This imposing structure, built by the Knights of St. John in the early 15th century, is the most prominent feature of Bodrum.

The castle is beautiful and very well kept!
We're glad we visited whilst we were staying in gumbet.

However! We do not believe it was worth the £38 we paid for 4 adults and 2 children.

The toilet facilities were also not cleaned and looked like they hadn't been cleaned for some time.
A few very suspicious looking marks wiped across the back of the toilet door and stains all over the walls that looked like they had not been cleaned for quite some time!

Can they really warrant asking people to comply with covid guidelines or even charge the amount they are charging when they clearly have not deep cleaned the facilites since the pandemic?!

Take your time to explore this amazing relic. So much to see and great views of the city. We actually saw an open air opera/concert there at night. Pure magic. The castle has so much history and has audio guides in most languages well worth the money. A small cafe within the castle in grove of trees and lots of resting benches makes this more than just a history lesson.

The castle isn’t signposted very well and finding the entrance could be a bit tricky. Located on the harbour, next to some lovely cafes, it’s entrance is modern and new. With the Turkish Museum Kart entrance is included. Entrance fee is around 75TL otherwise. Good COVID 19 procedures are in place. We spent nearly two hours looking around this fortress and the underwater Museum. The information is written in Turkish and English. Discovering the ancient trade routes, wine merchants and the building of the castle is really interesting. A must visit in Bodrum.

Dont miss the glass museum.
It has an extra entrance fee but it houses the history of the very beginnings of underwater archeology. I am easily bored in museums but this has several fascinating videos about the group of people who began exploring the nearby wrecks.

It is a well-known landmark that is visited by many tourists. We were there ourselves, without a guide, we wanted to use the audio guide. But for this they demanded a passport, they were not in our hands. They did not accept the deposit in money. Had to do without an audio guide. This is very inconvenient for tourists.
The castle itself was a wonderful experience! I recommend to visit and feel the breath of centuries!

While visit to the castle is good wanted to share a bit about the area around. Bodrum has a different feel than the other Greek Islands in the region. You can feel the difference between Greece and Turkey!
Seems a lot of people come here for buying cheap (fake) brands and that's what you'd see in the market area. There are nice cafes & bars. Overall very touristy vibes and a good vacation destination.

It’s a fantastic piece of history. Going back to thousands years ago. Plenty to see and learn and experience. It is in very good condition which makes it even more valuable. I would recommend to visit afternoon or later in summer days because Bodrum town can be very hot in summertime.

The castle of St Peter is a place which I visit always when I am in Bodrum because it’s one of my favourites on the peninsula. I recommend to go there in the afternoon before the sun goes down. Then the atmosphere is best, especially if you are a photographer. The views of Bodrum and the glittering sea with all the boats can be overwhelming. Sometimes a lot of visitors hustle around, so you need to be patient if you want to take certain motives as photos. In any case there are a lot of romantic corners. - This time I paid 68 tl entrance fees for the castle and the underwater museum. Go there early enough because you might need two hours and more for your visit. Construction work has been going on in the castle for quite some time now. Two cranes might spoil your view

Really sad. the old museum, befoore their three year renovation was marvelous and affordable. Now it's nothing but a sprawling jigsaw puzzle with no maps to figure out where to go, no working toilets, very few handrails and large blocks to climb up, making it unsafe for more older visitors. They are now charging 500 TL/$18+ to enter, spend your money elsewhere as you can get a 7.5 hour boat ride with lunch, snacks, and swimming for that price.

Having visited many castles over the years this is one I was looking forward to and it didn't disappoint. Plenty of information and virtually all areas accessible (i.e. not closed off).
Good views from the top over Bodrum, as you would expect from a castle.
Go early or late as heat can be an issue in summer months. Air conditioning is in most internal rooms with exhibits.
