This three-towered fortress was built in 1452 on the Bosphorus to protect the narrow waterway from advancing ships.

great architecture and rich history. I visited the castle with my wife and one year old infant and unfortunately the baby strollers were not allowed inside the castle.
But no regret visiting the attraction as we enjoyed the view and the massive castle. after that we enjoyed the sea side walkway beside the castle.
I visited in October during the pandemic so I did anticipate some would be closed off, it was and I still felt it was a place well Worthy of a visit.
There is quiet a lot of walking involved here, you can get some fabulous views if your prepared to walk all the way to the top for nothing but a view point.
It had a very historical feel and it was quiet nice just lounging on the benches at one of the view points, this was a spot where everyone was taking pictures.
After your done here take a walk along the sea front they have some great restaurants close by.
Nothing by way of a snack shop inside abs
It can be thirsty work with the walking, therefore take your own.
Really impressive construction from 15 century. Amazing view on Bosphorus. Come and have a look if you have seen all other more traditional sights in Istanbul . Historical value is remarkable - it’s been erected just in 4 months! Started as soon as Konstantinopol was seized by Turks, I assume to prevent taking it back :)
Show more...It was okay, that’s the best way to describe it. Everything is under renovation, you cannot climb any towers or get on top of any high areas as they’re closed. The place is full of historic stuff and has amazing views here and there, but unfortunately it still needs lots of renovation before it’s open. Definitely worth the 30 liras but make sure to wear good shoes as the ground is very slippery.
Show more...The whole fortress is under restoration and therefore about 80% of the area cannot be entered and most of the towers and walls are covered.
The experience was quite disappointing and it would have been better to close the whole fortress completely until the restoration work is finished.
As long as the restoration work is not completed, it’s not worth a visit. Better safe your time and money and go somewhere else in the meantime.
This is about a forty five minute bus ride from Taksim Square. Highly recommend coming and making an afternoon or day of it. You can visit some of the other neighbourhoods and tourist attractions along the shores of the Bosphorus. Bebek and Ortakoy are lovely. The entrance fee to the fortress is cheap. There are information boards in English as well with some historical facts. The views are stunning. Not a difficult walk to the top. You can choose how far up you want to walk. Very quick. Even lower down the views are stunning. Quiet. Most tourists don't bother but I would definitely recommend it.
Show more...Gardens are lovely and some nice trees and shrubs and nice view over bhosphorous. But yes all towers are undergoing refurbishment. Its 100 tl entrance fee. I imagine when towers open the fee will increase. Would have been better if towers were open
Show more...Rumeli Fortress itself is neat, but unfortunately when we visited today, we were not able to go up into the towers due to restoration. I understand that this is necessary, but we still had to pay the full admission price. We still walked around for awhile and there were some good views. The area around Rumeli is very lovely. There is a great boardwalk type area right by the blue waters of the Bosphorus. There were lots of lovely open restaurants to enjoy the great weather.
Show more...This site is definitely worth visiting! Located right on the water with views of Faith Sultan Mehmet Köprüsü bridge, this fortress stands out amongst the surrounding modern architecture.
We spent about 1 hour walking around the inside. Cool views from inside the fortress looking out at the water (can see in attached photos). Also lovely to see from outside the fortress!

It is another all in one spots in Istanbul. A one of the most important historic castles of Turkish that enabled Turkish to conquer İstanbul from Byzantyn empire. It is by the bosphorus with a great view of istanbul. There are many restaurants, cafes outside of the castle famous with breakfasts. Also in front of it, there is a long walking path by the boshorus. Parking, traffic is a problem so it is better to visit in weekdays or very early in weekends.
