Skidaway Island State Park

629 Reviews

Located near historic Savannah, this park borders Skidaway narrows, a part of Georgia’s intracoastal waterway. Trails wind through maritime forest and past salt marsh, leading to a boardwalk and observation tower. Visitors can watch for deer, fiddler crabs, raccoon, egrets and other wildlife. A scenic campground is nestled under live oaks and Spanish moss, while groups can enjoy privacy in their own pioneer campgrounds. Open-air picnic shelters and an enclosed group shelter are popular spots for parties, reunions and other celebrations.

Good Points. Nice walking trials with plenty of birdlife. Close to Savannah and Tybee attractions. Plenty of Pull-Thrus. Most sites are shaded and some have sewer hook-ups. Deer walk through the Park. Close to Supermarkets and lots of places to eat.

Negative Points: Be careful with your site selection. Some of the 30LF sites can be small for RVs, not all are equal size and can be very right angled, especially if you have two cars / truck, but some are nice and big. The bathroom we were using had some broken stuff, shower fold down seat. etc.

Found we could not use our free 3 days Friends of the Park Camping as it was a Bank Holiday Weekend, but we were staying for a full 7 day week after the black out dates. Had to go back later in the week after the initial check in to get the free 3 days refunded - crazy inflexible state park check in system. Park and Sites can be buggy but not too bad in May, but you will need to use a fan and Deet to not get bitten. $10 for firewood wood seems a little steep.

Very clean, huge campsites, hiking and biking opportunities. A nearby grocery store and village library. Very close to Savannah.

This is a very pretty state park. We stayed in a full hookup area which I recommend. Best spots are 28 through 42.(even numbers) #30 probably the best, Skidaway is close enough to run over to Savannah or Tybee for a visit. Also, there is a Publix close by. It also has some nice trails you can walk or bike.

Our art group was going to Savannah so we decided to tag along but didn't want to pay the hotel prices and have a very cozy camper.

We enjoyed our visit to the park. We picked uip a trail map at the visitor center. The trails are all flat and easy. We did par of the Sandpiper trail. A bridge was out so you couldn't do the loop. We also did the Big Ferry trail. We enjoyed walking through the marsh/wetlands. It is so different than our local area in North Georgia. The park has cabins and camping also.

4.5 stars if I could.
Site 30 was probably 100 feet long, pull-thru, shaded, level, gravel, fhu’s, picnic table, firepit and a short walk to public bathroom/showers. There is a park store at the office.
When we checked in, we were told ‘that is the best campsite in the park.’ Lucky us, but only one night.
There is a $5 entry fee to park, and I received a %10 Senior Discount. $51 total per night.
There is no wifi and about 42 OTA TV channels received. Cell service was excellent.
I can’t comment too much on amenities because we were only there overnight but it was a beautiful park and outstanding campsite. It is close to downtown Savannah.
I would love to visit this park again and stay longer.

We visited here recently and explored the walking trails. While one of them was closed due to flood damage, the others were open. The views were really nice and it was a peaceful way to spend an afternoon. It can be windy there this time of year, so bring a light jacket!

What a beautiful state park. We arrived after dark (around 6 pm) and the park had called in the afternoon to tell us to pick up our pass in a basket outside the main building. Easy peasy and much appreciated. We loved walking a trail the next morning.
