You can walk there from the old town water front. It is a beautiful photo opportunity of the whole of Fethiye and Calli's Beach. Fethiye Castle ruins are a great view when up the tombs too. Quite a few concrete steps up without guardrails so need to be careful. Small entrance fee to walk up to the top Tomb.
Show more...Well worth the day trip. It's not a full day but it is a good walk from the town centre. There is an admission fee but it's negligible. Nice piece of history, a good few steps to the top, and in the Turkish heat, could make it difficult for some. Good view at the top and an interesting historic sight to see.
Show more...every detail of stones will surprise you deeply.. even you can find a enormous tomb in the center of town near to post office. when you saw this tomb you will feel guilty about our simple funerals.
Show more...Well worth seeing. A wonderful bit of Lycian history and its pretty amazing that they've managed to survive all these years, including a major earthquake many years ago.
We were a little disappointed to see that some of the tombs have been defaced by graffiti. You'd think that the fee of 5TL per person should be enough to fund some restoration. Perhaps the civic authorities should put more effort into preserving an important historical site!
It's a reasonable walking distance but bear in mind that the terrain and heat might be an issue for the less fit and able-bodied. The stone steps have been polished by wear over the years and are pretty slippy.
Puzzled by some of the reviews as this should be about THE ROCK TOMBS AT FETHIYE.
Entrance fee is 5TL but thought it was worhwhile to get so close to this fascinating rock tomb. Long climb up the steps on a hot day but the views over Fethiye are worth it as well.
These amazing tombs are definitely worth the climb. The steps are actually quite gentle in gradient and there is plenty of room to step off the path onto the terraces if you need to catch your breath, rehydrate or simply to enjoy the emerging view of Fethiye. The views from the large tomb at the top of the steps are fantastic, and it is possible to get up close and personal with the other tombs by walking (sometimes scrambling!) along the terraces to the left of the main tomb, and inside the perimeter of the concrete fence to the right. Whilst the largest tomb has been defaced by graffiti, most of the others are marked only by the passage of time and benign neglect. I would urge you to pay the admission fee, which is less than a pound/euro at current exchange rates, and help preserve this marvel.
Show more...What a lovely port! We anchored right into the town with yachts everywhere around. Fethiye must be one of the best spots to visit in Turkey, it has lots in its favour. The rock tombs are easy walking from Info Ctre (where there's a masoluem behind), up slight incline towards 1st tomb for which one pays entry (I didn't) if guy manning there approaches you, you walk uphill towards major tomb. Return street, continue along to view other tombs cut into rock, fantastic!!! Fethiye has charm, a lot of tourist shops, yes, but also if you go EARLY IN THE SEASON it has peace and quiet (springtime best), sip Turkish coffee on waterfront & bargain price! Shops all open and keen for sales, this is BEST TIME. Heavenly reflections on water from boats, yachts, etc. Didn't go inland but certain wld. satisfy most discriminating tourist (such as I) who's travelled over 100 countries. Fethiye has long been a destination, I did it on cruise ship, well worthwhile!!
Show more...We saw both the rock tombs at Demre (actually Myra) and at Fethiye. Both were magical places to visit-particularly at sunset when they take on a reddish golden glow. Having a car makes it so much easier to visit. Contrary to what others have said it is not easy to find the tombs in Fethiye. Fodor's had incorrect information about their location. We had trouble locating them. We finally found Turkish only speaking women. We were able to understand their gestures and finally found the tombs at sunset. I would recommend taking pictures from lower down and then slowly moving up to get a closer look. While we did pay the very modest fee to access the Tomb of Amyntas (carved itno the sheer rock face around 350 B.C ), we didn't actually enter the tomb. Other smaller tombs lie nearby. We had supper at the King's Restaurant across the street. What an incredible location. After sunset , the Tomb of Amyntas is illuminated, but not the others.

Lycian Tombs can be found amongst many ruins and along the 500 kilometre Lycian Way. The house tomb and others at Tlos are spectacular and for a few lire you can wander in and around numerous tombs. Recent excavation has uncovered an unknown tomb from which some treasures have been removed. You can only peer into the interior through a protective fence. The copies of domestic houses have carved doors, beam ends, piched roofs and lintels. Many are single storey but exquisitely carved three storey buildings can be seen at some sites.Tombs at Myra dotter the cliffs and faint painted adornments can be seen on some interiors.
One of the most remarkable tombs, the Nereid Monument from the fourth century BC, can be seen in the British Museum.

Just an average accent cemetery. There are many similar points of interest around Turkey. In some places the cemetery is preserved together with the town. Here you will climb quite a lot, so see the view and see a tomb with not much information about the place and origin of this cemetery.
