The stunning new Museum of Liverpool is the world’s first national museum devoted to the history of a regional city, demonstrating Liverpool’s unique contribution to the world. This fantastic, free family day includes the stage where John Lennon and Paul McCartney first met, Ben Johnson’s Liverpool Cityscape, a life-size Liverbird, the first Ford Anglia from Ford’s Halewood production line and Chris Boardman’s famous Lotus sport bike. Don’t miss the 360º immersive films about football and The Beatles! We were visiting Liverpool for the first time and were greeted warmly on entering the museum by Andrew. He gave us a hint to start at the second floor which was what we did. We were lucky to visit on the last day to join the Old Dock tour which he suggested we try , this was so informative and well worth the £6.50 each . This museum was well worth a visit and we made the suggested donation , so glad we came and returned to complete our tour after the Old Dock tour as we had to go to the Maritime museum to join it. So much to see and really envious of the locals who have such a wealth of history on their doorstep. Thank you for a warm welcome and assistance in sorting out a venue for afternoon tea nearby.

Well, on one of the wettest coldest windyist day of the year it's The Museum of Liverpool to go too.
It's a place you and the kids could easily spend all day in. Loads for the kids to do, ages with us were 5 and 8, not to mention the marvelous historical exhibits for the oldies.
The museum is over 3 floors, lots of stairs, but well served by lifts for us wrinklies.
Cracking gift and souvenir shop and cafe, just a bit expensive I'm afraid, especially if you have little ones in tow. Cafe very bright and clean, spotless loos, but just rather expensive. We did decide to take a picnic next time, and pop for the kids.
Have to say though it's FREE to go in, yes we made a donation, so overall it's probably a faily cheap 4 hours.
Again, heaven knows where you would park, taxis, walking, buses are the way to travel in Liverpool.

We really enjoyed our visit, the blitz display was very good as was learning about the history of Liverpool.

To say the museum is free it’s such good value for money, there’s lots to see and booking a slot was really easy. With Covid they want you to book before hand , which is fair. Definitely a must see when you come to Liverpool. The views of the docks also are fantastic.

I had no idea about so much of Liverpool’s history so it was nice to have this lovely new modern building on the waterfront to browse around and find out! No idea about the overhead train cars, the rich Chinese culture there and just how extensive the docks are! So many things to see and do there it definitely more than fills a morning. Good prices in the shop too I got a lovely pair of gents driving gloves and my partner a really nice set of earrings. Not standard museum shop purchases! It’s free entry and the Beatles statue is just outside (and was probably busier lol) .. so I can recommend it

We were lucky as it was the first Sunday in the month and a live band was performing Liverpool songs and sea shanties in the foyer. This added an extra dimension of interest to our visit and seemed to appeal to visitors of all ages.
The museum was very comprehensive in telling th history of the city through the ages. It was well laid out and well signed.

Right on the waterfront, this museum is well worth visiting either for an hour or two or even a full day!

Exhibits well laid out with lots of information presented in various formats.

We particularly enjoyed the audio visual presentation on wartime Liverpool told by local residents from that time and the role of Liverpool and its people in the fight for proper housing and workers rights

Recommended without hesitationas with the whole of this fascinating and friendly city!

Well well, hard to put a comment on this one!

I haven’t visited for a few years now, coming in windy rainy weather was worth it of course, but I think this place needs major improvements.

Firstly, nice stunning building on the docks. Gift shop, cafe and ground floor area, amusing bit of entertainment.

However, viewing the gallery and different parts, I couldn’t believe how much there was to see, history of the city and Merseyside, ancient parts very interesting and different.
I think this museum has achieved a lot over the time, brilliant models and scenery.

Definitely worth the afternoon.

Biggest disappointment about the visit, tried to a decent coffee, very limited on choice for the hot food. I think the staff here need better training. As when we ordered, lady on till didn’t seem great on communication, definitely need to sort that out.

May be return soon

I'd wanted to visit the MoL for a number of years and it didn't disappoint. It tells the story of one of the UK's great cities from a social and cultural perspective and includes some fascinating exhibits. Highlights were Lion, the Liverpool Overhead Railway carriage, and the enormous detailed model of Lutyens' design for Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral that was never built

This is a modern museum and all the better for that. The exterior is a striking design on the waterfront and I was most impressed by the curving stairs that ‘spiralled’ their way from floor to floor in the centre of the building. Inside there are various groups of exhibits including a ‘timeline’ from prehistoric times to the present day which was most informative. I particularly enjoyed the industrial section on the ground floor showing the history of the river, docks, canals and overhead railway amongst other things. There was also an exhibit called “Liverpool on wheels” (until 1 November 2020) displaying all sorts of transport with local links such as bicycles, cars, commercial vehicles and many more. A great museum and well worth visiting.
