A regular visitor until lockdown, this beautiful reservoir was in pristine condition, so clean and inviting such a pleasure to be. Visited again today after such a long time and were totally shocked, a large family barbecuing (totally not allowed) on the small grassed area at the side of the carpark dumped their filthy plates and garbage over the wall behind they were sitting, and which was indeed the bridge the public use to begin or end their walks. So many off lead dogs or on extended leashes getting underfoot or jumping up on passersby, I pick up after my dog and pop it in the bin provided there are bins at the beginning of the walk and at the carpark, but quite a few irresponsible dog owners obviously made a point of picking up their pooches poo then either dumped the bags over the walls or jammed it between the bricks for the poor folk who work so hard to keep the environment pleasurable to clean up. This beautiful area is in danger of becoming a dumping ground, please be responsible and respectful of the environment and preserve this beautiful area for us all and future generations
Show more...Loved, loved this place. I have 2 dogs and, I have a very weak ankle which means I struggle walking on uneven ground. This place was beautiful, easy to navigate and to top it off it has the Strawberry Duck pub en route.
Show more...Walked this a few times during lock down. Lovely circular route of approximately 5km. Can get rather chilly when the sun isn’t shining but who cares when you’ve got fantastic views and your outside in the fresh country air!
Plenty of stop off points (benchesj) if you fancy a stop off for a picnic.
Car park is free.
Defo will be returning during the autumn months to watch the trees leaves turn golden brown.
One of my new favourite places to walk round. Parking is limited so get there early. We went for a picnic as the local pub was still shut. Be great to make a day of it pretty soon. Some places were patchy with puddles etc but this is to be expected. Overall I recommend highly.
Show more...Really lovely long walk, pretty much flat, quite a few large muddy patches in March which were difficult to navigate so wear sensible footwear. We walked around the Entwistle reservoir and then the Wayoh reservoir, stopping in at the Chatham Arms for a quick pint and toilet break before heading back down round the reservoir to the Strawberry Duck for a bite to eat. Very relaxing and pretty quiet, not much wildlife but a pleasant and attractive walk nonetheless
Show more...Lovely long walk around here. Make sure you are wearing good footwear and not flimsy flip flops. In hot weather get some bug spray on. Lots of dog poo sadly. A great brisk walk around this stunning area. Great photo stops along the way.
Show more...As a Boltonian I think this is one of the best walks in the area even though it's in Blackburn. Solid walking path all the way around the 2.5 mile walk with regular sitting areas dedicated to those loved ones that are lost to us. The scenery reminds me of Scandinavia or even Canada, it's a stunning way to spend your leisure time. You'll see squirrels every time and deer if you're there early enough. Beautiful, you should get out there, it will refresh your spirit.
Show more...Beautiful walk around the reservoir, just over an hour walk! The walk is flat but stony in places. Also there is a car park next to the reservoir. Would recommend if you want to take the dog out and then go to the pub up the road after.
Show more...Lovely place for a walk - very even path around the lake so no issues for people with reduced mobility.
Views are lovely, you forget that you are so close to the urban sprawl of Greater Manchester, Bolton, Blackburn etc
Popular with dog-walkers, plenty of parking by the dam - pay and display car park is currently out of action due to the vandalism of the machine so no need to pay either!
Close to the Strawbury Duck as well which is a great place to eat & drink!
Can get busy on Sat & Sun.

Lovely picturesque countryside walk right on our doorsteps spoilt by irresponsible dog walkers. The amount of discarded dog poo bags and unpicked poo around the lake was vile. Someone however, had took it apon themselves to leave bags tied to fencing which just highlighted the problem even more. Instead of people placing stones on top of each other next to the waters edge like in the Lake District. Some artist dog walkers have gone one step better and start to create their own sculpture of discarded dog poo instead carefully piling it up on a wall creating their own masterpiece. Lack of bins would suggest the reason why they feel the need to do this. Why they can’t carry it round until they find a bin is beyond me. But, even if they did find it they would discover that the solitary bin is overflowing. I can see why this place became popular during lockdown. But, unfortunately the more popular it has become the more people have failed to appreciate its beauty and importance to care for it. Only saving grace is that there are Some belting pubs nearby for Sunday lunch after you navigate all the dog sh**e.
