This hotel is a con! We booked and paid for a room and they have cancelled because there is an event on! Absolutely appalling! Everyone is out to make money, but these have cancelled my booking because they wanted to make more money! Appalling service. Avoid this hotel like the plague

Had to make an emergency visit to the Citrus. Because Cardiff City council have become increasingly strained offering longstanding homeless people shelter after nearly 15 Years of life in all of there Citys! I made my booking using the Agoda / Vio app on Apple. The process was very easy and user friendly! It felt very personal and bespoke! When I arrived at the hotel check in was quick and personal! The Room was totally amazing and everything I had expected! Breakfast was tasty! I will miss this place being open even when I don’t make a booking! They offer stability and a sense of safety on the street! Hopefully they will open in 6 Months time stronger then ever but respectful of themselves and maintain the same level of service they always have done! The staff are very friendly and helpful! I would most definitely book a room with Citrus or whom ever they maybe come in the future! Cheers!

3 of us staying over night for a conference. We were given a room with 3 single beds, which was great. on entering the room it smelt musty and was extremely cold. Used the phone to call down to reception which they couldn’t hear me. So had to go down to reception. Was offered another room but was told that the only other room 3 of us could stay in was for a family, Receptionist came up to room to sort the heater which wasn’t on. And was told it would take up to 40 minutes to heat the room. We left the room to come back to find the heater goes out on leaving the room. After being so cold, we got into our nightwear socks jumpers etc etc to sleep in the extremely thin duvet’ed beds. hoping that the 30.c heat would heat the room. And at 1am decided to sleep, the room definitely didn’t get up to 30 that’s for sure. One of us showered in the morning, the shower didn’t run away and the bathroom floor ended up being flooded. Another trip down to reception for more towels to mop up the water, to be told that the maintenance man who wouldn’t be in until Monday (to fix the phone) wouldn’t be in until later that day so couldn’t sort the shower. (Which was extremely hard to turn off with wet hands) No apology came at all from the 2 members of staff on reception. But we were given the key to the family room to shower. But were then told we could shower and get dressed back in our room. (Didn’t really fancy walking through very cold corridors and down a few floors to my room in a towel that didn’t cover all of my body!) But we were very surprised to find the family room very warm and much more habitable. Which would have been a much more pleasant stay. We felt the 3bed room was possibly a room for staff or hardly ever used. As it was very very tired compared to the family room, with only 2 working plug sockets which were in awkward places. And not many of the light switches worked. The photos of the room look beautiful which were certainly not how the room looked at all.

AWFUL - Avoid avoid avoid We booked this hotel based on the pictures on booking.com which was perfect for a birthday ocassion and 2 nights away with friends and the benefit of parking on site. We couldn’t have been more wrong. We arrived at 3pm check in time were given our room keys. We went to our rooms so we could get changed and ready to go out for the evening we had booked. The room had a musty smell when we walked in to then see it there was spilt mouldy milk on the side and down the side. There was what looked like some kind of rodent droppings by the door. This was just the start. There was chicken nuggets and McDonald’s ketchup pack upside down opened and stuck to the carpet. There was snot and menstrual blood on the wall in the bathroom and hair in the bed. We went to reception to explain and they quickly apologised then moved us to another room without any fuss. We then went to the second room to find much the same. Poo stains in the toilet. Rubbish on the window sill. Dust and a bug in one of the beds. We went to go back to reception to explain our findings to realise the handle for the door was actually on the floor and we were stuck in the room and had to get friends to get us out. Massive fire hazard especially being on the 5th floor. We then went down and asked for a refund which wasn’t straight forward and now need to wait 12 days for and then fork out for a new hotel so we are £900 down for 2 nights. No apologies and completely unacceptable- would never recommend - avoid.

We stayed for a night to see a show at the Utilita, it was a perfect location right next door. The rooms themselves were great. Everything you need for a night. Ironing board, hairdryer and tea and coffee facilities. It had both a heater and a big fan as well as a small fridge. My only moan would be the pillows, there was only 1 per person and they were pretty flat. The bathroom was fine, and the shower was pretty powerful. Overall it was exactly what you’d need for a night or two! I would recommend

GOOD LOCATION IF YOU NEED TO BE CLOSE TO THE TRAIN STATION AND WITHIN A WALKABLE DISTANCE TO THE CASTLE; CHECK-IN STAFF NICE AND HELPFULL ROOM OF A GOOD SIZE AND COMFORTABLE BED. KEEP IN MIND THAT THERE IS NO RESTAURANT ON SITE (ONLY BREAKFAST) VIEW OF THE ROOM BLURRED BY SOME PLASTIC FILM PUT ON WINDOWS (TORN OUT PARTLY IN THE BATHROOM SO DO NOT EXPECT INTIMACY WHEN YOU ARE SITTING ON THE TOILETS) THE RIGHT KNOB SETTING THE WATER TEMPERATURE IN THE SHOWER WAS TOTALLY LOOSE SO COULD NOT CHANGE IT (QUITE HOT) THIS HOTEL NEEDS RENOVATION AND PLEASE! TAKE OFF THE CARPET IN THE CORRIDORS AND THE BEDROOM : IT HAS STAINS AND IS UN-HEALTHY!

Fantastic location for the Cardiff arena. Currently going through some refurbishments but didn’t impact or interrupt our stay. Staff friendly and helpful. Car park available but easily missed when driving as you have to turn up underneath the hotel and up a ramp. And first come, first serve on parking spaces which are limited. They allowed us to keep the car there for the morning so we were able to get breakfast the next day too.

Nice stay in the hotel. Kind and helpful staff. The hotel is well situated. Walking distance to the Cardiff city centre. We have stayed in a triple room and everything was brilliant in the room and its meet our expectations. It would be really nice if guests can open the rooms windows at least a little bit.

We had a terrible stay here! Rooms are stifling hot, like sleeping in a sauna! Windows do not open and our room with a view was a blurry one with sticky film on the window. On a boiling hot day, our room had all radiators on. Staff were fantastic in helping get us a fan but it wasn’t great and it didn’t help much in the heat. I do wonder how they air the room after each guest. We had a ripped pillowcase, damage to bathroom wall, stains on the carpet. We had a very restless nights sleep and felt like we had been robbed. £170 for a room that we could barely stay in. We dumped our bags for a quick change and left asap and then in the morning we packed up and left as soon as we could. Check in staff were amazing, check out staff were very dismissive of the heat and didn’t seem to care, she shrugged her shoulders and said “well it’s a hot time of year what do you expect” ummm… not this for £170!!! AIR CON NEEDED ASAP!
