Galtres Lodge Hotel

We stayed for 2 nights this week. I had previously been for lunch and thought the location , friendliness of staff, and I overall feel was excellent, so when I came to stay, I didn't hesitate to book. I stayed with my daughter, so I booked a twin room. It was at the top of 3 flights of stairs and at the front of the hotel. The room was cosy and compact using every available nook and cranny . The room seemed bigger due to the high beamed ceiling, which was good , small but with everything we needed. Toiletries , hairdryer , tea, coffee, etc. The room was a little noisy overnight due to the main thoroughfare, but the location made up for It. Breakfast and the restaurant staff were both excellent , we also ate in the evening and th e food was superb. Good selection of wines and cocktails and a lovely boozy hot chocolate I took back upstairs. I wouldn't hesitate to stay again , we loved it x

A warm welcome and and amazing stay at Galtres Lodge. Booked the ‘Romantic Room’ on the top floor with a roll top copper bath. Was not disappointed, lovely room , perfect for couples, situated in the heart of York. Great breakfast in the morning. Very happy to stay and recommend to others.

Absolutely beautiful place to stay in a central location. We were in the romantic room and it was so lovely and cosy, it also had a little view of York Minster. Breakfast was included and was delicious and fresh. We also shared the stargrazing menu in the garden - would absolutely recommend this for a cute date night. Staff were also super friendly and attentive. All in all a fabulous experience and great value for money. Thank you so much - we’ll be back!

The hotel is in the central of york , the decoration of the building and the room style is like old British style. The bed a bit small for 2 person.Staffs are friendly and helpful and can walk to many places in lovely town.it was nice to visit during christmas as there are christmas market.

We loved this historical hotel, fantastic central location, nice decor, amazing original features and welcoming staff. Breakfast was good too! How wonderful to wake up on a Sunday morning, open the window and hear the Minster bells ringing. The only reason 4 not 5 is that, as the owners state in the welcome book, it is a work in progress since they took it over and some of the paintwork was not exactly great and there were bits of plaster that needs attention but I have no doubt that in a year or two that will all be ironed out and it doesn’t detract from the stay. Loved it and will recommend

From the amazing staff who assisted me moving my booking date, to the old world charm of this amazing building, with exposed beams and quirky layout. We love it here. We stayed in room 12 this time, again with exposed beams, it's right on the top floor so be careful if stairs are an issue as there is no lift. Our loft window overlooked the Chrisfmassy street below, with the festive live music playing in the daytime from the various buskers, it's truly magical.

Stunning & quirky small hotel, in THE best location in York. The Forest restaurant is so beautifully decorated & the food is simply delicious. Staff are helpful, courteous & considerate, especially of my mobility limitations. Will definitely recommend & visit again in the future. Thank you!!

Recently spent a couple of days in York for the Christmas Market and stayed overnight. Really enjoyed our stay in room 5 above reception at front of hotel. We went to drop our case off around 11.30am and the room was actually ready. It was a lovely room with en suite, very comfortable bed, nicely decorated. Not a lot of storage but we didn’t need much. Had a great breakfast in their Forest restaurant. I had Gardeners breakfast and hubby had full Yorkshire breakfast. We were able to leave our case until the evening so we could walk round and collect it on the way to train station which is about 15 min walk away. It’s in a great central location but I was woken by refuse collection of glass about 6.30am which can’t be helped but very noisy. Lovely hotel and staff

An absolute gem of a place, right in the centre of York, the building is full of character, spotless, comfy bed, delicious breakfast and really friendly staff, we enjoyed our stay so much we have booked again for our next visit to York

I will never stay at this hotel again, the place is in need of a complete refurbishment of decoration and fittings urgently. Walls were marked and dirty, the carpet on the landing had a large stain on it. The window in my room had a cracked pane, and the shower screen was loose and dirty, the room was dreary and in need of refurbishment. There was loud noise from the guests above until 1am on our first night there, I would have complained at that time but there was no one on reception, there never was. I did not stay for my final night booking as I was desperate to leave, I did complain on leaving but no manager was on site and I am waiting for them to contact me regarding what was a dreadful experience for me and my wife who was celebrating her birthday. I am annoyed and disgusted with the whole experience.
