The Siege Museum

The museum’s main focus is on the early history of the walled city and the 1689 siege of Derry. It makes good use of various media and artifacts to provide an interesting insight into events - I certainly won’t forget that citizens paid to eat rats during the siege.

It also had a good section on the development of the Apprentice Boys clubs.

Spent an easy hour, wandering through this value for money Museum. The staff were very friendly. The museum has created a wonderful space to let the visitor steep themselves in the history of the city, with a excellent mix of audio and artifact's. Well worth the visit.

Members of the Royal British Legion Northern Ireland continuing our walking trips visited the museum. Having arranged a larger party. We were met by Jim, starting in the museum we had a guided tour of this which was very informative. With my 11-year-old granddaughter asking the most challenging questions. After a very informative tour, Jim escorted us around a part of the walls. Continuing to inform us of the history and culture of the city.

This was a great museum with a reasonable entry fee. The gentleman on the desk was very helpful telling us the best way to experience the museum. It had a couple of short videos to watch and lots of good exhibits. We found it very helpful, having been to the museum, when we went on the city walls tour the day after.

Heard about this museum many times, and today made it for the first time with my wife. From the minute we arrived to the time we left we both enjoyed it. The guy on the desk was very welcoming and took time to answer any questions. There are 3 floors with the ground floor set out as a temporary display on the First World War and the 100 years of the formation of Northern Ireland, second floor was on the history of the siege, with some piece’s dating back to the siege, top floor was set aside for the history of the apprentice boys of Derry association. Great value at only £5.00 entry fee and a good gift shop on the ground floor. Great place for families giving an unbiased view of the siege. Well done everyone involved.

The Siege Museum offers a Unionist account of the history of Derry. The museum is informative and the staff is very friendly. I learnt a lot. Some elements of the exhibition made me cringe a bit, as one video said that after the Siege of Derry, the protestant victory had brought religious freedom to all. Ouch. Yet there weren’t many of such elements and I think that the exhibition was as respectful as it gets when discussing an extremely sectarian conflict.

You cant visit Londonderry and walk round the walls without going to the Siege Museum to learn about this very important part of History

Took a day trip to Londonderry to see the sights on the walls , I had heard or the the siege museum from people who had been there before so thought we would give it a visit , although not widely advertised managed to find it through the one way road system.
Parking is just across the street , the museum is spread over 3 levels with lift access, the guy on the desk was very informative about the displays and upcoming events and routes around the walls , £4 entrance fee and free for kids .
Museum is very well kept and many artefacts on display from the world wars , throughout the museum they have a mass of information about the siege of Derry along with audio visual shows explaining the history of the walled city .
On ground floor they have a gift shop well stocked and reasonably priced and many booklets explaining the history and events in the city.
I would recommend a visit to the siege museum for anyone wanting to learn the history of the city and apprentice boys .

I am from derry city and had friends from Glasgow visiting who wanted to visit the siege museum.
I was never in the museum and didn’t quite know what to expect coming from a different background!

Firstly I would like to thank Stuart who runs the museum,a very warm welcome for us and he answered all our questions with great detail and knowledge,he has a great sense of humour as well.

The museum its self takes you through the history of the apprentice boys and history of the siege of derry!great artefacts,scaled models and videos

I found this museum excellent. It is well laid out and there are 2 short videos that cover the siege and the Apprentice Boys. It is staged over 3 floors. The ground floor is an introduction, the siege is on floor 1 and Apprentice Boys on second floor. It took us just over 1 hour. Entrance is £3 each but well worth it. I highly recommend this museum.
