Show more...Attended the show Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs which was great. Having attended the pantomime for the 21st year in a row it’s always entertaining and attended now by four generations. The Hippodrome as usual is a great venue and offers a good range of shows throughout the year
Show more...The Hippodrome audatorium has retained it's classic design and seats were sufficiently comfortable with enough leg room for my 6'2'' husband. Staff were efficient & helpful. A few more bar staff would be welcome as the queues were ridiculous. However, once purchased, interval drinks were easy to find. As is the norm with other city theatres, the drinks were expensive. The ladies' toilets ran out of soap & toilet tissue & the queues were so long we were worried that we would miss the next act. However the performance was stunning. Beautiful costumes & set. A stunning performance.
Show more...Staff were all so friendly and welcoming and you could tell they were excited and happy to be back at work. The place was electric really everyone was just so happy to be able to experience live Theatre again. We went to see Priscilla queen of the desert. Honestly this wasn't just Birmingham Hippodrome ready this was WestEnd at Birmingham Hippodrome. The cast we're all brilliant they all had a chance to shine from dancers singers the main cast. Everyone of them so talented and deserved the standing ovation. I could see and feel the emotion from the cast at the end again fully deserved the ovation. Birmingham Hippodrome may have been closed but opened back with a bang. I don't wear masks due to a medical reason but I was more than happy for a staff member to let me wear a layvard to inform others that I don't wear a mask. Thought this was a good idea and should come into place at other venues. Thank you for a brilliant evening and we can't wait to come back again. Ps we were sat Stalls second the back row X numbers 24 /25 they were slightly cheaper seats but the view was spot on. I've uploaded a photo to give you an idea. We booked last minute and would happily sit in these seats again but next time we're try and aim for The Circle of closer in the stalls. Nothing wrong with our seats it's just what we would of chosen if it wasn't sold out ( which I love for the performers ). Also very clean throughout toliets are also very clean. Can't find a fault as there wasn't one. Keep it up Birmingham Hippodrome. We look forward to returning
Show more...17of us went for the matinee performance last Wednesday. This is our 6/7th visit, we go in January to get rid of the after Christmas blues. Once again didn't disappoint, you go in feeling a bit fed up and come out after two hours with you ribs and jaws aching from laughing so much. The cast this year, with the resident comedian, Matt Slack just had the edge on previous years. Fabulous afternoon. Definitely be back next year
Show more...Goldilocks and the Three Bears Pantomime at Birmingham Hippodrome
I went to the Hippodrome Birmingham on 19th January 2022. The show was really good, there was Magician who done tricks trough the show, a man who was good with Diabolo (They sometimes called Chinese yo-yo), Motorcycle stunts in a large ball, Trapeze artist, tight rope walking. Matt Slack was really funny, and Tipton Doreen with her black country accent was funny, Jason Donovan played the baddie he played the part well, Samantha Dorrance who played Goldilocks, and a lot more going on, It was worth every penny. They said in the pantomime roll up roll up for the greatest show, and they were right.
Absolutely hilarious!!! Excellent all round cast. Lovely costumes and very high energy throughout. Pantomine with everything..dragons and snow!
Lesley Joseph wonderful baddie, Joe McElderry great singing voice, along with Faye Brookes and Jac Yarrow. Matt Slack,Doreen Tipton and Andrew Ryan absolutely bonkers! Flawless excellent dancing.Seven Dwarves and backing dancers all good. Be warned, you ache from head to toe at the end from laughing and leave the theatre on a high. Matt Slack you are simply brilliant and with Doreen Tipton alongside you should carry a health warning. Loved it! See you next year!
This year's panto was Snow white and the 7 dwarfs. We went as a family of 6, 4 adults and 2 children and the show catered for all ages. To get my two sons to laugh is no mean feat and this was accomplished many times thru the performance. Matt Slack hats off to you every year you put endless amounts of energy and fun into your performance. Though a bit pricey we have already booked for this year's panto.
Show more...My husband and I visited the Van Gogh Alive Experience yesterday which we were really looking forward to as we had been to another Van Gogh exhibition (in a church in Leicester), in March which had been amazing.
We drove nearly an hour to get to the Theatre, arrived before 2pm, as planned, to give us time to grab a coffee and a bite in their café before going into the exhibition. We were directed to the third floor where we stood in the entrance of the café for more than 15 minutes being completely ignored by the waiter and waitress on duty. There were a few empty tables when we arrived, and even more became available as people left (who walked past us) as we waited and waited and waited. Eventually, as we no longer had enough time to be served by the inefficient staff even if they had allowed us in, we gave up and went to the exhibition.
After we left the Hippodrome, we went to the Café Milano Patisserie in the Arcadian centre, where we were welcomed by friendly, efficient staff and were quickly served excellent coffee and cakes. We will not try to use the Hippodrome’s café or restaurant again.
We thought the Hippodrome exhibition would be better than the previous one we had attended, but to be honest, we were disappointed. Whilst more of Van Gogh’s artwork was shown in the main area’s presentation, there was extremely limited seating for the 40-minute programme, and so many people allowed in that social distancing was practically impossible (see photo).
If you haven’t been to a Van Gogh exhibition before, it would be worth going, but as I said previously, we were disappointed by comparing it to Leicester who are still offering the Virtual Reality Experience which was truly outstanding!
We came here to watch the play that goes wrong.
My partner booked us the VIP lounge before and during the performance.
We had a bottle of champagne (Laurent perrier) and lovely table snacks including olives, crisps and chilli cashews.
What a beautiful start to our date, really enjoyed the experience with the best company, the lady who was serving us named Linda was great, you can tell she really loves what she does, either that or she needs a part in one of the plays as she was a fantastic actress!
Thanks for a great time and thanks for checking on me after I struggled with a piece of cashew stuck in my throat!!
Only one negative was that on our way in they were opening up the doors to the theatre, there was a long line all filtering through one door and even though we were there before many of the people who were going through, we decided to wait until the next door was open to avoid being stuck in a small space with people not socially distancing.
As he opened the door, the security guard scoffed at us "Don't know why you're so keen to come in this door, they all lead to the same place" which I thought was a really odd and rude comment to make seen as though so many people were trying to cram through the first door opened all at once causing a queue and unsafe space.
All in all still a good experience.

Theatre staff were lovely and couldn’t be more help. The production was brilliant although ballet isn’t my thing - the trip was a gift for my adult son who enjoyed it immensely.
Show more...But
As part of the gift I booked dinner at the theatre. Never again. The food was good, not outstanding, the bill wasn’t. £93 was very steep for what we got and we did not feel it was value for money.
