Green Tomb

This tomb, which is also the symbol of Bursa, is one of the most beautiful and unique samples of Ottoman tomb architecture. A lead dome perched on a high hoop covers the octagonal structure, which can be climbed via a marble stairway.

Adjacent to the Green Mosque, the mausoleum of Çelebi Mehmed is an octagonal building in vibrant blue/green. The entry iwan has sensational muqarnas, only exceeded by the ones of the mihrab inside.
Inside the sarcophagus of Mehmet is considered to be an architecture wonder of the Turkish period ; with its colorful (yellow, dark-blue, and white raised glazed) and intricately designed tiles it is unbelievably photogenic against the mihrab just next to it.
Mehmet is joined here by his family : 3 sons, 4 daughters and a wife.
It is a serene place where respect and silence are requested.

Built in 1421 by Ivaz Pasa in line with the request of Sultan Mehmet Çelebi, this historical artifact is decorated with marvelous Iznik tiles. It includes the tomb of Sultan Mehmet Çelebi himself and that of his 3 sons, 3 daugthers and his nanny. It has become the symbol of Bursa and is very very impressive both in terms of architecture and decoration.

The mausoleum of the Sultan Mehmed I (5th Ottoman sultan), this tomb stands opposite to Yesil Camii (Green Mosque). The hexagonal shaped architect has the graves of Sultan Mehmed I and almost all his family members except his wife. The tiles out side are in green & blue colour. The tomb stands erect at a higher place than the surrounding area. The place around the tomb has a small museum and some cafes. The area around the tomb and mosque is very well kept clean & tidy. The belediye (local government body) has placed a electronic touch screen outside the tomb informing about the major attractions in and around Bursa. Its a must visit place while visiting Bursa.

We went there just before sunset (around 8:30 in July) and it was still open and quite empty. You skip the crowd if you go at that time and can better feel the serene and lonely atmosphere of the tomb. After visiting the tomb, go the the Green Mosque right across the street and watch the gorgeous sunset from the courtyard of the mosque.

Another of the spiritual places to see when in Bursa. This city is full of places like this which tend to be grand architecture as well nice and easy to see around.

Its a must when you are in Bursa to visit this tomb. Lots of people trying to get in without lining up during my visit and i remember there is the only one entrance and its small, so rather squeezed up little bit.

It's one of the most colorful tombs i have ever visited. Take some photos and go out coz you cannot go further nearer and the place is small.

The green tomb of Yeşil Camii, was amazing. The architecture in tomb is something you have to experience whilst here. The whole compound with the mosque is amazing. Allow the Muathin (person who calls out prayer) to enchant you with the history of the mosque as well as the different calls to prayer. The tiles of the mosque are amazing and one can hardly believe that it was done such a long time ago.
