Famed architect Sinan built this majestic structure for one of the greatest rulers of the Ottoman Empire. Although this mosque is less ornate, there are many similarities between it and the Hagia Sophia since the same architect was responsible for both.
Show more...We went through the grand bazaar to the mosque which took up about 15 mins walking. Locals helped us find the mosque along the way. When we arrived outside we heard the beautiful call to prayer. Security and guides were very welcoming and spoke English to give us details on the history of the mosque. The is also free literature in many languages inside available to everyone. In the garden you get to see some brilliant see views.
Show more...The interior of Suleymaniye mosque is more expansive more spacious and more welcoming for visitors than the Blue Mosque. Truly beautiful grounds inside and outside. Very quiet and peaceful experience with less visitors and definitely more slow paced and meditative than Blue mosque. The tombs next to the mosque are a nice side visit and spend some time taking in the views of the golden horn just outside the mosque.
Show more...We got off at laleli university tram stop, not grand bazaar. It was a gentle incline up to the mosque.
Check prayer times before you go so you're not stuck outside as guests can't enter the mosque itself during prayers.
Visitors can explore the grounds during prayers, so you'll have something to do whilst they're finishing.
The sherbet man (dressed in traditional attire) seems nice until he charges 14 lira for a cup of juice. Rip off.
Well worth the trek considering half of the Blue Mosque is covered for renovations.
Tucked in between lanes about 8 mins walk away fro the Grand Bazaar, this is a classic mosque with large green lawns. Beautiful views of the city from the mosque grounds. It really warmed the heart to see that a few dogs were allowed to roam the mosque grounds without anyone causing a big fuss - they were just lying peacefully on the grass, taking in the nice afternoon sun. The mosque interior was not large but classically beautiful with domes and chandeliers, just not as intricate and elaborate as those of the Blue Mosque. A lovely visit if you are in the area but not necessarily a must-do.
Show more...I don't know much about the muslim religion, but I can say it was a special experience to visit this mosque and witness the architecture! This building is so pristine and beautiful, it's hard to believe how old it is (dating back to the 16th century.) We visited on a Saturday morning and there were a few tour groups but it was not too crowded. There is a pretty nice view of the city from this hillside as well!
Show more...Unless you are going there for prayer or as a history nerd, there is no point visiting this mosque in the status it is now. Everything except a few slivers of the roof is covered by a white tarp which is part of the restoration efforts. While restoration is great, I cannot recommend any tourist to visit this place because they will see literally nothing inside. You’d be better off spending time going to another mosque in Istanbul or the Hagia Sofia. For these reasons, while the restoration is going on, I cannot recommend this place.
Show more...Ι believe it is the most important mosque in Istanbul. Its courtyard and garden with a view are famous. Also, the inside of the mosque makes you feel complete peace, regardless of religion. I highly recommend it.
Also don't forget to see the family graves in the adjacent building.
I was here part of a group tour and so am not aware of the entrance fees. But this mosque is still under renovation and many parts of this mosque is covered with drawings of what it would look like after renovation. I would still recommend to pay this mosque a visit.
Show more...One of the master pieces of architecture of human kind but the master architect Mimar Sinan's saw the mosque as a semiskilled-artifact of his professional life. Even more importantly, a place of endless peace, divine love and history. It has a spacious yard with a startling sea view of the Golden Horn and the Bosphorous.

The Suleimani Mosque is one of the hallmarks of Istanbul. It is instantly recognisable on the horizon from far across the Golden Horn, as well as the Fatih district.
Show more...The architecture is mesmerising, as one would expect from the inspiring Mimar Sinan, for Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent.
I would recommend that every visitor to Istanbul comes here, regardless of faith. Please do be mindful that this is a functioning place of worship and modest dress is required!
I'd also recommend visiting the royal burial ground within the vicinity of the mosque, to pay your respects and possibly say a prayer for their Majesties and Royal Highnesses.
