Fort Harrison State Park
This 1700-acre park is chock-full of activities and history, housing a former World War II prisoner-of-war camp. Recreation includes fishing, bicycle trails, walking and jogging trails, horse trail rides and hayrides, picnicking and a nature center. I have been a hiker for nearly 15 years at Fort Harrison State Park and the trails are very nice. There are several multiuse park trails that allow both bikers and hikers, and one trail that is for hikers only. Although most bikers I have encountered over the years have operated courteously and safely on these trails, this summer I have had three dangerous encounters with bikers who were traveling on the Lawrence Trail at high rates of speed (30+ mph) and narrowly missed colliding with me. Today I was almost hit by a high-speed biker who did not see me and was not able to stop in time, and narrowly slid past me on my right. In addition to the known lack of forward visibility on these trails in summertime, a heavy rain last night left the entire trail damp and muddy in a number of places, which predictably increases the danger of a high-speed collision with a hiker. I have reported these dangerously reckless bikers to the park before, and I reported this latest incident today to the ranger at the gate. If the park administration cannot correct these unsafe biking practices someone is going to get badly hurt. Sad to say I will not be hiking these trails again, and I do not recommend mixed use trails in this park for hiking, with special concern for families with small children and elderly hikers, until safe and courteous biking practices resume. Thank you.

Saddle Barn horse ride is terrible now!
Expect to stand in front of their window for over 30 mins, nobody will say a word to you! Even they walk by you, they will not make any eye contact whatsoever. When you ask for any help, their reaction is “what!” Seems like they had enough with this job and hate it so much they don’t wanna speak a word on the job!
The two grumpy employees really love their phone, don’t make them get off it, or they will make sure you know that they don’t like you!
Tip sign all around the fence, windows, doors, they made sure you need to leave tips before you go!
Go somewhere else!

**Please note - this review is NOT toward Fort Harrison State Park. The park is beautiful and clean; one of our favorite Indy hiking places.
Hoosier Trail Rides has become terrible. Fortunately, we went a couple of years ago, so my daughter and I received instruction and tips then. This time, the two people working barely spoke and made zero eye contact. The only thing the 'guide' said the entire time was at the beginning. "Right for right, left for left, don't let your horse eat." Seriously, that was all he said the entire 30 minute trip. He did not engage whatsoever. He was on his phone. He didn't tighten the saddle on one of the horses and the saddle slid under the horse as it was going up a slight hill and the woman fell off her horse. The 'guide' was clearly annoyed because he had to get off his phone.
Hoosier Trail Rides has gone way down hill. Service is horrible, the ride was boring, and they are not taking care in the work to keep riders safe.
