The Beatles Story

It makes sense that if you go to Liverpool, you go to at least one Beatles attraction and it seems that's what the people that run The Beatles Story are banking on. It's £17 if you pay full price (we got it as part of a deal with a bus ticket) and you can be done in little more than an hour.

I'd have expected far more memorabilia than there was (perhaps original Beatles/Sergeant Peppers' suits?) and it seemed hard at times to work out which order you were to do things in - despite exhibits being numbered! The audio guide was good but overall I was underwhelmed and felt there could have been far more. The lack of pretty much anything interactive was also a bit disappointing.

Not cheap but given the museums in Liverpool are free it didn't feel like we were constantly paying out so not really an issue. need a good couple of hours to give it justice. Lots to read and hear. Not full of interactive or gimmicky devices.

We visited early on a Tuesday morning in January, it was quiet there was plenty of space for us to walk around at our own speed. I’ve priced other people’s reviews when they visit during peak periods and can imagine it’s quite uncomfortable underground when it’s full and hot down there. We really enjoyed the audio commentary but it does get a little confusing as the display isn’t in numerical order in some places and we were baffled as to where we were supposed to be looking at a penny lane sign. Overall we would recommend- it took us about 1 hr 45 mins to walk around.

i was relatively excited about visiting while i was in liverpool, since i am a big fan of the beatles. however, i was sorely disappointed by the exhibitions. there was no mention of george martin, revolver or rubber soul. it was interesting to read about the items that were on display, however, i did find out later that the majority of them were replicas rather than original items.

i was also disappointed by the information on george, paul and ringo. although there was a section discussing their individual careers, most of that was dedicated to john although the others were all successful in their own way.

similarly, the lack of music in the museum makes the whole thing very tedious to walk around. music only begins to play nearer the end of the exhibition and it’s the same songs on repeat. it suggests that the establishment may not have the rights to their music?

all in all, you could probably learn and see more about the beatles from your own research. it was not worth the £18 per person and was rather disappointing, as someone who is a big fan of their music.

My knowledge of The Beatles prior to my visit to 'The Beatles Story' was limited to knowing their names, and a handful of their hits, crazy right? I always wondered why people liked them so much, this exhibition helped me understand and also inspired me to listen to all their music, much of which I already knew and loved.

There's lots of information to take in, about the entire history of the band. Great for fans, also good for people who just want to know a bit more, like myself.

Some side notes..

On arrival they hand you a headset to listen to, but there is also a lot to read, this combination is a bit confusing, pick one of them and stick to it. I prefer to read, others prefer to listen, if you did both you could be in there a long time.

Our visit was August 2020, a lot of things were open again but attractions like this need to be careful. They had lots of hand sanitiser and were insuring the equipment used was clean, but they did little to ensure social distancing, at one point there was about 10 of us in one small space because we were all trying to read the same things at the same time. Something a simple as staggering entries by a few minutes would easily solve this.

Great exhibition, I highly recommend it (unless you hate The Beatles)

A good exhibit, not fantastic like I expected. The queue was a bout 10 minutes to purchase my entry ticket and there is discount for NHS staff, just show your ID card.
The first 30/45 minutes is very crowded and there was no respect of Covid measures at all but then there were no rules in place so nothing wrong with that. However, if you are worried in large crowds then it isn't for you at this time.
It was slow going because there is so much to read or listen to if you took the audio guide which I believe was available in different languages. You just look at the exhibit number and key it in then listen.
It thins out crowd wise the further round you get but I would have like a bit more musical accompaniment as you went round, the only song I heard was Imagine in the white room.
It's interesting and if you are a music fan or Beatles fan I suggest you do not miss it

This is a very comprehensive exhibition of The Beatles story and if you are vaguely interested in their music I'd recommend a visit. At £16 it's not cheap but the audio guides are free and it gives you a real insight into The Fab Four's story including a recreation of the Cavern ClubGod that must have been a sweaty smelly venue in it's day.

.that ‘The Beatles Story’ is a beautifully laid out tour that’s not only wonderfully put together but really informative as well.
Would recommend going around nice and slowly to soak up the displays whilst using the headphones which compliment the tour really well.
My son and I visited on what would have been George Harrison’s 77th birthday and had a superb time seeing some authentic Beatles memorabilia, including George Harrison’s first guitar as well as a pair of John Lennon’s glasses.

From the entrance you are taken to then and beyond where you will see and hear who they are and the songs and music they gave us. You can see John's brilliant white grand piano, walk next door and Paul's multi coloured stand up belter. You will be taken to their pre Beatle days in Liverpool, travel on the Magical Mystery Tour, Shea Stadium and all the while listening and singing along with John, Paul, George and Ringo. There is so much more too much to script and taste. Exhausted, after giving your singing chords All you Need Is Love, you can peruse and take away your choice of goodies to give to those who unluckily have not been to be with The Beatles.

Definitely put this on your list if you're a big Beatles fan. Plenty of history and exhibits on display to see, and the audio guide is really fantastic as well as you're going around. This covers the early beginnings when John and Paul first met, leading right up until the end of the band. Very well done and really recommend.
