We had no idea what lay in store for us on a rainy March day in Bodrum when we spotted this place and decided to take a look. Our jaws hit the floor though as soon as we paid our 5 lira entrance fees and had to put on plastic covers over our shoes. Zeki Muren appears to gave been the Turkish Liberace and this museum is in his former home, a bit like Graceland is to Elvis. You wander around and are constantly surprised and amazed Did he really wear platform heels that high ? Yes he did, and his costumes were truly out there too. Zeki was loved by the Turkish people and when he died on stage of a heart attack, the entire nation mourned. This is a must see in Bodrum. Quite remarkable.
Show more...The museum (Zeki's former home)is in a nice part of Bodrum and worth visiting to see the home of a famous pop star at the time. Zeki created his own costumes which are really over the top and interesting to see. A cross between Elton John and Liberace. The museum plays his music - he had a fantastic voice and worth listening to.
Show more...I guess if you are not Turkish, you probably have never heard about Zeki Muren. He partly lived in Bodrum and was a famous singer in Turkey. At the end of his career his dressing style was very similar to Liberace and more cross gender, which surprisingly is not mentioned with one word in the Biography offered by the museum. He had a great voice and died on the stage, like every artist would love to. Besides that, the Museum is actually a house he lived and shows all the banality of life of us human beings. Nothing you have not seen at your neighbours, except the costumes, i guess. An amusing but strange visit. Some of the Turkish visitors are singing along the songs they play in the background. For a rainy day, quite amusing.
Show more...Zeki Müren is a legendary art performer. I didn't know how he was good at painting. His drawings and costumes are amazing. It is a nice home with a great view.
Show more...I would certainly like to have seen Liberace and Zeki Muren duel it out on stage, both fashion wise and musically
Show more...If you are Zeki Muren fans like us, this little museum is the cherry on the cake. Think Elvis and Liberace and the singer in the minaret and you *might* get a sense of the man: his feathers and glittery outfits, his carjust go!
Show more...Zeki Muren (born in Bursa, Turkey on 6 December 1931, died in İzmir on 24 September 1996) was famous for his compelling voice and precise articulation in his singing of both established Turkish classical music and contemporary songs. He used to live in this house when he was in Bodrum. He got hundreds of musical and art awards when he was alive. According to his testament house was converted into a museum. Rooms were kept originally and all his clothes, awards, records, pictures, and daily life items are displayed carefully. Although he was rich he lived a simple life. You can see it though his rooms. When you walk inside the rooms you hear his songs through the speakers located inside the house. His favorite American Car Nova was placed into his garden with a crane and kept originally for his visitors. You can see the car from outside but can not touch it.
Show more...We had never heard of Zeki Muren before but so pleased that we got to learn more of this Turkish Superstar. A visit to his home in Bodrum is a wonderful distraction when it’s too hot and you fancy doing something different. The house/ museum is located near the far end of the waterfront and on Zeki Muren Street. Inside is a treat! You get to see his house filled with costumes, awards and records. Some outfits were outrageous and you got a sense that Zeki loved drawing attention to himself. Overhead his music fills the house and you can’t help like it!
Definitely worth visiting. A gay icon and clearly someone living his life to the full.

The home of a much loved, very flamboyant singer, which is packed full of extravagant costumes, photos and memorabilia. It's quite a hike out of town and there's very little information in English. The small cafe is nice but there are no toilets for visitors.
