At Maritime Museum you can explore the history of the great port of Liverpool, with four floors of galleries: Seized! The Border and Customs uncovered; the Emigration gallery; Liverpool: World Gateway; the Titanic, Lusitania and Empress of Ireland gallery; the Battle of the Atlantic; the Art and the Sea Gallery; and the temporary exhibition space. The museum also includes t a café, shop and lecture theatre.
Show more...I spent the whole of my visit at the basement level going round the emigation and 'Seized' exhibitions. Both were very educational and I would recommend concentrating on them, or other specific exhibitions of your choice, rather than trying to see the whole museum in a single visit. Firends who were with me went to the Titanic exhibition and were very moved by it.
Show more...A fascinating insight into the liners and other shipping information.
A must see attraction for all the family, exhibitions and interactive activities to become involved in.
One floor is dedicated to Titanic, so if your have a keen interest with the ship, it's a must see.
The museum is free to enter however it does ask for a £5 donation which is well worth the visit.
The gift shop was closed unfortunately when we visited.
We wanted to go to this museum whilst visiting Liverpool for the first time. We were welcomed in by staff wearing masked, we had our masks on as it requested visitors to wear them. Had all our details taken, by the staff member. Started to visit the 2nd floor, our visit was then totally spoilt and utterly ruined by selfish arrogant people not wearing masks, hugely dissatisfied, this is why this plague will return, not impressed, should be closed down if this is normal
Show more...An excellent museum, especially for anyone who has, or has had, relatives that are/were sailors. The items were well displayed, the exhibits so interesting and the museum so large that we underestimated the time that we would need to get round and we had to return the following day. The presentation on the second day that we went was about the role of the Wrens during the second world war. Delivered by an actor in uniform playing one of those Wrens it was well worth seeing.
Show more...Great visit to the museum, especially as they currently have an exhibit focusing on the Titanic - what happened, who was on board, and the inquisition after.
There is also a section on the sinking of the Lithuania by a German U-boat, as well as the merchant navy during WWII.
There are excellent and detailed models and dioramas of ships, large and small.
Entry is free, but you encouraged to donate 5 pounds or more.
A really interesting museum that's absolutely full of exhibits.
The only negative thing was the guy who collared us to answer a 'short' survey about the museum. It wasn't short at all and the questions included things like how much we were spending on various things, my job title etc. It seemed intrusive and unnecessary and kind of killed the good mood we were in before we left.
At the moment the Titanic display is closed for refurbishment. This is a bit of a disappointment but may give us a reason to visit again.
For those who have an interest in history there are some fantastic stories being shared here. In particular we were interested by the presentation given on the Battle of the Atlantic. However, our pre-teen children found them quite difficult to access and it took a lot on my part to maintain their interest.
This is a great place to visit if you have time to read the information boards and to take in the stories. It might be worth visiting without the kids and then come back again with them so you can help them to be enthusiastic. This would probably be a different story once the Titanic section opens again.
We spent approximately 2 hours at the Maritime Museum. On entry, which was free we were greeted by friendly and helpful staff (there is a recommended donation of £5, but no pressure to donate). Great displays and loads of interesting maritime facts and stories. A must see in Liverpool.
Show more...For me the section dedicated to the history of the slave trade was informative, upsetting and really gave perspective.
Very nicely curated museum, interesting from top to bottom. Free to get in but £5 donation is a small price to pay for such touching history and detail

Our city-staycation included a few days of play in Liverpool. We'd been recommended to visit the Maritime Museum beside Albert Dock. We did and were not disappointed.
Show more...It's an easy going venue with something for everyone and covering centuries of history recent and way back.
The general upkeep was good, a handful of lamps out but, apart from that, the exhibits were well displayed with a good amount of background information.
Im no historian but felt both informed, engaged and really pleased to have visited I highly recommend any visitor to the museum (and only a £5.00 donation is requested, card or cash). Elevated viewsof the Albert Dock are also possible from inside the top floors.
