For that vintage seaside atmosphere of candy floss and donkey rides, set up your deckchair in the section closest to the town. The Blue Flag beach is never overcrowded and also has trampolines, bouncy castle and pirate ship during the Summer. If you want a quieter space for your picnic and to be closer to the sea, then venture further along the one-mile long promenade perhaps using the land train which runs the length of the promenade.
Show more...I hadn't been to Barmouth beach in around 20 years, and my previous memories were of a somewhat rundown place. However, I decided to revisit with my young family, and I must say, I was pleasantly surprised!
The beach is absolutely stunning. It's clean and vast, providing ample space for families to enjoy. We had a wonderful day building sandcastles and playing by the water, and we indulged in some classic arcade games and fish and chips.
Parking was a breeze with the PayByPhone app, costing £5.50 for 12 hours. Overall, Barmouth beach exceeded my expectations, and it's a fantastic spot for a family day by the seaside. Highly recommended!
Lovely scenery and nice views however lack of parking a big issue! Took us almost an hour on a bank holiday weekend to find parking and there was chaos in every car park we visited with queues of cars waiting. Unfortunately did not enjoy the 1 hour or so drive through the mountains felt like a rollercoaster ride full of sharp bends. Made 2 of our passengers nauseous as they already suffer with travel sickness. So will not return. Other beaches have better car parking facilities even on a bank holiday. Beach was full of dogs. Yes the mountain views from beach are nice but not enough amenities
Show more...I can see why people come here.
LOTS of people come here and parking was an absolute nightmare
It’s also the case that it can’t really cope with the volume of visitors on a hot day and queuing for some chips or an ice cream can easily take 30 minutes.
However the beach is large, the scenery fantastic, water clear, and facilities decent
Free toilets are available within a 3 minute walk of the beach, though they were pretty filthy with broken and missing toilet seats, doors, and the smell was overwhelming
What has prevented me from giving a higher score is the large number of jellyfish
As I entered the sea I couldn’t understand why there were hundreds and hundreds of people on the sand but only about 20 in the sea.
And not one person swimming?
The answer? Jellyfish. Far too many of them for any sensible person to contemplate spending any time in the sea.
As the day progressed we heard a number of stories of people being stung, and one poor girl was in a bad way and was rushed away by the lifeguards.
Not being able to use the water meant our experience was severely tainted and we cut short our visiting.
I know it’s scarcely the fault of the beach that there were loads of jellyfish on the day we arrived, but it’s evidently common for the water to be unusable from other reviews and listening to locals.
And since a dip in the sea is an essential part of a beach visit for us, it spoiled our visit
Lovely for most types of public but only disabled accessible from the ramps on the promenade. One must be sure to take precautions and know the tide tables and possible weather warnings so as not to be caught in rip tides. There is a lifeboat station for those who need rescuing but this shouldn't give cart blanche to irresponsible bathers.

Was low tide so the sandy expanse was vast with pools of water trapped close to the sand dunes for children to play in. The sand is golden and soft around the dunes that it was so easy to nod off in the sun. Plenty of space for everyone and looked safe although I know that there have been some recent incidents in the water. Car parking is available behind the beach, probably fills up very quickly on a super hot day to look to get there early if you plan to spend the full day.
Show more...We visited barmouth whilst staying locally 10 miles away and decided to have a wander round for a few hours. It is a nice little town but we was surprised at how many shops are not geared up for wheelchair access, we couldn't go in a few places as the doorways were simply not wide enough which is a great shame, we literally could only look through the windows. For a monday afternoon it was a fairly busy place, really hard to find a parking space but did after 20 minutes of looking, if you have a blue badge then you can park for FREE all day! If not then it's £4 for 3 to 4 hours roughly. There is a decent selection of local fish and chip shops, doughnuts, rock shops and ice cream shops etc plus a small fun fair too.
Show more...This beach stretches around Barmouth. I've never been here before so was interested to visit it while I was down here. Well first went through the week was very quiet which I liked had a nice relaxing coffee by the train station. Plenty of car parking very expensive. Had a walk around town was quite surprised how small the town is but had 3 dogs with us so headed to the beach part dog friendly part on harbour side nice relaxing walk to water's edge weather windy sand blowing around like a sand storm but dogs wasn't worried. Well worth a visit. Came back later in the week without the dogs it was extremely busy and the beach was full. Hard to park being a busy period still had a nice relaxing few hours. Worth a visit.
Show more...This was a day trip out before my knee operation. Never been to Barmouth before, but lots of other surrounding towns. We were really pleasantly surprised how nice it was on a windy, chilly New Years day. After getting a free parking spot for the day by advice of a friendly local at 9am. We literally had the beach to ourselves, not a human or dog in sight. The walk down to the sea was long but worth it, the big waves were really crashing down, very windy, but I loved it, the sea air smell..fantastic.
We were let into The Tilman by the kind owner for breakfast (yummy) only normally open at 10.30 to residents, but she gave pity as nowhere else open.
We had the beautiful town virtually to ourselves taking in all the old town, the drunks jail, the Viaduct to Fairbourne (yay it was open) we climbed up some steep steps, between a couple of houses, with envious views of the estuary to a vantage point by Cae Fadog, a lone bench was waiting for us with our name on it, what a fab place for a picnic. The rest of our day was great too, even being attacked by a young cheeky seagull
Thoroughly lovely seaside town, will come again to stay.
Spotlessly clean, beautiful sandy beach. The sea was crystal clear.
Plenty of places to eat, drink and get ice creams.
Dog friendly with bowls of water placed out regularly, even doggy ice-cream.

Just returned from this little gem of a place in West Wales, what has gone wrong. I have been going here man and boy for over 40 years, since covid this little town has closed down as regards to eating out. Lots of the shops are shut down or closed, the ones that are open are all shut for 7pm. We must remember this a holiday resort so let's make hay while the sun shines, some of the restaurants are over priced for the family man with kids and your left with fish and chips. The residents need to get together and put some kind of infrastructure back. After 7 pm it's like a ghost town even on a summers eve please bring it back to life.
