The hotel is set in a much admired and envied position down a long private driveway on the banks of the River Conwy at the edge of Betws-y-Coed in Snowdonia. We have 16 acres of our own beautiful gardens and we are surrounded by uninterrupted and breathtaking views of the Conwy Valley with its wooded slopes forming the perfect atmosphere in which to relax in peaceful tranquillity. Privately owned, the traditional values of hospitality hold strong with the emphasis on courtesy and service.
Show more...The best hotel in North Wales. In the very best location and such friendly staff who made us feel so welcome. The food was absolutely incredible and the room was stunning. Would absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone who’s thinking of staying in and around North Wales.
Show more...We stayed at Craig-y-Dderwen for 2 nights recently. My husband and I had stayed there previously, but this time took my mother and our dog. Prior to booking I had some quite specific requests and these were all fulfilled which was much appreciated. The hotel is lovely and both rooms we used were very comfortable, well appointed and warm. The hotel is extremely dog friendly and our dog had a very nice time, as did us humans. Breakfast was very good, with lots of choice and good quality ingredients. We also had dinner in the restaurant which was also very good. The best thing about this hotel though is the staff, without exception, everyone was excellent and nothing was too much trouble. However, I must give a special mention to Mark, who went above and beyond, even opening up the kitchen early to make my husband an early breakfast. We would definitely return and would thoroughly recommend this hotel.
Show more...I had high expectations for my stay based on reviews and photos, and I was let down. As I walked into our room, I immediately said this isn’t a 4 star hotel. No power shower, cheap light fittings, £10 charge for dressing gowns, plastic flowers on tables in restaurant, cheap patio furniture, dirty balcony, no waiter service for bar even though the patio was 10ft away, and whilst I am mentioning the bar, 2 beers, one a half pint was £11.00. I have found London better priced. Dinner was £52 pp for 2 courses and it was trying too hard, portions were meagre, not ideal after a day spent walking. Breakfast was slow, and limited for a 4 star, no seeds/nuts, white or brown bread, 2 choice’s of jam, no honey, I had to return my poached eggs. We had a sloping ceiling in our room and my partner banged his head, not good. The setting is amazing, just a shame the hotel has lost its way. There is a nice walk from hotel and a dog area for a quick morning walk. It’s a bit of a walk to town too.
Show more...Myself and my husband had a lovely stay for our Anniversary this weekend. The staff were very engaging, with great attention to detail. Very dog friendly, dog sausage for breakfast and dog towels at reception, a great touch! We received a lovely warm, personable welcome by Michelle. They catered really well for my vegan requirements. Our vegan breakfast was lovely! We dined in the AA rosette restaurant on the Saturday, the starters and mains were fabulous however both our desserts fell short of the mark. The proportion of tart filling to pastry was swayed heavily to a dense filling, there really needs to be more pastry involved, or possibly a layer of light whipped cream or something as a balancer - as it was too heavy/rich dessert after 2 courses already. The vegan ice cream and sorbet was lovely... however having dined at a number of well-awarded restaurants, a few scoops of ice cream and sorbet, however lovely they were - is a bit of a vegan option cop-out for something selling itself as fine-dining. The room was fine and the grounds were just idyllic! Could do with getting some more decent beers in the bar. We think the stay was pricy, but have to take into account the world we are currently in. All minor points, would absolutely return, many thanks! :)
Show more...This is a brilliant hotel. Easy parking. Beautiful views. Welcoming staff. Fantastic fine dining. Excellent breakfast. We had a two day stay and couldn’t fault anything from the whole stay. The staff are super polite friendly and helpful. They give the impression they are very proud of their place of work and try to make you stay that little bit more special by putting in extra effort. Every member of staff is a delight. The hotel is super clean and the effort made to maintain the rooms and all lounge areas is second to none. Breakfast and evening meals are presented beautifully by a highly skilled chef. The food is stunning and fresh packed with flavour. Fine dining by an award winning chef. And you can tell. A real pleasure to visit hotel. Now I like a moan. I also love a rant. But there is nothing other that positives to say here. Well worth a stay.
Show more...Check-in was quick, greeted by Michelle, who is a fantastic person/ host, stayed in room 18, which is a deluxe double, fantastic views over the garden and river. Room had coffee, tea, kettle, iron, ironing board. Did eat at the hotel which was very nice, 3 course meal for two works out at around £130. Breakfast has great options and is very tasty. All hotel staff are fantastic at this hotel, in fact, the best that I've ever encountered at any hotel. EV car charger on site, around 50p per KW, sockets for 2 cars, but it does look like they are about to install another 2 sockets. Need to download the EVC plus app. All in all, a very peaceful hotel with fantastic staff, Thank you, we will be back.
Show more...Amazing location. Just breath-taking. Beautiful outside terrace and glass walled restaurant, which both have river- side views. Staff are welcoming, attentive and friendly. The evening menu offers a range of interesting options for each course, and the food is very tasty and looks beautiful when plated up. Extensive wine list. Well worth a visit for a special occasion. A truly lovely spot to eat and drink.
Show more...This is a small but very comfortable hotel. The staff were great, particularly the Manager Michelle who was really helpful when we were delayed and arriving late. The views over the river are beautiful and the breakfasts outstanding. In all a brilliant stay, thank you all.

Before even arriving, correspondence was excellent and I had high hopes. Those high hopes were definitely met, the welcome was friendly and warm, the room was great and had everything we needed. We were lucky enough to get a room with a view over the lawn which was extra special to wake up to. We didn't try to bar or restaurant - far too tired after a long day in the mountains but I can confirm, this is the perfect place to crash in, have a hot bath and relax for the evening. The Bonio for the dog was a sweet addition, she felt very welcome too! Breakfast went down nicely, we both went for full Welsh and the self serve continental made it convenient to grab extra toast, coffees etc. If I were forced to add a suggestion to the owner (it really was great and we will definitely be back) but I would perhaps go for a tad more Welshness. The soaps in the rooms were made by a company with 'English' in the name (which feels like a missed opportunity to support a local supplier) and I'd have loved the option to have some traditional Welsh dishes at breakfast. We usually use places like this as a one night, standalone BnB but we will definitely return to Craig Y Dderwen - even though we only live 1.5hrs down the road. That says it all!
