Third Floor Gallery is a charitable gallery dedicated to contemporary photography. Currently undergoing an extension to incorporate two gallery spaces, Third Floor displays large solo and group exhibitions by emerging and internationally renowned photographers, hosts talks and slideshows, and organises workshops.
Show more...The photographers working at Third Floor Gallery provided invaluable support in our International youth exchange project ent. "Youth Expression Through Images" which took part in July 2011 with youth from Iceland, Poland and Wales. Not only did Third Floor Gallery help our group with the basics of photography, but they also offered plenty of guidance, knowledge and inspiration. In they end, they helped us choose the best shots and got them printed for our special Showcase at the Atrium. Our visit to the Gallery itself was also very inspiring for the youth - many of them caught a real bug for photography and have been busy with photography ever since. Third Floor Gallery is well worth a visit and the staff are all just brilliant!
Show more...As is the way in this modern world one suspects things which appear to be too good to be true, in the case of TFG I've been met with friendliness and encouragement and wish it had been in existence 20 years ago.
Suspicions completely unfounded.
Wonderful place to see contemporary documentary photography! I have see exhibitions of:
David Hurn, Rob Hornstra, Tomas Van Houtryve, Sergey Chilikov, Laura El - Tantawy and many More.
You can also have a look through great collection of photography books, and also to by them.
The biggest attraction and always spectacular are each new exhibition opening! Or may be if you have a portfolio you should come and join stand-up-slide-show?
Third floor gallery put on fantastic shows of brilliant photography from us and coming photographers and established names. That they do this with no little enthusiasm, effort and humour should be applauded and heralded. So, if you're down at the bay why not pop in for a coffee and some fantastic pictures? These guys show how friendly and accessible all galleries should be.
Highly recommended.
This gallery is well worth seeking out (it's a bit hidden away) and well worth climbing several flights of stairs for. Not only will you benefit from the cardio-vascular workout but the quality of the work, show after show since they opened a little over a year ago, has been of a uniformly high standard. The staff are approachable and they have a selection of books to browse and buy. It's free to get in but a donation is welcome and, as the team that run it pretty much keep it going through their goodwill and that of a selection of ad hoc patrons, supporters and volunteers, they really need that support. This is an excellent enterprise that reflects the diverse culture of photographic interest in south Wales and in the quality of the national and international programming that confirms the intense vibrancy of documentary practice in the modern age.

If you are interested in photography, don't miss the third floor gallery. It hosts some of the more interesting photographers, both new and established, and ploughs it's own furrow , away from the established corporate world. This also extends to it's location- three floors up on the corner of Bute street in Cardiff Bay (above the taxi office). It is worth the effort to seek it out, and to support it, as it's run with the help of volunteers. Unlike most other galleries, it's also welcoming.
