Built in the 14th century, this mosque is an excellent example of classical Ottoman architecture. Of special interest are the intricately carved wooden pulpit, and the three-tiered fountain.
Show more...The mosque was built by Bayezid I to celebrate the important victory over the crusader forces at Nicopolis. The mosque dates back to 1399, however it was possibly burned shortly after by Tamerlane, and it was heavily damaged in the 1800’s by a large earthquake. It was mostly reconstructed at that time, so the interior feels newer than some of the other mosques in Turkey.

I am not a religious man, but I sensed the spiritual importance of the place, together with some hundreds of worshippers.
Love this place. I did have too much expectations at the beginning since I thought this will be a typical mosque. However, it was an impressive place. If you like history, you will love it. This mosque is different than others. There is a nice pool at the center. This pool was lightened by a huge roof window. Every corner of this building has unique historical details. One side you can see real black cover from Kabe, and bunch of others. You will feel that you go back to centuries back. Love this place. One of must go places in my list

I stayed in Artiç Hotel just across Ulu Camii and the view from the 6th floor of the hotel is another amazing experience.
Located in the marketplace area, outside was bustling with peddlers , locales. Inside the mosque however was solemn. Architecture was splendid. Recognized as one of the most important site of worship in Islam. It is a must visit when you are in Bursa. Doesn’t matter if you a Muslim or not .

There are ablution area in the middle of the prayer hall. The mosque size is also quite big, and easy to reach especially for visitors around the Grand Bazaar & Osmangazi area.
