The Museum Of Curiosities

Here at The Museum Of Curiosities we house many haunted items and oddities from around the world, including shrunken heads, Voodoo skulls, cursed Dybbuk boxes, the Devils toy box and much much more. Also see the last remaining Victorian hearse in existence, on which the handle has been seen to move all by itself (video evidence is here in the venue).

Wonderfully weird and eerie, great alternative thing to do in Nottingham; will definitely be recommending to friends.

Tour guide added to the already creepiness of the building, but knew just how much to say to impressionable early teens (and yes they did have a sleepless night afterwards).

The cold and dank cinema, complete with old smell (or was that just baking potatoes) is the perfect home for some very creepy exhibits.

So much to take in on one visit, leaves your mind boggling and questioning what you have seen - sure there will be a return visit.

Excellent experience, they’ve made great use of the space they have at the new site in the Hopkinson’s basement. Although it’s small we got an hour out of the museum looking at all of the interesting things they had on display which come with detailed descriptions and genuinely interesting stories, some which gave us goosebumps because they were so creepy!

The presentation and layout is impressive and we liked the backing music as you go around. Highlights for me were a paranormal encounter after taking a photo of a doll that can supposedly manipulate cameras - my next photo was distorted and we could clearly see what looks like a face in it. We also liked the exorcism setup with the real exorcist bed and exorcism kit, along with the doll’s house experiment and mirror room. I don’t think we actually managed to look at the thousands of things on display there so will be returning, and we understand from the friendly staff that new things are added all the time.

Highly recommend if you’re into the paranormal, and even if you aren’t there’s something for you here - be it other oddities or even film props!

Easy to get to from Nottingham town centre, we caught the No 45 bus and it drops off nearly outside the museum.
We arrived and had to wait about 10 minutes for the next tour.
Our tour guide was brilliant, she told us about all of the items in each room and how each room effects her and her colleagues.
It was spooky and the age and smell of the picture house increased that feeling.
We went as part of my daughters fiancé birthday and he absolutely loved it.
Would thoroughly recommend a trip here.

Having been several times to the museum when it was in it’s previous location of an old haunted cinema I was interested to see it in its new home. It was a great experience, even more exhibits to see now. I particularly like the layout of the new location. My friend had come down from Todmorden in East Yorkshire especially to visit. She thought it was excellent, so much to see and take in. I am particularly drawn to haunted dolls and to learn about their history. There’s plenty of those at the museum! It was also a treat seeing some authentic props used in various scary movies. Having done my own paranormal investigating for over 20 years and previously working in TV as a researcher on paranormal programmes including “Beyond Belief” with Sir David Frost for ITV my appetite has certainly been whet again to get more involved following a trip to this museum. Being a Nottingham resident I am thrilled we have this superb collection in our city. I shall definitely be making return visits and would highly recommend the museum to anyone with an interest in the paranormal or even just a curiosity to see something a bit different. Great stuff!

Visited on Thursday with my sister, mum & nieces . Very strange place full of spooky , creepy items. Staff & owner very welcoming and lovely , this is a great place if your interested in paranormal. Only takes about 1/2 an hour to look round but worth talking to staff on their own experiences at the end , plus they let my sister hold a real skull if that floats your boat. Also take a 20p piece to use on museum equipment on entry.

A lot of steps though and no disabled access plus parking is a nightmare so better to park near train station and walk as sat nav takes you down bus lanes which are new and we incurred a £70 fine.

Finally had the chance to visit and was not disappointed, travelled over 2 hours and was so worth it, I loved the fact we could walk around alone so we could read about each item and area at our own pace, the building itself is very eerie and the items fit in well, the chapel that holds the dybbuk box really stood out to me and I did feel a sense of somebody standing behind me, the rest of the visit was just as interesting, once we walked through the door to the main area the first thing I noticed was the architecture absolutely stunning and with it being an old cinema there is a magnificent large screen with beautiful red curtains to keep it with its time, There was so much to look at in this area everything from haunted items, oddities and horror movie props and what makes it more amazing is that some of the film props were used in the actual movies, I also love the shrunken head so interesting.
The staff are so welcoming, friendly and informative
And extra measures are in place for covid to keep everybody safe.
I will definitely be visiting again with more friends and family.
Thank you so much for all the hard work that had obviously been done to make the visit as amazing as it was.

Decided to try something a bit different in Nottingham so ended up popping by this museum - it was a very interesting concept with many different rooms to go through - for what it is, I think they’ve done a good job! It’s not a stereotypical museum where everything is spaced out etc. so I wouldn’t recommend bringing a big bag and there are quite a few narrow/steep staircases so it would be hard to manoeuvre if you did have anything large with you but thankfully we didn’t have that issue. (Not a negative thing, just a heads up if you’re planning on going).

The woman behind the counter was absolutely lovely! She explained everything very clearly to us.

You aren’t allowed to take photos etc. so unable to show our experience but for the price it’s about 30-60mins you can spend in there, so good value for money!
