Blackpool Transport is the proud operator of Blackpool's £100 million tramway. The four year project, which concluded in April 2012, saw the replacement of 11 miles of track, creation of a new depot and introduction of a fleet of 16 state-of-the-art trams. It has never been easier to travel across Blackpool and the Fylde coast, with faster journey times, easy access and integrated Blackpool1 tickets that give you unlimited use of the trams and Blackpool Transport bus network (excluding Heritage Trams). Our frequent and reliable tram service provides an energy efficient mode of transport connecting residents and visitors to all major leisure, retail and businesses along the 11 mile stretch of coastline between Starr Gate and Fleetwood. The trams have level boarding and step-free interiors and designated disabled/pushchair areas making them accessible to all. Our frequent and reliable service connects passengers to all major leisure, retail and businesses along the 11 mile stretch of coastline. Heritage Tram Tours operate on Public and School Holidays, most weekends during Spring/Summer/Autumn and on special events. Heritage Day tickets are available that allow unlimited use of both heritage and modern trams plus Blackpool Transport buses. Heritage Trams stop only at the specially marked Heritage Tram Stops at Pleasure Beach, North Pier/Tower, Cabin, Bispham*, Cleveleys* and Fleetwood Ferry* (*special event days only). Blackpool has the oldest electric street tramway in the world with records dating back to 1884 when track plans were produced for an electric tramway that would connect North and South Shore. Blackpool Corporation paid for and maintained the infrastructure, whilst the Blackpool Electric Tramway Company, formed in January 1885 provided the electrical equipment, depot and tramcars. The tramway opened on the 29th September 1885. After the second world war, there was gradual consolidation and by 1962, the trams were confined to the 11 mile route from Starr Gate to Fleetwood which still operates today. The bus services expanded along with the town throughout the sixties, seventies and eighties. Since bus deregulation in 1986, the trams and buses have been operated by Blackpool Transport Services Ltd, a Blackpool Council Company. While the trams themselves are owned and run by Blackpool Transport, the tramway infrastructure is currently owned by Blackpool Council and leased to the Company, which pays an annual track rental fee for the privilege.

Visited Blackpool with friends for the Air Show, arrived Friday and booked into our hotel, catching the tram outside the hotel we bought the 3day ticket as it is fantastic value for money. Things started to go wrong again on Saturday dinner time as we returned from Fleetwood where we had spent the morning shopping. The tram became packed as we approached Clevleys and by the time we had left Clevleys the tram was packed, this is where Things go wrong, many people travel free because the conductor cannot get to collect fares but so much of a safety issue if the driver does an emergency stop many young children and elderly passengers are going to fall like a pack of cards. My question is how on earth can Blackpools so called premier transport system put so many people at risk of serious injury or worse. The driver has the ability from the cab to lock the doors at each end of the carriage leaving the two middle doors operating, put the two conductors that the trams should be carrying at known busy times at each door to control passengers on and off the tram, this happens time after time as soon as a large event meaning many extra people for the tram system the whole thing falls apart. I can only conclude as I have put in previous reviews that profit comes over passengers safety or Blackpool transport aren't bothered about there staff or passengers or those on high don't learn from there mistakes and are grossly incompetent.

Myself & my 7yr ASD som travelled on the trams today. My son is obsessed!!!
Trams where not overcrowded & where constantly monitored to ensure ensuring they didn’t get over crowded. I’d say 90% of people had masks on. Only downside is they where only every 20mins, so if you couldn’t get on it was long wait with children, going back to a 15min service or even 10min would be much better.
The trams where clean & staff friendly as always.

In previous years, our visits to see the lights were marred by difficulties parking in the evenings in Blackpool. As my husband is a wheelchair user, parking fairly close to the centre was important. This time we had a hotel on the front in Bispham and we just left the car at the hotel. All we had to do was cross the road to the tram stop and we never had long to wait until a tram arrived.
Our visit was on a Monday and Tuesday and three day passes were £11.50 each, such good value as we could get on and off as often as we wanted.
I'm always a little nervous using unfamiliar transport options with my husbands wheelchair. It is a powered one but normal wheelchair size. There are size restrictions on the trams so if you have a large scooter type chair then I would advise going on to the website and checking that yours will be acceptable.
All the conductors were super helpful in getting my husband onto the tram. Getting off at the right stop was easy as the next stop was announced inside the tram. When we saw the queues of cars trying to drive the promenade in the evening, we knew that the tram was the way to go. It is so easy.

My review is in regards to the Fish & Chips Tour.

We were looking forward to this trip so much.
However, Once we stepped foot onto the tram we had the worst experience ever. We were offered drinks but they had sold out of NON fizzy drinks so our option was water or fizz. I dont drink fizz as i dont like it and neither do my kids. Shame as we paid the same price as everyone els!

We were crammed into one place and could not even turn around! At this point we wondered how we would have room to eat our chips.

We finally had enough as the tram filled to the top with people! Seemed to me like the team were trying to get as much money out of this as possible! they did not care about the safety of their customers! With Covid on the rise AGAIN we opted out of the tram before it even left the station!
I was told i would have a refund by one of the staff inside the tram however Gary outside told me i was not entitled to a Refund!!
Funnily enough we have been sent a gift card of £25.00. We certainly wont be going!!

So be warned. If you dont mind being crammed into one place and catching Covid - take the trip..

We downloaded the app and purchased the 72 hour tickets giving access to both trams and buses. Great value for money and the app was excellent showing next departures from each stop.

The trams were very busy but it was illuminations switch on weekend so probably to be expected.

Visited Blackpool for a week from 10-17 August. Understandably Blackpool is not fully "up & running" due to covid. The trams were only running every 20 minutes as opposed to 10 which meant most of the time they were running full. We tried to get on a tram to go to Cleveleys and it was the 3rd tram before we could get on. The closest stop to where we were staying was Manchester Square and on a few occasions we got the tram south to cross over to get the tram to go north as we had more chance of getting on. We were on a tram one day and there was no social distancing whatsoever. People sitting in seats which were taped off. Please get back to running your regular service of every 10 minutes for everyone's safety. I understand everyone is trying their best in these unprecedented times and any other time we have been in Blackpool the transport service is second to none. Keep up the good work guys but please more trams are definitely needed.

We used the tram in Blackpool, because the traffic up and down the promenade was just heavy most of the time.

With our daughter in a wheel chair we thought oh no this is going to a troublesome experience, but forma change it wasn't.

The staff on board the tram were brilliant and helped us get the wheelchair on and off the tram.

Get a wheelchair on and off the tram was a joy the platform was dead level with the tram doors so no need tilt the wheelchair up to get on and off. It is so good our daughter was even able to wheel herself on and off unassisted.

The trams run every 12 mins which is brilliant , loads of people & trams was full . If you got on one it was standing room only , there should have had more carriages for the high demand . It took 3 attempts to get on a tram .Only a few people was wearing masks , & where signs saying keeping your distance people still sat by people who they did not know . It was Blackpool madness .

The trams were coming along to the stops saying tram Full. It stopped to let people off and loads more piled on. My husband got off his seat to allow an elderly lady to sit the tram continues to stop more people piled on resulting in my husband being squashed up against the door with one man literally right up against him. The man in question was sweating and only had his mask covering his mouth not his nose. The tram was so packed the conductor had to physically touch people to squeeze past. Absolutely no social distancing whatsoever the seats that were taped off people sat in them anyway and people pulling their masks down to talk to their friends. Not a great experience at all.
