The Special Nature Reserve Barranco del Infierno is a place where only 300 people are allowed to enter a day in order to preserve the environment and not alter the development of the species, the flora and fauna. Thus, to visit the place a previous reservation is essential. Book now checking the calendar and availability and make sure you get your entrance ticket. We'll be waiting for you!
Show more...The gorge and its surroundings are very beautiful. Unfortunately, the adaptation to mass tourist traffic - paths, footbridges, viewpoints - has reduced the attractiveness of this place for me. I recommend it in November and December when the number of tourists is small.
Show more...As recommended on the web site we joined an early group to maximise the chance of contact with unique flora and fauna and maybe even enjoy a sense of ‘awe and wonder’. The reality turned out to be rather different. The ‘limit’ of 300 per day is actually more than one person setting off every 50 seconds or so on average and many, many times the norm seen on equally beautiful island tracks and trails. The sight of lines of visitors ploughing along together with phones pinging and sticks flailing scared usnever mind the fauna! By the time we finished before midday the sky was dotted with hang gliders rather than the resident birds - just not the image communicated on the web.
It’s value for money if you want a change from the coast and a selfie wearing a hat but for serious hikers head to the superb - free and peaceful - tracks that have walkers returning year after year to the islands.
Walking trail several kilometers takes about 3.5 hours to complete, there is only one path, so you come back on he same way. there are lots of stairs going up and down
There is a nice view of the city all the way to the sea in the biginning. The ravine gets narrower as you proceed and the sides steeper. Water is flowing towards the last part of the path and there are lots of vegetation .
Arriving to the entrance by car is not suggested, as there are no parking palces. It is quite a walking hike uphill to reach the entrance.
It is better to visit it in the morning hours, less sun amd yopu can take your time. There are two guards in the path, one in the end and he followed us going back, although officially there was one more hour for it to be open. So we rushed our way back, which was not nice.
If you want to see nice nature close to playa america this is a good opportunity. Do not forget to make a reservation as only 300 people per day are allowed to visit this place. It is easy reachable by taxi (13eur ) or by bus.
Show more...Me and my girlfriend did this short hiking trail yesterday and loved the experience. Highly recommended for the trek itself, not just for the waterfall because especially during drought it’s very small.
You’ll find beautiful and diverse landscapes throughout, the flora and fauna changing the further you go into the mountain and there is plenty information along the route. The path itself is relatively easy to traverse but we recommend to bring a good pair of walking shoes with good profile and plenty of water.
The strict regulation of this trail and efforts of the staff has resulted in the pristine condition of the path itself and protection of the flora and fauna, which make it well worth the entry fee.
The only downside for us was that we weren’t sure where to park the car initially, instructions about this are given on the website, but we hadn’t read the email about this.
Highly recommended for anyone who loves a good walk, enjoys stunning views and likes to explore the native flora and fauna.
What a way to spend my 67th birthday morning.!!! We deliberately booked an early start to avoid the fiercest heat of the day. The scenery was fantastically dramatic dramatic, as was the plant life in the
second half of the walk. The first 30 minutes were quite tough but after that the route flattened a little.
The 4 staff we met were very friendly and gave good advice about the walk and what lived and grew in the area. They helped arrange a taxi after the walk too. There was equipment for hire; boots etc and I was particularly glad I hired walking poles (especially for the walk back down).
A fabulous walk revealing the really beautiful and unexpected countryside of southern Tenerife. Best to book online, tickets were available on the day we visited, you may be disappointed in high season because only 300 places are available per day and these are soon snapped up.
The revine was a hidden treasure but do make sure you follow the path all the way to the waterfall not just to the 10th signpost, we noticed quite a few turned back without doing the full walk. The walk took approximately 3 hours at a leisurely pace, and is not too gruelling. Make sure to take good walking boots,it is well worth hiring walking sticks , binoculars to watch the soaring birds and of course plenty of water (it was 24 degrees in the shade during our visit). Very nice ,knowelagable staff at the Centre who can answer any questions about the local flora and fauna.
An absolute gem that was one of the highlites of our stay on the island.
Lovely food is served at the cafe/restaurant and well deserved after the walk.
We have done this walk twice before, some years ago. The path is now engineered, hard hats (for safety reasons) are required and you have to pay 8.50 euros pp. it takes 3 to 4 1/2 hrs depending on your speed of walking. Take plenty of water. There are quite a few ups and downs so the total climbing, I think, is more than the 300metres the info claims. The contrast in foliage and wild life through the walk is amazing. Up near the waterfall it is in the shade and cooler. Maybe take an extra covering?
There is a good (paying ) car park provided now and a 10 min walk up to the staring booth.
The reward is a super lunch at Otelo’s afterwards!!
The terrain did not difficult but be carful.
To start, we cannot comment on the trail because we showed up at our designated time, assessed the situation, then quickly asked for a refund. It was not what we were expecting. We hike regularly, so are comfortable finding trail heads and exploring new venues (We lean heavily on Alltrails). We read that this was a beautiful hike and made the assumption that the combination of having to schedule a time and pay for the hike meant that there would be a steady stream of hikers, but no crowds. What we ran into was the opposite. It felt more like showing up for a very large group event! We arrived ahead of our scheduled time and were asked to wait in a holding area that had at least 40-50 people waiting. Everyone was given mandated helmets to wear. Many people were dressed more for a walk than a hike some wearing sandals or soft bottomed running shoes. We were told we were waiting "to allow the previous group to make space". Meanwhile, they closed off our holding area and started a new one for others arriving - to wait for us to "make space on the trail" once we were able to leave. We waited 20 minutes, then concluded this is not what we were looking for in a hike. We removed ourselves from the waiting area and asked for a refund, which they gladly gave us. When we left our group was still waiting. I'm sure it is a beautiful hike (there is so much beauty on the island), but we were not looking for a "group experience". We turned to Alltrails, found a glorious (free) hike around Montaña Roja and had a glorious day.

This is a 3 hour round trek and can be done by people with reasonable fitness level. There are limited amount of spaces every day available so I would highly recommend buying your ticket online. Also there is limited parking, it took us over 20 minutes to find a space, which meant we initially missed our booked spot, however the gentleman at the ticket box was able to get us into the next group (thank you for that!) He also told me where the public parking was, so its worth looking up before you go.
Show more...The trek is fantastic with the views and scenery being spectacular. The waterfall at the end is a very picturesque (don't expect niagara falls) but worth visiting.
Would recommend anyone doing this trip if they want a to do a short walk during their visit.
