Cağaloğlu Hamamı

4835 Reviews

Cagaloglu Hamami (Turkish Bath) was built in 1741 to provide revenue for both the library of Mahmut I, the Ottoman Sultan of the time, in Hagia Sophia Kulliye (social complex) and for Hagia Sophia Mosque. Architectural plans of the bath was designed by Suleyman Aga, the architect of the court, and the bath was built by Abdullah Aga. Before the construction of Cagaloglu Turkish Bath, the palace built by Nevsehirli Damat Ibrahim Pasa stood on the same location. The palace was destroyed by a fire in 1740, and construction of the Cagaloglu Bath started soon after. The bath has both historical and architectural importance as it is the last great Turkish bath constructed before Sultan Mustafa III prohibited the construction of great baths in 1768, due to the increasing water and firewood needs of the city. Cagaloglu Bath is one of the largest double Turkish baths of Istanbul. Baroque style novelties, a rarely seen quality in Ottoman architecture.

I really really enjoyed my time here. The venue is stunning and the Service is just amazing. the place was super clean and we even got some discount by haggling abit on reception. When you enter they give you a private room with a key and some stuff to wear/use e.g disposable underwear and slippers. It’s an amazing experience especially if it’s your first time doing a hamam as it can give you anxiety thinking about it. Although you see other people everyone minds their own business and just enjoys the experience. Getting scrubbed, head washed and having a full body massage was just amazing and I highly recommend.

Thank you ESIN. FELIX. And GULSEVEN :)

My hammam experience was absolutely fantastic. I had the pleasure of receiving a bubble massage and aromatherapy massage from Suzan. The staff were overall very friendly but Suzan went the extra mile to make me feel relaxed and comfortable. Service is impeccable and would recommend for a first time Hamam goer in turkey if you are looking for somewhere to make you feel relaxed. Thanks so much!

I really enjoyed my time here. The venue is stunning. Service is impeccable and it was the cleanest place I’ve been in yet. When you enter they break down the prices clearly and give you a private room with a key. It’s an amazing experience. I truly enjoyed the bubble massage. I got the Tip-Top special which costed 60 Euro. The place is dripping in marble and Turkish architecture. The place is immaculate. I will go again before I leave Istanbul!

In Istanbul, one of the must do activity is to experience Turkish bath. There are various places one can get the experience but to experience an authentic Turkish bath I would recommend Cagaloglu Hamami it’s the oldest Place. I had my service from a native Istanbul guy named Yahya. It was such a good experience. They would provide you a private room in order for you to change you your clothes and keep your personal belongings. I felt as if I am celebrity. As a whole it was a wonderful experience and I recommend to do it right before you travel out of the country.

There are several hammams in Istanbul, and the experience changes from one to the next. In this hammam there is impeccable service, from the welcome, to the personal cabin and the fact that it is equipped with many amenities such as body and face cream, comb, perfume, toothbrush.
The interiors are beautifully designed and there is an atmosphere of total relaxation and silence.
When you enter the hexagonal room you feel as if you are going back in time to a past life.
Ipek took care of me, washing and massaging me with love and a smile, I felt pampered. The energetic scrub was followed by a relaxing foam massage. We took the 90 euro package with the final foot massage included. Tea is also served with almonds and other Turkish sweets.
I also tried another hammam during my stay in Istanbul, but I highly recommend spending a little more and coming to this one, because for a few tens of euros more you get a very high level of service.

I wanted the real experience, not just a spa day. This was it. The place has the 300 years old Ottoman atmosphere with modern Turkish Bath treatment. I tipped $10 so the whole experience cost about $90. This easily half what it might cost in the USA and you get the REAL Turkish historical experience. There are cheaper choices, but tis is the best and all you need. I wouldn't even get the more expensive ones.

The place is divided by men or women and I suspect the female experience is similar. The location is absolutely authentic and beautiful. It was thrilling to experience the cultural and historical elements of the visit.

You are greeted by men in snappy suits and ties. The choices are pretty simple and very reasonable. I had (from the website) "Cağaoğlu Hamam special service. 15 minutes steam bath and 20 minutes of bubble massage

Unlike some spas, although I took a swim suit, you are asked to be completely naked. Some guys may be uncomfortable with this, but my experience was completely professional. I was at no time uncomfortable. You are given a thin towel to wrap around you - like a sarong. The technician helps you keep modest - he changed my wrap about five times. You are too busy to be seen naked by others and to see anybody naked. Your tech is at first dressed in kinda scrubs as he assists you. He strips down to the wrap to work on you, Do not let this stop you from this historical experience..

We were greeted by the staff with a late reservation, whereupon we booked "The Istanbul Dream," a Turkish bath package that encompassed a session of hot room rest, 10 minutes of body scrub on the hammam (the marble basin platform), and 20 minutes of a bubble bath massage. Erol, my hammam masseuse, was amazing. He performed massage techniques that I didn't know were possible for my body. The ritual from beginning to end was nothing short of a dream I felt reborn! Go and experience it for yourself and see what the buzz is all about.

Absolutely amazing service from the second you are greeted at reception to the end of the whole experience. At the beginning after filling out the registration form, you are provided with new slippers and a cloth which you can wrap around yourself throughout. I had opted for the ‘Ottoman Luxury Massage’ and was provided with my own personal masseuse Ferdi who would accompanied me and carried out all the treatments.

Each and every treatment in the ottoman massage was provided with an exceptional standard by Ferdi and would occasionally ask if I was ok throughout the service or if anything made me uncomfortable.

Water was provided through the experience along with some Turkish treats (Turkish tea, sherbet, Turkish delights, freshly cut fruit) and at the end of the service was provided with complimentary gifts.

My skin feels very soft and smooth and I left Cagaloglu Hamami feeling very relaxed and refreshed.

I found this place through reading the reviews on Trip Advisor and would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a top class Hammam in Istanbul.

Excellent service in a historical building close to Hagia Sophia. I bought the "Cagaloglu Hammam service", including Turkish sauna, scrub, foam massage and foot massage. My therapist Ali was very friendly and genuinely cared about the service he provided. He made sure that I get the most of each treatment and discreetly explained what he was doing. The overall service lasted about one and half hour, and I found it was the appropriate length to get to fully relaxed. I was also served refreshments between treatments.
I would like to give a suggestion to the hammam manager: have clients pay after the service instead of before. It is more elegant, and gives you an extra opportunity to market more services or goods before closing the bill.
I highly recommend this hammam and I will visit again next time I'm in Istanbul.

Having never experienced a Turkish bath, I entered with a slight amount of nervousness but was soon put at ease. All the staff were polite and professional, the experience that I had pre booked was explained to me and I was then introduced to the most amazing lady who was going to look after me for the next couple of hours.
To quote Tina Turner, Bahriye was “simply the best”. Her magic hands worked wonders on my very tired limbs (from far too much walking around Istanbul), I really didn’t want her foot massage to end, it was simply heavenly.
The whole experience was sheer perfection and completely faultless, from the first hello to the final gooodbye I felt as though I was the most important person to walk through their door.
If you are considering a Turkish bath, do not hesitate to venture into Cağaloğlu, I cannot recommend this establishment highly enough, it is without doubt paradise found.
