Hotel Casa Del Mar

1550 Reviews

Inspired by the grand villas of the Mediterranean and the beachy vibe of Santa Monica, Hotel Casa del Mar invites you to unwind in style. Its vibrant new ocean view lobby and Terrazza Lounge by interior designer Michael S. Smith are a contemporary contrast to its classic Italian Renaissance exterior. Originally built in 1926, this exquisitely restored oceanfront hotel in the heart of Silicon Beach offers some of the most coveted accommodations on the West Coast. Each new exquisitely styled guest room and suite showcases local coastal art and residential design, many feature sweeping vistas of the coastline from Palos Verdes to Malibu. No matter where you are at Hotel Casa Del Mar, you are only a stones through from the pacific. Indulge in eco-minded wellness at Sea Wellness Spa before discovering farmers-market-driven selections at Terrazza as you watch the sunset or just grab a cocktail in The Lobby Lounge and enjoy the view.

My wife and I spent 3 nights in this beautiful historic hotel. The attention to details, quality of service, excellence of food are just at the very top of what one can expect in such a 5 start hotel. The concierge was also very knowledgeable about great local restaurants. The 3 miles radius limo service was a nice extra too. Special kudos to the chef of the restaurant, super fresh, original and tasty food. It really feels like a hidden gem restaurant that people don’t know about but is one of the best restaurants of this type we have been too. Of course the hotel comes with a hefty price tag ($1000+/night for a room with Ocean view) but you definitely get what you pay for.

It had been about ten years since we stayed at the Casa Del Mar and I wasn’t sure if anything had changed, but our latest stay was just as wonderful as the first. It’s a beautiful hotel with beautiful rooms and such a gorgeous main level overlooking the ocean. The staff - everyone single one of them - makes you feel thoroughly welcomed and are friendly and helpful - a special shout out to the concierges Hanzel and Amy. The food at the restaurant was delicious. Yes it’s an expensive hotel but at least if you’re splurging you are getting your money’s worth. Two things to note, which may or may not have been specific to our room: our king bed was really high and even though I am on the tall side it was still interesting getting into it (I am almost 60 but in decent shape) so if you are on the shorter side be prepared! Bed was comfy though. Also, in the bathroom, which was beautifully appointed and well stocked with essentials, the tub has an unusually high side so again it may be a little harder to step into than normal. Aside from those two little things to know - which only may be an issue for shorter or older guests - this hotel is well worth a visit. When we travel we do like to book higher end hotels and would absolutely stay here again.

Simply stated, it is the finest hotel my wife and I have staye in. It starts with people-competent, looking for ways to be friendly. We've been to Santa Monica three times for at least a week each time. This was our first stay at Casa Del Mar and we will always be going back.

Booked through Amex. Have stayed here maybe 20 times. They never remember me when I arrive. I booked a “partial ocean view “ room and was entitled to an upgrade through Amex. When I arrived they told me they’d upgraded me to a full ocean view. Guess what they gave me the same room overlooking the parking lot and giant hole to the north and said “we now call this a full ocean view “

Great historical hotel with a wonderful lobby and live entertainment. Luck of the draw had me here when a boiler went out so no hot water for a night. Made for uncomfortable bathing that’s for sure. Had to call to find out why no hot water the next morning. Would have been better had a notice been sent out advising guests. Hotel did offer alternatives and credit for dinner. Very comfy bed and great toiletries. Service a little off as bags were taken to wrong room and took several hours to get. The guy who did it was very apologetic and asked could he get us anything. When we asked for razor and a couple of other items he said he’d be right back and we never saw him again. That’s why this is a 4 star not five. With the boiler issue should have been a two but they tried to make it right so that goes a long way….things happen and it’s how you handle it that makes the difference.

Very luxe location, amenities, and service. We splurged on a 2-room suite with a view for our family and took advantage of everything: bike rental, pool, spa, and restaurants. Rooms had bright big windows with a gorgeous view of the beach and bike path. Service here is exceptional and rooms sumptuously appointed without being stuffy. It’s just a few blocks walk to Santa Monica Pier, which we took advantage of. Very much enjoyed cocktails daily in the exquisite lobby. Don’t know when we will be back in southern Cali but we’ll certainly make this our destination if we get back there again.

This was a business trip during which I brought my wife for part of the time, so call this a business/couples review. Regardless, it was the best experience I've ever had at a hotel in Santa Monica. And I've stayed at them all. It didn't hurt at all that they upgraded my room t a suite overlooking the beach. But beyond the room, this hotel is a class act. Incredible desk staff. Housekeeping with a fine eye for detail. Amazing lobby lounge and restaurant. 11 out of 10. I had a small issue with my coffeemaker and they simply replaced it.

We finished a long road trip here, and what a finale! Casa Del Mar is as exquisite inside as it is out. Ideal for our last three night relax before heading back across the Atlantic. The architecture is amazing, but pales into insignificance when you experience the service and atmosphere. Our room was a partial ocean view…more of a full ocean to us! Sumptuous bedding and the beautiful layout of our bedroom was perfect. Great housekeeping, wonderful turndown and facilities. The lobby is large, impeccably decorated and accessorised, so quite amazing. We had live jazz each night, with superb musicians. Great to listen to as we had either a drink or casual dinner. The pool area was small but really good, with a view across the beach. Service was a little too intermittent though. Shame, as the facility was beautiful. The reception and valet team couldn’t do enough for you. We tripped across to Shutters for breakfast as it’s a sister hotel and you can charge to your room. It was a great breakfast, but I realised we’d made the right choice…Casa is a nicer hotel! We made use of the lovely ‘house car’ service to help us return our hire car and take us to and return from local restaurants. This was a super service on top of everything else. Finally, a delightful Sunday brunch at Terazza restaurant overlooking the beach finished our holiday perfectly. Oh, and I’d have taken every book from the room on casual California home to redecorate to!

From reading the reviews, I was hoping for a great stay but I can't express just how wonderful experience my weekend at Casa Del Mar was. From the moment you pull up to the valet, every single staff member is attentive, kind, supportive, and willing to go above and beyond to make you comfortable. I had booked a superior room for a girl's weekend for my birthday and upon arriving, was absolutely surprised and delighted that I had been upgraded to a suite. The staff at the front desk, including my girl Jamie who made sure I had everything I needed, was so welcoming and made me feel so at home from just my first interaction. The room was beautifully appointed. Exactly how I would imagine decorating a beach house to relax and unwind in. I loved the bathroom - the shower had great water pressure, the windows into the living room made it fun, and the diptyque products were luxurious. They have dyson hair dryers as well. The living room was spacious, bright, and a wonderful set up for entertaining. The bed was one of the best I've ever slept in. I prefer a higher bed and a plush cloud-like experience - so much that I search reviews for "comfortable bed" when booking to make sure I am tracking in the direction. The bed did not disappoint - I never wanted to leave. As if the upgrade wasn't enough, the team also sent me complimentary champagne for my birthday which just really blew my mind. This team thinks of everything and really takes your experience seriously - I wish every hotel trained their staff like Casa Del Mar. The view is unparalleled from the pool and the Terrazza restaurant. The way the lobby/cabana area feeds into the bar and restaurant makes the hotel feel seamless, welcoming, and warm. Its rare for a hotel lobby to feel like that these days and it truly was so inviting I could have sat for hours. The couches in the lobby bar are inviting, the cabanas add a fun flair to your hospitality experience (had great night time drinks with wonderful live music), and there is no place like the restaurant at Terrazza. We had brunch there on Sunday before I left for the airport and we stayed for over three hours drinking in the view and also drinking wine. The food was fabulous (definitely go for the lobster roll) and again, the staff was incredibly attentive. One thing to definitely take advantage of is the free car service within 3 miles after 4pm. I had a few dinners in Venice and having that available to me at a moments notice was a life changer. The Valet team is also just top notch - my car was always waiting and ready with a fresh cold bottle of water for my journey and a smile. At the end of the day, I basically had to will myself to leave because I could have stayed forever. Overall, the hotel is beautifully appointed, the food and drink are delicious, the attention to detail is noticeable, and the dedication of the staff to creating a memorable experience for their guests is apparent from arrival to departure. I will be raving about Casa Del Mar for years to come and look forward to finding an excuse to get back there as soon as possible. Thank you to every team member that made it the most perfect birthday weekend.
