We're starting to venture out a little further now for our exercise. Highfield Park is a great open space to wander around. It's always good to walk round the lake.
At this time of year there's a special treat and that's the rhododendrons in flower. Give it a go, it's a big enough park to be at a safe distance from other people.
We visited today with our two grandchildren. They enjoyed the mini golf and playing on the playground. It was a nice sunny day and the park got very busy. The cafe is still closed. Sadly there are no toilets anywhere so where people are going I do not know! We had to leave as the children needed the toilet. I do think the park should have better facilities now it is open.
Show more...Beautiful walk around the park. Kids area has a large play park, boats to hire on the lake and crazy golf.
We walked around the whole lake, takes about an hour at a slow walk. Plenty of quiet spots and areas to sit and enjoy the area.
There is a cafe and toilets on site. The menu looks nice and reasonably priced.
Will visit again and maybe grab some breakfast before we go out on the boats on the lake.
We hired a rowing boat for 3adults 1child £10 plus £3 deposit for 1 hour. First problem was the lake is about a good 13 inch lower than normal.so you have to risk serious injury. Just to get in the boat .it is even more difficult to get out again.then to my surprise I discover the boat I was given had seat with a block of wood for support under my rowing seat .that was about 4inc square.so that my seat for rowing was that high off the bottom of the boat.makeing it impossible to row the boat has the oars hit my lower leg which I could not move out the way.
Thus my complaint is the boats are unfit for purpose
And the lake should be shut and dredged it is disgusting .
We’ve been coming to Highfields for years but our last visit was a good while ago so we were quite surprised by our visit yesterday. Firstly, the tram lines now make it very difficult to get into the park - we had to drive a good way to the roundabout past the tennis centre and come back on ourselves - nicely thought-out, NCT/council!!
There is now a mini golf, which was fun but I think a little too pricey at £7 each (18 holes). 12+ years old are counted as adults. It was a good course though.
We then went for a snack/drink - there was very little available to eat (around 2pm) and the sandwiches and chocolate scone we had were horrible, the chocolate brownie was nice.
After the snack we went for a walk round the lake - still a nice walk despite all the work taking place but it’s much shorter than usual. As we walked past the boats my partner noticed that it’s now £15 for the boat - come on chaps, there’s no way it’s worth that!!! There were 2 boats on the lake but usually you have to wait for them coming back in - not yesterday. I’d say plenty of other people weren’t daft enough to pay it either!!
If we had gone on a boat, then taking the mini golf and food/drinks into consideration, the afternoon out at a park would have been around £46 - that’s ridiculous because while Highfields is a lovely place to spend a few hours, it isn’t worth that!!
Word of warning,Do not allow your kids or anyone who can't swim go on a boat at highfields park because the life jackets don't work,I know this because my daughter almost drowned
Show more...This is a small but perfectly formed park. There is a moderate size play park by the FREE car park and a decent patch of grass to play a bit of football on. There is also a cafe that serves cake, coffee and ice-creams with clean and well-kept toilets to use. The walk around the lake will take no longer than 30 minutes, 45 maybe with little ones. There are stepping stones at the end of the lake which children will find fun to cross and an island in the middle inhabited by squirrels which you can pass over. There are also boats for hire, but I've not had the desire to take one out as the lake looks a bit murky! Paths are all flat and therefore perfect for prams and wheelchairs. Highfields is a very enjoyable way to spend a couple of hours but you won't be there any longer than that.
Show more...Despite resumption of work after the Carillion debacle, the Park is still a mess. There are no railings and gates so small children can run out into the road and vandals can ride in; the flower beds are a sea of weeds; the two listed pavilions are sealed off; the public toilets are closed. Where has over £4million of heritage lottery money been spent? Who is in charge of this project and why did it take nearly 4 years to get started? Why does there appear to be no sense of urgency in getting it finished?
This project was supposed to restore the Park to its former glory but Jesse Boot is probably turning in his grave.
What has happened to Highfields ????
Highfields used to be a fantastic day out but now resembles an abandoned building site. It's been well over a year and what has been done with the lottery money ???
Yes they have built an overpriced second rate golf course that costs £11 for a senior and 6 year old child I think quite extortionate especially as it's still not finished with mud and puddles all around. I say second rate because whoever designed it forgot the drainage as it has to be closed due to flooding when it rains !!! The childs park is tired old and dangerous. The cafe starts closing at 4pm and where is the security ? 3 motorbikes came in the complex yesterday, driving on pedestrian areas, doing wheelies and racing around the complex. What a mess our beautiful Highfields is now.

Beautiful big park with lots to do. You have the lake, the adventure golf course and a kiddies play area. Very big and had a lot of groups but with enough space between everyone. Lots of dog walkers and cyclists. An ice cream van was parked there too. Next to the University of Nottingham. If you go on a busy day like we did, parking may be an issue. I definitely recommend this park.
