Welcome to The Grand, York's first and only AA five-star rated hotel. This stunning hotel opened in May 2010 following the extensive refurbishment of the former North Eastern Railway headquarters – one of York’s most iconic Edwardian buildings. Originally constructed in 1906 as a ‘Palace of Business’ for what was then one of the most powerful public companies in the country, today it is the region’s leading luxury hotel and has established a global reputation for its first-class service, stylish bedrooms and unique historic atmosphere. Following a £15 million refurbishment in 2017, The Grand now boasts 207 individually designed bedrooms, a beautiful spa to relax, a destination restaurant, a cocktail bar and meeting & event spaces. There is something for everybody to enjoy - we look forward to welcoming you soon!
Show more...A real taste of luxury in a historic building ideally situated in centre of York. Rooms were big and very luxurious.Only minor point is that room ws not cleaned without asking after first night - probably just a mistake but on asking was cleaned later.Good breakfast.Staff friendly. Bar was very luxurious and busy even though prices of drinks were a bit expensive
Show more...All the staff were very friendly, efficient and effective. You could have a great time staying in the hotel, enjoying the bar, restaurant, spa, and excellent rooms… or it’s very easy to get to the heart of the action in York. The room was comfortable and spacious, and close enough to the spa. The spa has to be booked, which avoids overcrowding. There is a decent pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi. Treatments may also be booked. All very civilised. This wasn’t our first visit, and we will very likely return. It may not be the cheapest of hotels, but it is a destination in its own right.
Show more...Awesome hotel with an ideal location. Walkable from both the train station and to the city center. Perfect way to start off our England vacation. Rooms are pretty big and the bathroom's heated floors were a nice touch. Breakfast here is lovely, with a wide selection in a beautiful setting. The hotel is housed in a former train station, so on the ground floor at least, you will find yourself winding your way down twisty hallways and short sets of stairs to get to your room. Despite being on the ground level it was relatively quiet and I was able to get a peaceful night's sleep. Hotel staff is friendly and always willing to offer a hand. Definitely somewhere I would return on my next trip to York.
Show more...I visited yesterday with my mum for an afternoon tea for her birthday. From the minute we arrived to be greeted by the doormen we really felt that we had a 5 star service. Every single member of staff made us feel so welcome and relaxed. The afternoon tea was very generous and delicious, it was one of the most beautiful afternoon teas I have ever had. The staff are so efficient but you never feel like they are in way. There was a birthday card on the table waiting for my mum, these little touches made it such a special afternoon. A beautiful building with lovely decor. Great quality food and drinks. Definitely the 5 star service we had hoped for! We can’t wait for another excuse to return!
Show more...Honeymoon 2 nights - Superb - short walk away from the train station, conceirege taking our bags, lovely receptionists. Double bedroom beautiful. Requested extra milk and tea from reception staffgot to our room quicker than we did!! it is rather grand for all the right reasons, making customers feel special attentiveness and detail, without being overwhelmed. Spa was beautiful. we didnt do extras such as food etc, due to my illness (didnt want to spend alot of money when i was unable to correctly apprecaite it) I unfortunately had a bad episode of my illness as im due an operation. I was offered a wheelchair. Staff were very respectful based on watching me walk. Taxis Ordered - venues that I could go to with a downstairs loo, and the things we love music venues etc, there advice was amazing. Nothing was too much for the hotel. will definately return and have a proper honeymoon experience with them.
Show more...A welcome return to this lovely building in the centre of York - great service from the whole team - bed so so comfortable!! Bar food very good - comfortable place to eat and drink with attentive staff. Although this priced at the upper end of York prices the service was worth it
Show more...What a beautiful and majestic hotel. From the minute we stepped through the imposing door we were treated like royalty. The bedroom was large and had more than a touch of luxury, which you would expect from a 5 star hotel. The bed was so comfy. The bathroom was lovely. Underfloor heating was appreciated. It was my sister's birthday and they left a lovely card and chocolates, plus she got a free cocktail. The concierge went above and beyond t help us. The spa was really nice. We loved the pool and jacuzzi. The only downside was the breakfast. At £25 we expected full table service. However unless you ordered from the special menu, the hot breakfast was self service and the food was lukewarm. You also had to make your own toast. We look forward to staying at The Grand in the future and thank you for making us feel like royalty.
Show more...We stayed just for one night at The Grand on 3 March 2024 whilst in York for a theatre show. We have stayed here before. We always love the place and this was no exception. Our room was in the newer annex and was very spacious and spotlessly clean. The bed was huge and so comfortable Had a great night’s sleep We do try to visit York fairly regularly as we love the City and The Grand will always be our first choice. OK it’s a little more expensive but you can see what you’re paying for. Highly recommended
Show more...We had a wonderful long weekend for my mums 85th birthday. Doormen were wonderful, staff at reception and our rooms were lovely! We had afternoon tea on the Sunday, this was quite disappointing though, the staff were a little, sorry to say but snooty, and everything was so slow and delayed, we asked a few times for little things and it was such a chore! For £150 for four the selection was also ok. Other than that absolutely gorgeous, gorgeous hotel, so close to the centre and rooms were luxurious. Everyone on reception was amazing and super helpful! They couldn’t do more for us 🙂

Ok ... It's expensive ... but it's jolly good. From the liveried doorman through to the wonderful housekeeping, everything in this hotel is close to perfect. Rooms are large and well-equipped, the sleep quality is great, and the breakfast is to die for. Just 5 minutes walk from the station and 10 minutes to the Minster the location is perfect too ... and ... it's above the flood line!!
