Hurst green a great place to walk .
Visits places to stay , walk, shop and eat .
A little gem of a walk through Brungerley Park and Cross Hill Limestone Quarry. This 1.5 mile walk featuring some 20 sculptures is just a mile from Clitheroe along the side of the river Ribble. The surface is all hard surfaced so it can be undertaken in normal shoes.
Show more...We started a 5 mile circular river walk at the P&D car park on Edisford Road, opposite the Pool. Walking away from Clitheroe, you quickly end up on the riverside path, and the view is breathtaking, of both the river, and Pendle Hill. Eventually, you have to emerge onto a road that takes you past the recycling centre, but after about 1/2 mile, you cross a piece of land at the side of a farm, and you are then along side the river again. Some styles and connecting bridges between fields are hard to find, so a decent OS map is desirable. We eventually reached the B6246 Mitton Road, where we used the bridge to cross the river walking up hill. Just before the Three Fishes Restaurant, you turn right into Church Lane, where you pass a Medieval church. You go round a left hand bend, and after a short time there is a track on the right hand side, which takes you cross country towards Clitheroe. Again, some styles are difficult to locate, but the route is shown on a decent map. Eventually the route brings you out on the B6243 New Lane, were you turn right and walk town to Edisford Bridge. There is a pub just before the bridge, and it shares it's name. We stopped for lunch there and it was fabulous, and dog friendly too. After lunch, a short walk took us across the bridge, and back to the P&D. A fantastic walk, with stunning views.
Show more...I came to Clitheroe to do two walks in the area and it was well worth the trip. I did two walks and only wish I had time to do a third walk. The walks I started in Clitheroe, had incredible scenery and were mostly well marked. The walks did take me longer than the maps suggest-- 3-4 hours each, but perhaps I was stopping for photographs and to check the maps more than most people would. The heritage hayfields and scenes sheep in the pastures, as well as the beautiful river, will stay in mind for a long time. This was a great weekend escape from Manchester.
Show more...Accommodation was excellent. Totally spotless. Well equipped. Beautiful views and walks. Pub within walking distance lovely food and wine. Dogs are welcome in the accommodation and in the pub. Nearby fast food outlets and a very well stocked best one supermarket.
On returning in the evening all the huts are lit along each separate walk way. There is good quality table and chairs outside plus a fire pit.
Can definitely recommend. I will be returning. Owners are friendly and very welcoming. There is a small shop at reception for emergency items. Phone signal and reception are excellent. Bed is very comfy.
We visited clitheroe lovely old town feel about it. Also majestic so I did a bit of wine tasting. You would not regret a visit. Price is good considering the quality of the hut. I'm not a camping person. The luxury you feel here is perfect for reluctant camper/glamper.
This was an absolutely wonderful walk. I totally recommend it. Takes about 3-4 hours but goes by very quickly as you take in all the beauty and history. The river and forests seem to come alive as we saw fresh water salmon jumping out of the water and the river and streams meandering along. The weather was kind and sunny which helped a lot. There are a few places to stop and sit and take in the views.
Show more...We went for a hike around the area, starting and finishing at Spring Wood picnic site. The area is green and beautiful, but without any one stunning feature (no mountain, lake or waterfall to really anchor the memory). We had lunch by the River Calder, chatted to the sheep and strolled through the lovely village of Whalley on the way back to the car.
Show more...We spent the weekend in a glamping pod on a small farm site not far from Clitheroe. Booked through Wigwam holidays. The site was wonderful. With facilities for children and even a hot tub available with one of the pods. They were even some that were dog friendly. Views across the valley, a walk down to the river. Great base for exploring. The valley itself has some much to offer in walking, pretty villages, scenic drives or even on a nice hot day a swim in the river. Some beautiful eateries, pubs, coffee shops are also on offer. Something for everyone.
Show more...This was our first time in Glamping pods, or Wigwams and I think we've been spoiled. The small site is ideally located, surrounded by fields and sheep and a short stroll down to the river. The pods are really well equipped, comfy and the tables and fire pits outside made for perfect star gazing. It's only a walk through the field to the pub or a short drive to Whalley or other quaint villages. Pendle hill looms in the distance and it feels like you've stepped into English countryside at its best, only in style and comfort. Jane and Martyn are perfect hosts, there if you need them, but discreet and completely unobtrusive. Our party travelled from London, Newcastle, Bedford and Wigan and we all agreed it was a perfect spot to meet up. We will be back, thank you!

First time staying in a glamping pod and visiting the Ribble valley.
Show more...The glamping pod was very clean and comfortable.
There was a large field with a goal and some footballs which was welcomed by my two sons
The fire pit was used every night to cook our BBQ food and toast marshmallows with a lovely sunset
We were fortunate to have glorious hot weather and we used the river 800m walk from the campsite to cool off.
We visited Ribchester on our bikes which was 3miles away and had an ice cream by the river
We also climbed up Pendle hill which was a steep challenge.
The owners,Martyn and Anna were so welcoming and gave assistance when my son had a puncture and gave us a repair kit.
Overall the site, owners and surrounding areas was outstanding and not only will we like to come back, we have also recommended this to friends and family to enjoy this experience.
