Kaleideum is an interactive museum of arts, sciences, and exploration formed by the merger of The Children’s Museum of Winston-Salem and SciWorks in July 2016. The two museums merged into a single organization to reimagine learning and better meet the needs of our diverse community by providing more access to informal science discovery and cultural experiences. Our Mission: Inspiring wonder, curiosity, and lifelong learning in our children and community through interactive play and discovery. We achieve this through the overlapping lenses of literacy, the arts, and STEM. Our Vision: We envision a creative, innovative learning ecosystem that equips and empowers us all to make a difference in our ever-changing world.

We took our 8 year old granddaughter and she really enjoyed it. Lots of things to see and do, a lot with hands on experiences. She really enjoyed the dinosaur exhibit. Hoping we can take her again the next time we are in the area.

I came across Winston-Salem's SciWorks Museum online and thought a children's science museum might make a good one- or two-hour stop to break up a travel day back in March. We spent five hours here! There is so much to do, especially for active kids who want to run, ride scooters, pitch baseballs, climb, play carnival games, etc. The adults will have fun too -- you can try a Sedgway and board a roller coaster simulator. One of the outdoor wildlife exhibits is a tank of playful otters, which our son loved. The one downside is that there is only vending machine food. Bring your own picnic.

While your children might enjoy the science exhibits, this company has no right to have donkeys, sheep and goats living in a deplorable environment. The donkeys and goats were severely malnourished and heat exhausted in 100 degree weather. There was nothing for the goats to play on or with and there was no relief from the extreme temperatures. There was one fan mounted close to the ceiling of the inside of the barn that was blowing air above where the animals were laying. There were no misters to cool them down and no hay for them to graze on. Their paddocks were packed dirt with no grass. I tried to contact the local animal control but they are not open on Sundays. I've posted pictures of these poor animals.

This was a great find! Admission was cheap $11 for adults and $5 for kids. They had a ton of hands on learning experiences that were fun for us as well as my 7 year old son. They also have a planetarium and lazer show. This was a good blend of fun and learning. There is also an outdoor area with a little farm as well as a deer habitat and otter habitat. We really enoyed this museum!

I am a member and have been for the last three years. Love this place even though I drive about an hour to get there.
Sciworks has a new outdoor science park. It connects the main building with the Environmental Park and contains hands on exhibits including an archeological dig site, simple machines including a teeter-totter that even adults can get on, a whisper dish and a demonstration of solar and wind power. They have fenced across the walkway that led to the animals, so the only way to get to the science park is thru the front doors, then downstairs and out another door. Inside they have a KEVA block building area-think blocks for adults and kids alike. I had a good time building my own structure.
Everytime we go , we have a good time. Great place to go when it is bad weather outside. There is no covered walkway-so if it is raining bring an umbrella or the driver can drop off near front door.
There is a dining area-but there is only a soda machine and a snack machine no microwave. So either eat before you come or bring something to eat with you. There are bathrooms on every level. It is very wheelchair accessible and most exhibts are very interactive for a wheelchair individual.

I loved the visit with grandkids. I became so involved with some of the active exhibits I nearly got left behind. Staff were good, especially with daily animal exhibitions. Outdoor animal section also very interesting. Worth the stop.

I went on a Saturday whilst in WS on business. I was bowled over, what a superb day out. I spent about 5 hours exploring the various exhibits. Be sure to take in a Planetariujm experience whilst you are there and make sure that you walk down to the creek and say Hi to the otters. Uncrowded and full of hands-on exhibits and experiments. And at only USD 11 for adult entry not expensive.

A great hands-on kids museum. Interaction everywhere around you.
You can spend anywhere from 2-4 hours in this place and the kids are never bored.
Start off with all the basics of momentum, vacuum chair lift was popular with the kids, the spinning wheel and all the fun-house type of mirrors really intregue the kids of all ages.
Next is the wildlife area. Lots animals facts to learn.
Next is the human body experiance. Kids interact with all the senses and the adults can learn a lot too.
The sound gallery is kind of small and NOISY but what would expect from a place called the Sound gallery?
Then there is a series of galleries to interact with optical illusions, test yourselves running against different animals, spinning wheels and all the stuff that makes science fun.
The outdoor widlife interactions are great but do them early because it gets hot out there quick. The barnyard is cool, lots to interact with.
The reoccuring theme is interaction. No one (kids especially) likes to just look at stuff. They want to touch it and play with it.
No food offerings just basic vending machines. Pack a lunch or eat before you get there. Lots of places outside for a picnic lunch.
Go for the kids but rekindle your child-like fascination with science again.

My girlfriend and I loved the entire trip, except for the live animals. You could clearly tell that the animals were not well taken care of, stressed out, and did not like the environment they were placed in. The habitats were very small and the birds especially looked terrible. The feathers were in terrible condition and it looked like they just got away from a predator.

But overall i would come back with 4 of my kids again.
