This is a fab place to visit, and especially good if at any point you've studied DH Lawrence (my teachers were obsessed tho i can't say i'm a big fan). This old miners cottage is beautifully kept with lots of Victorian/Edwardian furniture but it is the link to DH Lawrence that makes it so special. DH Lawrence was brilliant at recreating place - and in particular that crossover between workplace and home which he experienced growing up in Eastwood. They also have films to watch, lots of info about the many local mines/miners and some rare copies of his books. Staff are super knowledgeable and as DH Lawrence isn't really fashionable at the moment most visitors are there because they have a real interest in lawrence and would love to talk about him or his writing or banning books. Expect a PHD level chat with someone! I' still not a lawrence fan, but i have been rereading his books thanks to visiting this great museum. Eastwood links to Lawrence in the same way that Sttatford upon Avon boasts its connection to Shakespeare. And it was easy to reach from Nottingham used the wittily named Rainbow bus.

An excellent museum and experience. We were greeted by lovely staff who had a genuine interest in the history of D.H. Lawrence and who could answer any of our questions. To give you that extra authenticity there was even a coal fire in the grate. Even the shelves were well stocked with memorabilia, especially the books related to the author and the wider history of the area. It gave you the feel that the family were still living in the house. There was ample parking just around the corner from the museum where the fee was just a pound for two hours. You cannot complain at the price of the entry fee when you compare it to other venues. One visit was not enough and we will go back. We found the whole surrounding area very agreeable and there is a lovely cafe opposite. Altogether a nice experience.

Having visited Eastwood last weekend for a social event, as a group we made a visit on the Saturday morning to this Museum. Very well laid out with very good information and learnt a lot about D.H. Lawrence and that of his life and his family. Absolutely worth a visit, staff also well informed and very friendly.
Thank you very much.
Steve from Hampshire.

Wonderfully informative museum! You will develop a greater understanding of the Author visiting this place and recognise he was trying to find a healthier way to discuss and explain adult relationships far more in common with a modern understanding than any level of understanding in his own time. He was truly groundbreaking. You will learn about his family, his life in full and gain a social history view of life for the Victorian working class. The museum is beautifully laid out and highlights for us were the delightful kitchen with lit range and hissing gas lights that give a feeling of the family having just stepped out for a moment. The shop has a pleasant and very reasonably priced range of goods including Lawrence novels. The staff are incredibly welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable. A real gem of an attraction.

I have wanted to visit this museum since I studied the author at secondary school. It was all I imagined and more !The guide James was friendly, welcoming and had a wealth of knowledge. The museum was beautifully preserved with in depth narratives of the author’s life and how his characters were created through his life experiences. As a follow-up it would have been nice to have had a short summary of the fate of the rest of the Lawrence’s. We also took the walk through the village which was somewhat problematic as the instructions were confusing and the blue line trail was largely covered by tarmac. We eventually found most places but it was quite frustrating to locate them.

This is a really good little museum to visit if you're interested in the life of D.H. Lawrence, and even if you've never heard of him. There's quite a lot to see in such a small space. You can choose self guided or guided.
We enjoyed it and would recommend.

One negative was, the man on reception expected our five year old to fill out and find all the items and things that were too advanced for his age before he got a lollipop, which I thought was a bit much. Yes, it's voluntary but the sign actually said,
"Find Bertie and you'll get a treat".

This really is an excellent small museum, beautifully curated and atmospheric. We were the only visitors on a day the weather was dark and raining - heavily. On route elsewhere, we were so glad we found the time to detour here and learn more about DH Laurence, life in the mining town and how it influenced his writing. Warmly welcomed, the staff are knowledgeable and friendly. Absolute Gem.

I would endorse all the positive comments. I visited last week and found the whole experience really informative and enjoyable. Much information was presented in a straightforward and non modish way. The staff was particularly friendly, enthusiastic, informative and helpful. Two cafes on the doorstep. Eastwood an easy trip by bus from the centre of Nottingham

I visited with a group of friends and found the whole experience most interesting and enjoyable. The introductory video set the tone and background to our guided tour which was led by Caroline who was incredibly well informed and easy to listen to. As DH Lawrence's birth place, this little miner's cottage is authentically recreated and gives you a wonderful insight into his early family life as it is filled with personal artefacts and typical Victorian objects. Each room is a little goldmine of cultural and historical interest.

Beautifully presented small museum, bringing D H Lawrence alive to visitors. The interpretation is set at a good level - interesting but not overdone and the sense of close community is still present in the museum. Well worth a visit if you are, or have ever been, a fan of D H Lawrence.
