Roe Valley Arts & Cultural Centre

Small but comfortable venue, the show was excellent, and the staff very helpful and friendly. However, it was disappointing to find that they do not have a coffee shop or bar to have a pre-show beverage - think they're missing a trick hense the score of average.

This is on the main street of Limavady, in a modern-looking building with very colourful vertical pipes on the outside. It is between an older building with a clock, and an open plaza. I loved a mural opposite the entrance on a gable wall, a colourful character and her dog painted onto a furious pink background. Near the doorway is an old style ornamental fountain dated 1909 in memory of Samuel Stirling; the water had been turned off. By the door was a modern stone sculpture by Philip Flanaghan, with incised words from the song Danny Boy.

Inside is a reception desk that’s also the town’s visitor information centre. The staff were very helpful. The place has a toilet and a shop.

Downstairs was a wing with a display about a local songwriter. Upstairs were a variety of paintings, sculptures, community tapestries and other artworks. I fell in love with Andrea Spencer’s Bounty, a sculpture that had managed to include little flowers in recreations of sharks’ eggs and seaweed, entwined in a ring. Siuban Regan’s ceramic piece White Faced Rage Against the Machine I recreated some hooded urchins, improbably contained in a glass display case. Keith Sheppard’s Three Sided “Star Trek” Bowl, although at £645 it was a little bit pricey for me. Ani Mollereau’s Wren, of bronze and bog oak had great appeal. The building was impressively light and spacious. Entry was free.

RVACC is located in what was original council offices on a main thoroughfare in the town centre - there is short term 'on street' parking and a number of long term car parking close by. Various events take place here suitable for all ages including regularly changing exhibitions, talks and readings, creative learning events, films and music events. Always worth checking 'what's on' by calling in to the centre. Just across the road look for the 'blue plaque' on the house where Jane Ross noted down the tune being played by an itinerant fiddler which was eventually to become known as "The Londonderry Air" and more popularly today as "Danny Boy"

Lovely venue with unreserved seating. No bar but you can bring your own.

A reasonably priced evening in a fantastic venue with clean toilets.

Roe Valley Arts centre has wonderful gallery spaces for exhibitions, and Sara’s recent exhibition is a brilliant display of energy and texture.

This modern, well-lit, airy centre is full of interesting things, from art displays to tourist and arts events and activities. Anyone visiting Limavady for the first time should ensure that this place is on their list.
