Buckroe Beach and Park

The beach does not have a lot of people and the wave are very small which does not not small children down. We had never been to this beach before and did not know that jelly fish were in the water. Our three and eight year old grandchildren along with my husband got stung. The beach closes at dusk and you have to leave the area. We never got to see the sunrise or sunset across the ocean during our vacation this year. The beach needs to have some type of signs out about the jellyfish before you get on the beach and into the water. I never thought to look at the life guard and see the little purple flag up.

This is the first time my family visited Buckroe beach. We visited on a Sunday and was July 5th so the holiday weekend. There were parking spots available and if you don’t mind walking there were some open spots in the beach. Fortunately it wasn’t overly crowded like some beaches I’d been too. It wasn’t the nicest beach I’ve been too but was fun for a day in the water.

We love Buckroe Beach. We love 20 minutes away and spend our summers at this beach! Waves are good for a beach experience but not rough. Great for families. Parking is pretty easy even when it appears packed. This beach is one of the most underrated beaches on the east coast. Boardwalk is ADA accessible and friendly for biking and walking. Pier is adjacent to beach and historic lighthouse is so fun for pictures. Bathrooms and playground available.

We were visiting Norfolk for Thanksgiving, and I was undecided whether to take an Airbnb near Buckroe, or one closer to VA beach. We ended up at the other, so I wanted to make a special stop here to see the area. I'm so glad we didn't pick the one near Buckroe because the beach was closed! They had snow fencing up and wouldn't allow anyone on the sand. We were able to go out on the pier, but that was it. I would have been so, so disappointed if we had booked that location because beach walking is our major love and we would not have been able to do anything! We did drive down the road that runs parallel to the beach and it wasn't until the very end did the snow fencing end and we found a parking spot that allowed us on the public beach in that area. We did a little walking down there, as well as some shell collecting, so it wasn't all bad, but we were really sad that we couldn't go on the main beach. Oh well - maybe some other visit!

It's never bad to see the ocean. This area is definitely in need of some love and attention though.
If you just want to enjoy a stroll, this meets that need. Doubt anyone goes to Buckroe for the ultimate beach experience. You go because it's a quick access and your choices are limited.

Staying in Williamsburg and wanted a beach closer than actual Virginia Beach. This is a beautiful, clean, well maintained park and beach. The waves are a lot smaller Virginia Beach. I was appreciative of this. I would recommend for families also, there is a beautiful playground area too. Nice clean restrooms and changing area

I wish I had discovered this beach years ago! It has the feel of the ocean without waves to knock you over. It is clean beach, great boardwalk, clean restrooms, and has a fun park for the kids. We have been twice in the past two weeks. So much fun!

I've been told that there is a strip of beach at buckroe beach that is very famous for looking for sea glass. Where is it specifically at buckroe?

As we still enjoyed this place,as my last 2 visits, things seems to change.people now playing loud music, bringing their radio. lifeguards use their whistle a lot as people seems to not listen to them anymore ,and I have seen people smoking pots in front of lifeguards.hope place will stay like before when it was when family could relax and enjoy this best local beach instead of the touristic and Virginia Beach crowded beaches.like their rentals and food trucks.parking lot can be full at time but you still can find a place.
