Show more...Just spent two nights here with a young family. Colourful, clean, quirky; loved the communal bar area. As much great coffee as you want; good breakfasts. Location also a pleasant surprise - 10/15 mins on the bus from Elephant & Castle; loads of excellent food options in the area. All-round good value, esp. when compared with competitors. Minor negatives: heavy doors bang a bit; some reception staff a bit glum. Otherwise, brilliant. Have already re-booked.
Show more...This hotel is Lovely and the rooms are incredible with the Mexican vibe. Only reason I've giving it a 3 star is these little issues that make the difference. 1. The honestly bar is a great idea but the prices are just greed on the hotels part. 2. I only met one receptionist (female) that seemed to enjoy her job and actually asked how our day was ect. Tho all housekeeping staff were so nice and friendly everytime we seen them. 3. Night shift couldn't be seen on any of the 5 night's I stayed. A group gathered outside below our room for hours shouting and screaming in the middle of the night and there was nobody that could be found to move them on. 4. The £50 deposit when checking in is just alot and It can take up to 10 days for this to be put back into your account. 5. I had some coffee stains on my bed and my shower curtain was just full of pink stains when I checked in.
Show more...Well worth a stay in their themed rooms. Friendly helpful staff. Recommended for the locality where there a good restaurants to eat out. Helpful too with the parking. Breakfast included was good too.
Show more...I arrived at 9pm after a long journey. I was surprised to find that I had to give a £50 damage deposit, which isn't exactly usual. I then found that my room door did not lock. It was fixed withing 30 minutes by a member of staff who was called in from off site, who said this happened occasionally, because the doors are so heavy they bang shut and it can cause a problem with the lock spring. The bed was comfortable enough, although the pillows were more like cushions (as has been said in some other reviews). I found the en-suite bathroom clean and well-stocked with towels and toiletries. No tea and coffee-making facilities in the room - there's a lounge with free tea somewhere but I was too tired to go and find it. The big problem is with the heavy doors. My room was between a shared bathroom and the two rooms sharing it, so there were doors banging loudly until midnight, and then again from 6am. The second night I was there, it happened again - this time until almost 1am, and starting again at 6am. The noise was so loud, there was absolutely no way to sleep until through it. This was a business trip so all I really wanted was a clean and quiet-ish place to sleep and I didn't get that. If I had been staying another night, I'd have asked to switch rooms or found another place to stay.
Show more...Booked an ensuite room, was assured I would have a shower, I did but NO hot water. Had to use the communal bathroom on another floor. Yes there was a flat screen tv in the room, unfortunately it also didn't work. I had an important interview the next day and all the stress this caused had an adverse effect. Wouldn't recommend this hotel to my worst enemy.
Show more...Always stay here when up for hospital appointments. Always friendly welcome, clean, quirky and good sized rooms. Amazing bonus this time was air con in the September heatwave. It was soo good. Left refreshed in the morning. Loads of decent places to eat out near-by as well.
Show more...Stayed at Church Street Hotel for 4 days in late June. The staff was great, as was the breakfast. However, there is a safety issue with some of the rooms with shower/bathtub combinations. I slipped while taking a shower, landed on the tile floor out of the tub, and split the top of my head open. This happened because the shower/bathtub is not safe. There was no slip-free mat in the middle of the tub, and no grab rails within reach. This resulted in a 7 hour visit to the hospital's emergency room. Management was alerted to the incident on the day it happened, a Saturday. On Monday I spoke directly to the manager who assured me that she 'would take care of me'. I assumed that meant some some sort of monetary remuneration. That is, compensation for missing my daughter's graduation festivities, which is the reason for being there in the first place, and for 3 uncomfortable nights. Was offered a 10% discount on my next visit, but there will be no next visit. This happened about a month ago, and am still waiting. The manager told me she would do a complete investigation and share the results with me. She did, but declined to accept any liability or responsibility. I felt the investigation was incorrect/incomplete, and I sent a rebuttal. Still no response. I would not recommend this hotel because the promise that the manager made to 'take care of me' was not kept. More importantly, the shower/bathtub is not safe. Anyone who stays at this hotel and is given a room with this shower/bathtub combination is not safe. My faith in the hotel's management to do the right thing is disappointing at best.
Show more...Arrived to a lovely warm welcome and stayed 3 nights in this wonderful old pub and hotel. Our lovely room was very clean, spacious and quiet. We enjoyed local fizz and a delicious meal on the first night. Breakfast options a bit different and a tasty start to the day. We would stay again and recommend.
Show more...100% delight, 4 night stay. Friendly, obliging reception staff who provided good bus info and wonderful assistance and support after I left my Visa card in cab machine! Very professionally operated. A highlight for my last stop on Scotlsnd and London junket, exceeded my expectations, room larger than appeared online. Very good value for London! Nearby direct busses to Tower Bridge (12), Westminster and Trafalgar etc. (45), London Bridge Station (35) for train to Gatwick. Enjoyed Mexican theme and occasional opportunity to speak Spanish. Loved my blue room (15) overlooking leisure centre at back, quiet, fresh air, dresser, sink, TV. Enjoyed using fan, for white noise to aid sleep..Comfy, squeaky-clean"shared" bathroom a few meters away, not sure anyone else was using it, soft towels, lovely products. Room was cleaned and towels replaced after 2 days. **Loved** the upscale breakfast, oink oink (NB: included if you book directly with hotel,) excellent coffee. Havana (common/breakfast/bar) Room, a home away from home, often empty during the day. Very good security, no walkins, you get a code. Carpeted stairs throughout. Whole vibe is progressive, welcoming, relaxing, alternative in the best way. Down to earth real neighbourhood a nice balance after day of sightseeing. Had Chinese buffet £10, Woodfired pizza w nice salad, and excellent Bits n Chips £7 from nearby chippie, which I ate in the Green and watched the world.. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat! (I'm 75). *Lots of stairs: Specify lower room if stairs a challenge. Room overhead light insufficient for reading: a bedside clip on lamp would be ideal addition.

Found this hotel due to its location. What a great find. From when we arrived pre check. We were met with the Receptionist, Mosun. She was cheery and very friendly. This set the tone for the hotel. We arrived early, but Mosun said our room was available and were allowed to get access. This was at 8am in the morning. Great start. It allowed us to drop the cases and head out for the day. Our room was up a maze of stairs. We took the RED stairs which took us right to our door. The bed was huge and comfortable. The room was clean and even had a DVD player. In the breakfast area was a massive library of DVD's to be used. Breakfast was continental, cereal, eggs, breads pastries. Everything was fresh and unlimited. Loved the wee pots of yoghurt which I drizzled in honey and crushed walnuts. On the table was jams, honey, marmalade and walnuts. Within a minutes walk outside the hotel was a bus stop which allowed easy access to the City. Did I like this hotel? DEFINITELY Would I stay again? DEFINITELY The hotel is far out not to be too busy but close enough to still use as a base to explore London.
