The tour costs 9€ and lasts 45 minutes. It is a nice way of discovering the main attractions of Avignon, especially if you are tired of walking. You get headphones with useful information (10 languages available) about the main buildings, but I'd have liked more historical context.
You could obviously walk instead of taking the Petit Train, but if you're tired of walking and reading the info on the city guide, then you should take it.

This gave us a great intro to the town.
On the advice of the tourist office, we went for the very first train at 10.30 and were glad we did as it was half empty, so 2 of us shared a bench for 4. Whenever we saw the train later in the day, it was packed out, so there’s a tip for you.
The headset commentary was offered in a dozen or so languages and was very clear and informative, with just the right amount of detail, not talking all the time.
10€ for 45 minutes was a bargain.
The driver was very skilful, taking us round all the sights so we could decide which to visit later, like the Jardin des Doms, and which to not bother with, like half a bridge.
In and out of the narrow streets, we saw many fascinating places we’d never have discovered on our own.
We also noted the hordes going in the next door Popes’ Place, so gave that a miss too.
Let the train take the strain!

So, it's our first day in Avignon, having walked up the main drag to the Palais des Papes. We saw this Petit Train. It was about to leave so we were ready for a seat anyway. 9.50 euros each, 45 minute ride, this train was about one third full. It was a great way to get a good idea of Avignon and the things we may want to go back and see at leisure. Each seat gets headphones and a choice of ten languages for the commentary. The driver slows right down when there is a good view of something interesting. In fact, he slows right down while navigating some of the medieval very narrow cobblestone streets and the tight corners. Another coat of paint and he ain't gonna make it. We enjoyed the ride and can certainly recommend it.

9 August 2020 after many months of covid lockdown, we queued for 20mins for the train. On boarding we were told to sit with strangers in the tiny carriage. When we queried social distancing we were told they do not operate social distancing. We walked away. Previously we were in Marseille where we took a similar ride and social distancing was required. Stay safe and stay away.

It was a fun ride . . .until we got a heavy storm [this is NOT the Petite Train company's fault, of course]
The train has a clear plexiglass roof so you can see better, and in the storm, we could hear and see the heil pounding the roof. Because the Petite Train is open on the sides, the rain poured and drenched those seated at the ends. We tried to use umbrellas, but we still got drenched. Funny thing: the train kept going along with the pre-recorded audio narration while we screamed. I think they offered rain checks, but we were departing Avignon the next day. I took a video. Hopefully, I will be able to upload it. We will never forget this FUN ride ♥️

You know, these "hop on, hop off" tours generally drive me crazy but I have to say this one delivered. Train is much better than the bus as it can get itself into some ridiculously narrow streets. Hits all of the highlights, and the audio commentary is quite well done. It's even audible because each rider is given his or her own headset with a choice of something like 12 languages. It would be time-consuming and exhausting to walk the route covered by the train so this is an efficient way to see the town if time is tight.

It's a very nice trip, allowing you to discover the city. Very useful comments, and happy to have a "child version" for comments in FR. Going on very narrow streets, seeing the landmarks, 45 min pass so quickly

Many French town have one and it's always advisable to go in my experience - you learn varying amounts (on this one, there's an audio tour)

This tour was great. It's a round trip (45 min) and I got the impression that you got to see everything you might want to see. Busy but just join the queue and bank on getting the next one. They seem to allow drinks on board, so make sure you have one, especially in the warm summer months!

Silly and short but fun. I’m not sure it’s a good way to get a lay of the city which is pretty darn small. I found it good as a way to take a break. Time it right otherwise you may have a long wait. Recommend sitting on the right

Fine train tour around Avignon. A convenient way to come around and see this beautiful old city. On a very hot and busy the the presale of tickets could have been organized better.
