Portcoon Jetty is not far from the Giants Causeway and is a nice scenic walk down to the water. Enjoy the beautiful less crowded coastal area.

At the risk of making this secret no longer secret, you should know there is a hidden cave on the east side of Portcoon Jetty, called Portcoon Cave, and it is utterly awesome. A true highlight of our trip to Northern Ireland. Google it and see that I'm not making this place up.

Take the marked trail to the west of the Giant's Causeway hotel toward Portcoon Jetty, and take the grassy path down to the jetty (the giant wooden pillar sticking out of the rocks into the water). It looks like there is a crack in the cliff to the left-side, but don't be deceived. The cave is on the right-side (east). Scramble over the rocks and the small hill and you'll find a wide, dark cave opening. Explore inside, and you'll find the cave opens up into a deeper passage with a view of the roaring sea in front of you. Beautiful. Awesome. And made even better that we were the only ones around. Not even the staff at the Giant's Causeway visitors center knew of this place.

We recommend bringing headlamps/flashlights and good shoes/boots with traction to help you not trip over the slippery rocks. We went at low tide, which is best for cave exploring. If you like adventuring and exploring, you must visit this place.

This area is a beautiful coastal area of Northern Ireland. It is interesting because the small island was used by fishermen to dry their salmon. They accessed it by boat or from ropes from land. The ropes were removed to prevent anyone entering the island. This led to a footbridge that is now a major tourist attraction because it is high above the ocean. A bit scary but can by done by people of all ages.

If you take the path to the left at giants causeway it will go past this place - it's also a beautiful walk to do with great views along the coast

Along the Coastal path from Portballintrae to the Giants Causeway, this little jetty is just off the path, a very tranquil spot, especially just before sunset

I had been doing the walk from Portbalitrae to giants causeway few years now and during those walks had been down at Portcoon jetty and seen the cave entrance but hadn't realised how extensive it was until managed to climb in with my 2 dogs and explore. Was not disappointed, its the biggest cave I've been in and loved the way it twisted to left and out to sea, the waves rolling in that point just added to the experience. Definitely worth the effort for visit.

Take I believe the green trail from the visitor center area of the causeway (walking away from the crowds, go left) and keep going until you go around the bend. You'll see the path down. Nice spot, and you'll likely have it all to yourself.

I saw this on Google Maps, though was not sure of how to get there. Head towards the causeway, take the path behind the hotel (facing the giants causeway) and follow this along the left. The path offers nice views and after about 20mins of easy walk you will come to point where the path dips down and you can either follow the path or take the slippery slope down to the jetty. This is worth a visit if you have nothing else to do. It is not amazing but is secluded and peaceful. There is not much to do other than take photos and then leave.
