It's fascinating to see a fine sculpture of an ancient god (the sea god of the Tuatha Dé Danann) in such a prominent place. A reminder of the rich mythic heritage of Ireland. The views are spectacular. The drive up is relatively easy and only sometimes narrow and the road ends in a paved parking lot just a few feet from the statue.

Great view from the top. The trip up was a beautiful drive and you could see for miles and miles. We all got pics with the statue.

Worth the detour from the coast road, up a narrow mountain road to see this striking statue and admire the view from a height.
#Ample safe parking and good steps up to statue.

We hadn't been up to Gortmore for several years to see Manannan Mac Lir but on a day when most of the beaches were crowded, making a walk difficult, it was a nice alternative.
There were a few visitors enjoying the magnificent views so maintaining social distancing was easy.

A little off the beaten track, but this statue and scenic overlook between Downhill and Benone is so worth visiting.

Small monument but there is a fantastic view from this point overlooking the farmland and beaches below and then across to Donegal/Inishowen.

This somewhat undistinguished sculpture with a tenuous connection to the site commands the highest point of a magnificent natural arena and seems like gilding the lily. The views of Magilligan's great sandy peninsula and the blue hills of Donegal from Gortmore are worthwhile making a journey here on their own account. The omnipresent breeze may deter travelers from long stays though they might also catch a glimpse of intrepid hang gliders doing their thing nearby.

Perched high above the sea, the Celtic sea god Menannan Mac Lir overlooks his watery kingdom, from Magilligan Point and Donegal to the West and along the entire North Antrim coast to Fair Head to the East. In clear weather he can also see some of the Inner Hebridean islands of Scotland and part of the Scottish mainland as well.
