Museum is a too big word for this landmark. There are, in fact, about 3 small halls placed in Marmaris castle that house some not very spectacular exhibits: ceramics, fragments of statues, fragments of columns, coins, tombstones, jewelries. The access is included in the price of the entrance ticket to the castle, 27TL. Open daily 10:00-19:30.

The museum was opened in 1991 to the public. It has a nice garden and a small collection of historical artifacts from the Byzantine Empire and the Hellenistic State. A bit of a climb over cobblestones and sensible shoes are required. Do not recommend it for strollers or wheelchairs.

TIP As it has a commanding view of the harbour below, it's a great place to take photos.

Have been to Marmaris a few times before but this was the first time visiting the castle. Entry was 40 Lira (~£2) and well worth it. Multiple rooms showing parts of Turkey's history, lovely colourful gardens and really great views of Marmaris.

You wander up through the old town meaning you find little trinket shops, nice cafes etc on your way too. Would definitely recommend if you're looking for something to do. Probably takes around 45 mins.

This was worth a visit. The walk around the little side streets around the castle is pleasant and gives the opportunity for some lovely photos and you get an old world feel as you walk around. The Castle is cheap to enter, at only a few Lira, and gives a great vantage point for photographs of Marmaris. It also has the usual dislays of archaelogical finds and gives an insight into the history of the area and highlights some of the the other nearby ruins. It also offers a pleasant garden area inside to sit and also get some shade from the searing sun.

This place has an outstanding landscape, inside the castle the gardens are truly brilliant. The panoramic views of Marmaris bay are truly magnificent. You can also look down on the beautiful cobbled streets around the marina.

If you plan to visit this attraction in the main summer months (July / August), I'd recommend visiting this place in the morning when it's not as hot. As this place is a sun trap.

I have been going to Marmaris for 15 years and only took the time to walk up to the castle I can recommend it. The views of Marmaris bay are spectacular and there is lots of information in the castle museum.

Contrary to current trip advisor information, the castle is currently open.

The original castle in this location was built by the Ionians. The current building was constructed by the Ottoman Turks in 1522 and restored between 1980-90.

Immediately on entering the castle you are greeted by the gardens and a relaxing, cool atmosphere.

There are several areas of archaeological displays, both in the garden and in the surroundings display rooms.

Also included the rooms of the Garrison Commander, Ottoman Costumes and Footwear.

The castle walls offer delightful views over the harbour area and Marmaris Old Town.

The castle is open every day except Monday, between 0800 and 1200, then 1300 to 1800. Current admission fee is 3 Turkish Lira.

A few yards down the street from the castle is the Denizci Kultur Odasi (Sailor's Cultural House). This is well worth a visit, to watch young local children being taught nautical handicraft skills,

We have been to Marmaris 4 times but have never visited the old town and the castle but how fantastic it is. It costs 3 Lira each to go in and the views from the top are fabulous. We spent over an hour looking at the exhibitions and taking photos. The old town is just what you would expect, tiny little houses in narrow streets with so much character. We made our way up to the Panorama Restaurant which feels like the top of the world. I would highly recommend you visit this part of Marmaris as it is a step back in time.
