The park used to be the jewel in the crown of Cardiff's parks. Sadly, it is no longer a beautiful place to visit, as it is not being looked after properly: the lake is clogged up with mud, weeds, branches and rubbish, the surrounding paths ( including/especially those around the Wild Gardens) are bordered with brambles, stinging nettles and other undesirable weeds and overhanging branches, the flower beds look unkempt, most of the grassy areas are badly maintained, and there is a lot of discarded litter. I have walked my dog there nearly every day over the last ten years, and I have never seen it looking so neglected and unloved. Very sad!
Show more...Absolutely stunning in all weathers! Wether it’s cold and damp, or sunny and dry; it’s such a beautiful spot, that doesn’t feel like an inner city area!
There’s a gorgeous little tea room over looking the lakes, an amazing park for the children to play - which I’ve played in many times over the years. There’s also an ice cream van near the entrance gates (possibly the best ice cream I’ve ever had) a gorgeous walk around the lake and then of course the flower gardens.
There’s honestly something for everyone here!
Bird flu has put a stop to boats on the lake and covid removal of the swings for older children has been reversed. A shame to queue for them still.
A great play area for under fives and a few bits for the older ones.
Lovely rose garden although we missed their best.
Ice cream kiosk has excellent choices. Not to be missed
What a well kept and maintained park in the heart of Cardiff. Parking was easy and it was a pleasure to walk the whole way round the duck infested lake. There was a well used playground with plenty of families present and a lovely cafe where we had a refreshing cuppa. A nice experience.
Show more...Lots of space and beautiful gardens. Great for family activities and picnics. I would bring a picnic because I found the Nova Cafe awful and very overpriced. The greenhouse is worth a visit, there is a small charge to get in but it’s worth it. The turtles and different fish and happily enjoying the tropical environment. The park entry is free and if planned right, you could easily spend a full day here.

The cafe by the lake is brilliant and is also open in the evening.

The barrage on the lake we like most.

Show more...Very pretty park with a lake full of bird wildlife. Keep an eye out for Canada goose! The Scott memorial is located at one end of the lake and it is very interesting and lovely. It makes a nice 5km loop run - all the way around the park (south end) and lake (north end).

a visit to the lake is always a welcome change, although it is not as good as it once was. The silt has been allowed to build up around the islands, causing part of the lake to be cordoned off. The cafe is good value as is the ice cream booth. Rose gardens are nice and there is a play area for the children.
