The Gainsborough Bath Spa

2628 Reviews

The Gainsborough Bath Spa is YTL's first Hotel in the UK. Paying homage to its colourful history, the hotel is designed by New York based Champalimaud Design to be welcoming, elegant, vibrant and social - a modern interpretation of a classic design. Our accommodation is inclusive of standard five star amenities. Each room and suite features a flat screen HD television, Roberts radio with Bluetooth, complimentary WiFi and radiant heated bathroom floors. Tapping into the original thermal springs, Spa Village Bath offers a contemporary perspective on the city's thermal water heritage. Coupled with the historic use of aromatherapy in Great Britain, this spa gently supports the brand's philosophy of honouring the healing traditions of the region.

The staff could not have done more. What a fantastic hotel. The room was comfortable and quiet. The only downside was the fact children cannot swim in the pool. The food in the restaurant was fantastic and the breakfast was wonderful. This hotel is a must stop off in Bath

My partner and I organised a couples spa package here which did not include a room. The package was well arranged with treatments and afternoon tea included. The treatment itself (full body massage) was top quality with professional, friendly and accommodating staff and great spa facilities. The pool and saunas & steam rooms were a great addition and changing room facilities couldn't be faulted. We couldn't get a booking at Thermae spa nearby so went with Gainsborough instead and would love to do again.

We cannot fault this hotel after our 2 night city break. Every inch of the hotel is spotlessly clean and maintained to a very high standard . All the staff we encountered were all polite, friendly, helpful and nothing was too much trouble as they genuinely wanted you to enjoy your stay. Our room was an executive room which was an upgrade to the deluxe one we had originally booked however the hotel had called a couple of days before arrrival to offer to upgrade for a nominal fee so we thought why not. Again all spotlessly clean and well looked after even though the buildings are listed. The spa facilities and gym are both well equipped with the spa being available exclusively to hotel guests at certain times of the day. Whilst we did not done at the brasserie we did have a very nice cocktail in the bar. Whole hearted recommend this as a hotel right in the middle of bath, close to all the main landmarks.

My wife and I were desperate for a short break somewhere, away from the kids and our desks. When we knew there was an opportunity to get away for a night we browsed all over the country for good spa deals. We only live two hours away from Bath but weren’t familiar with the Gainsborough. But it was available and it had a great deal so we decided to book it. From the moment we arrived until the time we left we had the most amazing experience. We started with some time in the spa and a couple of massages - which were amazing. We then walked out of the front door of the hotel to find hundreds of options to lunch. We spent the day strolling around the shops - which were all also on the doorstep of the hotel. We spent another, early evening, hour or two in the fitness centre and spa before heading back out for dinner. The bed was fantastic - we had a great night’s sleep. We left reasonably early the next day - but not before we’d had the amazing breakfast (that had been included in the price). My wife stated on the drive home it was the best hotel experience she’d ever had.

A very good hotel in an excellent location. Close to all major attractions. It’s also the only hotel in Bath city to have its own thermal pools and that was the main reason for booking it. I would have rated it 5 if it wasn’t for three issues: 1- access to the thermal pools was limited to 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the evening and at times which clashed with breakfast and dinner, so couldn’t enjoy the thermal pools fully unless skipping a meal or paying £70 pp to enter on top of the nightly rate. I suggest extending those times or offering a third session in the middle of the day. 2- check out at 11 was too early for a hotel of it’s caliber (other less costly hotels offer a 12pm check out as standard). 3- breakfast is an additional £25-£40 pp per day depending if it’s continental or full English. At least continental breakfast should be offered complimentary.

What a refreshing hotel. Not cheap as it’s Bath and a spa but worth every penny. Had a lovely 3 nights with my daughter to celebrate our birthdays. Staff very well trained and made us really welcome. Spa treatments were superb. Didn’t use the restaurant but it looked great! The twin room had 2 double beds and everything we could want with no laminated signs to be seen!

Brilliant location in the centre of the city so you can walk everywhere. The spa is a great bonus which you can visit early morning and during the evening if you are staying in the hotel. We visited at 8am on two occasions and whilst nice, it does get quite busy. We upgraded to an exec room although on reflection I’m not sure it was worth it. The room was fine but quite small and I think the only benefit is the mini bar is complimentary (beer and soft drinks). Our continental breakfast was included as we booked directly although anything cooked was an extortionate £40! All in all a good stay in a nice hotel - just not quite the ‘wow’ we were hoping for.

This is a lovely hotel and the pool is spectacular. They gave us a bottle of wine in our room. The water in the pool makes your skin feel really soft and there are various small rooms with different spa’s in and the water is lovely and warm. We really loved our stay.
