An imaginative play space dedicated to sharing the delights of reading with young children and their families, The Reader Storybarn exists to spark a life-long love of books and reading, and an unending curiosity to explore the astonishing worlds of our imaginations.
Show more...Thus has to be one of my favourite places that I have discovered for my little ones! Situated in Calderstones Park, it is an adventure land inside and out for small children and I can't recommend it highly enough. The sessions are well balanced with free play, music, reading and craft with children able to take home their crafts and sometimes even books after sessions. The staff in there have a wonderful approach to the children and made us all so welcome on our first visit. They keep the children fully engaged and well worth a day out if you take a picnic to the park afterwards!
Show more...Our visit to The Storybarn didn’t get off to a great start. I had pre purchased tickets online and the email reservation for the tickets states you need to arrive 5-10 mins before the start of your session and check in at the ice cream parlour on arrival. We arrived and due to the hot day every man and his dog was lined up for the ice cream parlour. There was no separation between the lines for ice creams or The Storybarn. We waited in line for 20 minutes in the hot sun and were by then running late for our session. When I got to the front of the line I was told you only need to go to the ice cream parlour to purchase the tickets, otherwise you go straight through to The Storybarn building. The emailed instructions with pre purchased tickets need to be revised and updated.
The Storyhunters session was fantastic. An experience limited only by your imagination, which was perfect for my 4 year old. The hour flew by and she has already asked if we can return.
We attended the Liverpool one treasure island today.
Cost me £13.50 for my 3 year old to play in a small sand pit and have 2 short books read to him.
Yes my son loved It, he's 3 and very easily entertained . He loves books and has a great imagination which is why I went here.
The problem is you pay per person, I went with my 3 year old son and 15 year old neice so it cost me and my niece £9.00 Just to be there to supervise my son.
The whole thing lasted 45 minutes from the start of the introduction til the end.
I was so disappointed but maybe i just expected more for the money that it cost for a 45 minute thing.(£13.50)
Took little one aged 5 here for a couple of hours.
Think its mainly aimed at children under 4, little one enjoyed it as plenty of space to run around. We found it quite boring.. would not recommend to children over 5.
As a family with three young children we have been on every type of 'family day out' - From zoos, farms, theatre shows, soft play, we've done it all! This is by far the best day out we've had as a family.
It is a great place for children to really use their imagination. They are encouraged to think, explore and create. The children became part of the story, giving their imput and ideas. The Story hunt took place inside and outside. There was also a little outdoor area with a slide and lots of activities for them to play with.
The actors were brilliant with the kids, they were funny and let the kids shout out and join in if any children had something to say. The Story moved around the barn, before the children had a chance to get bored they would be whisked into another part of the building for something new.
The kids were so happy that they were able to choose a free book from one of the story trees at the end of the adventure.
My children are aged 8 and aged 3 twins. All of them thoroughly enjoyed the day out and we had some tears when it was time to leave.
I would completely recommend this as a family day out. It was only £4 each. £20 for a day out is a fraction of the price we normally would pay for a weekend activity.
We attended the Bear Hunt at Liverpool One a few months back so I knew this would be a good day, it was better than I expected and I will be taking the children again!
This place is amazing. The team here constantly changing and improving their service and sessions even when you think it can't get any better
Perfect 👍
I love it here I've taken my two year old niece a few times, the staff are fantastic, children can join in or amuse themselves. My niece loves the balloon and the dressing up box. Although she's only two she loves the craft area.

Visited yesterday as a family of four with Lily (3) and Daisy (18m). From the moment we walked through the doors we were greeted by very helpful staff who instantly engaged with both of my daughter's. Sarah was brilliant, as was Connor (I think).
We had to book tickets and come back later, but that was our own decision not to book online due to traffic problems in Wirral - I would definitely recommend booking ahead to avoid disappointment.
The exhibit itself is great, as your "storyhunter" leads you through 45 minutes of exploration and storytelling inside the imagination of Michael Rosen.
A lot of Michael Rosen's catalogue is probably more suited to children of school age (similar to Roald Dahl) but the setup here meant that there was still plenty to capture Lily's attention. Perfectly paced and just the right length of activity.
I will definitely be investigating more of what The Storybarn had to offer.
We visited this morning and loved every minute. My son and daughter loved exploring and letting their imaginations run wild. The craft area was a great hit too. All the staff were brilliant and their enthusiasm truly makes the visit. Afterwards a trip to the ice cream parlour rounded off a perfect morning out. Thanks x

We did the story hunt and the children had a lovely time lots to find and
Show more...Look at. The clues are not too long winded so it keeps there interest and it is really good value for money, you get a cope of the book to take home. The staff are really helpful and friendly and chat to the children and take their time to explain the hunt then really listen to them when you have finished the hunt.
