approximately 45min with a guide and I would think 15-20 min without a guide. You are allowed photos but have to use shoe covers which is provided and although it is a museum the security prefer that women cover shoulders and legs, they do provide cloaks as well.
Show more...I enjoyed visiting Mevlana's tomb and the museum. It took us about two hours. Except, when nature called, we had to look for restrooms. It was discusting and very dirty, it smelled pis. Konya's city hall managment could spent more money and time to preserve Mevlana museum than spending more money building giant building in the center part of Konya.

Show more...Jalāl al-Dīn Muḥammad Rūmī, also know as just Rumi or Mevlana, was born in 1207, out of Persian speaking parents in Balkh, nowadays a part of Afghanistan but back then it was a part of the Persian Empire. He was and is known as a great poet, Islamic scholar, Sufi mystic, philosopher and founder of the whirling dervishes. His works were translated worldwide, in more than 25 languages, and his tomb became almost a pilgrimage place. At the time of our visit the museum was very crowded both with locals and tourists from all over the world. The area around the tomb is superbly decorated, there are a few other tombs in the museum, as well as nice collection of manuscript Korans and other religious writings.

There is a big square with a Cami (which is also beautiful). There really isnt much to the Museum but worth the trip. You go into the actual musuem and see many ancient writing and manuscripts. As you enter the main part, there are lots of tombs of Rumi's followers. Were Rumi is actually laid to rest is quite beautiful. Mosaic tile line the floor to ceiling in bright beautiful colors. You will see people what looks like in prayer. There are some of his books, some beautiful Koran's on display and then you are done. It probably took us 20 minutes.
It is a major attraction so you will have vendors and small kids asking for money/food but nothing real aggressive
When somewhere some countries assemble smart city, we usually understand that city will have smart gadgets around, and many other smart infrastructures oriented to to preserve or maintain nature. But after visiting this beautiful place, my concept of a smart city changed. as in this place lived and worked a wise man, whose advice will do everything for the sake of maintaining the nature of both man and the world
Show more...Interesting museum complex. Better with a guide to talk you through. Take a,scarf to cover head when entering the tomb. Also dress modestly to be respectful.
Later that night (Thursday ) returned to watch a free Whirling Dervish performance. Interesting.

I didn't know much of anything about Mevlana before visiting Konya, and I can't say as I know much more now after visiting, but the mausoleum is a fabulous, unusual building. Haven't seen such a large, green structure like this elsewhere. Inside, it was very interesting to see the devotees in almost cult-like manner visiting the mausoleum.
